Throwing rolls and wine bottles in dining room

Recommended Posts

As far as shorts in the dining room - since we dont know the reason behind such things there really isnt a reason why we should jump to conclusions. On our Voyager cruise 6 people never received their luggage. (we got notes in our cabins asking if we got the wrong luggage blah blah blah)
Also on another cruise the honeymooning couple that had the cabin next to us.... didnt grab the suitcase with all their night attire..left it home sittin gon the furniture. So you see. there is a reason for things that happen.

I was on the Viking Serenade in September 1999. I took my 18 yr old son and his 19 yr old friend. Formal night I made them wear a shirt and tie and leave the base ball caps in the room. We talked about what silverware to use and how to act like gentlemen. There was a large crowd present in the dining room with us. Two large tables that knew each other and were ready to enjoy themselves. A young women brought her whip and a male blow up doll to the table. The people were drinking shots and the lady would place the glass between her breast and men would do the shot. There was more than one man sampling the shots. She played with her doll all night. My boys didn't mine. They had a good laugh, but I felt like a fool. I should of told the boys to just have fun. Royal Caribbean did not discourage this behavior. I think they were more interested in selling these people shots than keeping me happy. Carla

Pattiemax: I was on the same sailing on the Enchantment and did not hear or see this incident. Was this on the late seating? (We had Main seating). Also, I did not notice shorts in the dining room at dinner but would not be surprised. Our table was on the lower level right in front of the grand piano, and we were always involved with eating or talking to our tablemates and didn't pay attention to other passengers in the dining room. One thing that did annoy us though - one couple at our table continually showed up very late for dinner. One night it was while the rest of us were eating dessert. Our waiter was so busy serving them, he couldn't sing or parade with the rest of the wait staff. We asked the maitre'd why these people were let in the dining room so late. The answer was: "There is nothing we can do". Anyway, I wonder if the group you saw behaving like this were the 25 "bachelors" (ages 25 - 35) who had posted on this board that everyone cruising with them should look out cause they were coming and would be "rocking the boat". Money has nothing to do with class and behavior. nor does dress. I will always abide by the dress code when cruising, However i have seen some(upper crust) dressed rather poorly.

I also have to ask "what is the greyhound class of people"

I grew up middle class or possibly below. However I was raised in a military family. I have been around the world and back again. I was taught to be be prideful and respectful to myself and others.

so please dont judge books by their cover.

the behavior was down right wrong. and would'nt some of us have a foot in out mouths right now to find out that these "boys" just may have been lil rich kids with no respect for authority????? never know just a thought.

We were on Explorer last December and a family got in a fight with a family. We didn't see it. They were put in there rooms and escorted off the ships at the next port.RCCL does have limits. We always do the suggested dress. I see no problems with well behaved children sitting in the front row. They are short! If you don't think children should be there, maybe you shouldn't. My suggestion-book a different cruiseline, as RCCL very much caters to families, or book second seating.

I ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY DISAGREE WITH THIS COMMENT!

I have an ex-husband who had the most wonderful, caring, loving mother and father -- and he is -- an abusive drug addict...no reflection of his mother or father.

Parents should not be blamed for their children's actions once they reach legal age...

On our 3/7 Mariner cruise the table next to us were very strange. Showing off porno pictures of themselves to anyone who would look (I didn't) but they even propositioned the waiter ( a very nice girl) who was horrified.
Don't EVER confuse money with class.

This topic has appeared several times on the boards over time. It is one that raises blood pressures, invokes tirades of comments (pro and con); but in the end we can only vent about it and rarely expect any change.

In today's society actors, musicians, and atheletes who flaunt their indifference to the mores and values are the ones who are vaulted into the front pages of tabloids and magazines.
They become the role models for our children.
Because they are rich and famous, then their behavior "must be not only acceptable but the role to emulate"! Usually they are most likely ill-prepared to follow any rules of etiquette because they were never exposed to such prior to their stardom and their behavior is a front to their ignorance or a boorish, flagrant attempt to flaunt their new wealth.

Unfortunately, not only does this behavior affect those around them onboard the ship, it affects the service that is given. When the passengers dress like they are going to McDonalds for dinner, and act like unchaperoned high schoolers, why should the quality of the food and service be expected to be any better?

I've raised four sons and like another poster, taught them manners and social skills; only to have some loud, obnoxious, ball cap wearing slob appear at the next table over. I really believe that their behavior and dress is their subtle attempt to hide their insecurity in an unfamiliar environment.

So, I guess my meandering point is that we can complain and vent; but it will not go away. Cruising is no longer for the wealthy. With that comes the group that are there to exhibit their lack of social skills and boorishness to the maximum effort. After all, they have "paid good money for this cruise" and will damn sure make sure everyone knows it. Their dress code and behavior will not change and those with social skills will not confront them about their ignorance of culture and class.
