Pre-Cruise Hotel - Los Angeles

We are considering a December cruise on the Mariner.

Will be arriving a day early (around noon).

How far away is the cruise port from the airport.

Is it best to stay close to the airport or closer to the port.

Thanks

By the Airport, I assume you mean LAX (there are several airports that serve the LA area)...

LAX is approximately 20 miles from the port.

I assume with only getting there noon the day before, you are not looking for sightseeing, rather just a relaxing afternoon, a nice dinner and a good night's sleep...

My recommendation is to get a taxi or shuttle directly to San Pedro and stay at either the Crowne Plaza or the Doubletree...You have time to get there, check in to the hotel, have a walk around the waterfront area, catch a nice dinner at San Pedro Brewing Company, Acapulco, 22nd Street Landing, JTrani's, Nico's or one of the other local eateries, get a good night's sleep and sleep in a little in the morning, then catch the hote's free shuttle to the pier in the morning.

I do not recommend the LAX area--not much there at all...

good luck...

I would agree with Steve. You'll just end up wanting to get away from the LAX area to eat or maybe to even see a bit of Los Angeles. That would mean taxis. If you stay in San Pedro, there are restaurants within walking distance to those hotels Steve's recommended (which will shuttle you over to the World Cruise Center). You can also stay in Long Beach (depending on the area and hotel) and have a short taxi ride (or even free shuttle) to the Port of Los Angeles.
