Gardening Girl Posted March 25, 2010 #26 Share Posted March 25, 2010 Several people on this thread have raved about their experiences with Alvaro & Diego, including prompt e-mail responses. I'm just wondering if those folks contacted them via the Odyssey website or from your personal outlook express, etc.? I e-mailed them a couple of times within the past few days from my outlook express and haven't heard back from them and I am disappointed, not sure what's going on! Just wondering if anyone had the same experience. Thanks, GG
Gardening Girl Posted March 26, 2010 #27 Share Posted March 26, 2010 I finally decided to send an e-mail thru their website yesterday and sure enough I heard from them later that day, and they had received my previous messages but weren't responding to them for some reason. Heads up if you want info on a tour conatct them thru their website, you will get a quick response!
sunny1960 Posted March 27, 2010 #28 Share Posted March 27, 2010 How long did it take for them to e-mail you back? I'm not getting a response. Thanks
Gardening Girl Posted March 29, 2010 #29 Share Posted March 29, 2010 The first time around it was 3 days and no response until I e-mailed thru their website and then I heard back from them later that day. Now I am going thru it again, I hit reply on their last message, thinking I should get a quicker response, and I didn't hear anything after a day or so, so back to their website I went and sent them a message that way. It's now been 2 & 1/2 days and no response yet, I'm hoping I will hear from them today! Good Luck!! GG
Gardening Girl Posted March 31, 2010 #30 Share Posted March 31, 2010 It's been more than 4 days since my husband sent a message to Alvaro & Diego asking about a custom tour, and still no response!! Not good for business and I'm disappointed, everyone on these boards raved about Alavaro & Diego and how great they are, etc.! We were hoping to book a tour with them, I guess that isn't going to happen. We will make other plans!
Rare mizLORInj Posted March 31, 2010 #31 Share Posted March 31, 2010 We did a tour with Alvaro just last Wednesday and it was great. I highly recommend them for an enjoyable day in Costa Rica. -Lori
cruisinlawn Posted April 14, 2010 #32 Share Posted April 14, 2010 we toured using Odyssey last month and had no problems. Alvaro paired us with Gustavo. Very courteous and polite, good English and stayed with us the entire day while visiting TuRuBari Park. He allowed us a stop on the return so we could restock our sodas/water. A pleasant experience in all and yep, we would use them again. Enjoy.
Golfermom Posted May 10, 2010 #33 Share Posted May 10, 2010 We used Odyssey Tours this April in Puntarenas, Costa Rica. Our group of 8 people had a wonderful day. Alvaro met us at the end of the pier, just as he said he would. We had a exciting Skyway walk in the jungle where we saw lots of wildlife. Alvaro & his dad were great at finding birds & monkeys for us. Our next stop was at the beach for a fresh, homemade & delightful lunch of local foods. We then went for a ride on the river where we saw many other birds & watched as a guide fed a crocodile right in front of us. We were transported back to our cruise ship. I can't say enough about how exciting our day was. Alvaro was extremely knowledgeable & took care of all our needs. If you are in Costa Rica contact Odyssey Tours & you will have a great day. Thanks reading the previous "raves", lots came from people with 2 posts only, etc. maybe some of them are not real cruise critic members or fake accounts??? just a thought... IC57 Posted September 26, 2010 #37 Share Posted September 26, 2010 I too am interested in Odyssey Tours, mostly for their Monteverde Cloud Forest tour. It is either that or booking an nature/adventure tour with TuRuBaRi directly. Has anyone any experiences to relate about the Monteverde tour? or further dealings with Odyssey Tours? My email (through their site) has gone unanswered, though I haven't been waiting long yet. Feedback from other CC members about Odyssey Tours would be appreciated. Thanks, Ian
IC57 Posted September 27, 2010 #38 Share Posted September 27, 2010 We have heard from Odyssey Tours and have booked ourselves in for the Monteverde Cloud Forest Tour when we visit at the end of October. Will report back after the visit...
OSU grad Posted September 30, 2010 #39 Share Posted September 30, 2010 We used Odyssey Tours last January for transporation from the San Jose Airport to the Doubletree Hotel near Caldera, from the hotel to the Windstar the next morning and a week later from the ship back to the airport. Alvaro and Diego are completely dependable, personable and speak perfect English. They have the proper permits to take you right to the ship with NO walking from the outside gates. We would use them again with no hesitation!
psteve Posted October 20, 2010 #40 Share Posted October 20, 2010 We just did a 2 day tour with them and it was the highlight of our cruise. They are very knowledgeable of all aspects of their country and speak perfect English. We saw things on our tour that others on board only dreamed of. Just a side note some roads have been washed out and caused major traffic jams that caused delays. Some cruise tours were canceled due to this and the ship getting into port late. I highly recommend them and am so glad that I didn't book through the cruise
mazda Posted November 2, 2010 #41 Share Posted November 2, 2010 We just returned from a 9 hour day tour with Odyssey tours and loved it. Alvaro was our guide and his father was our driver. We had an excellent day and saw a lot of wildlife as that was our priority. Can highly recommend their services and you will have a good day. They were waiting for us at the cruise ship dock and we left promptly. The price they quoted included everything, lunch, ziplining, everything we did. I contacted them through their web site, and they responded back within a day. Would love to come back to Costa Rica and stay for a week, and would not hesitate to use their services again. ajh1cruiser Posted December 11, 2010 #45 Share Posted December 11, 2010 We had a wonderful time on our tour with Odyssey. Alvaro communicated with me prior to the cruise excursion and adjusted our wishes for our trip accordingly. There were 22 people that signed up for the tour. Andres was our Tour guide and he went out of his way to make this trip memorable for everybody. The morning was filled with ziplining for the adventurous and there was an alternate activity for the people that did not do the zipline (couples could split up for that time period) In the afternoon we (ALL) did the Crocodile Man tour and we had a great time. The weather did not always cooperate--but nobody let it spoil their fun! I recommend Odyssey tours for a great time!:)
mattie1000 Posted December 15, 2010 #46 Share Posted December 15, 2010 Odyssey Tours are the best! In November our family (4 adults and a 7-year old child) had a great holiday in Costa Rica. Since I had met Diego on our last visit to Puntarenas on a cruise, I decided to contact Odyssey again for our needs this time. Alvaro was extremely helpful in suggestions for accommodations as well as activities. He answered all my e-mails very promptly. Alvaro and Diego and their dad were wonderful guides in our travels. They took us from San Jose to Arenal (where we stayed for 2 days) and then on to Tamarindo (for 7 days at Hacienda Pinilla). They then took us from Hacienda Pinilla back to San Jose. Also, when I was a little concerned since we were arriving at night, they offered to pick us up at the airport and drive us to our hotel. We agreed on the rates before we left home and they were very reasonable. During each of these trips we did sightseeing. They helped load and unload our luggage and stopped at wonderful restaurants for meals. The van was very comfortable! Communication was no problem. If and when we go back to Costa Rica, I will contact Odyssey again and highly recommend them for all travellers.
EurekaDK Posted December 30, 2010 #47 Share Posted December 30, 2010 In Costa Rica we docked at Puntarenas and toured with Odyssey Tours. I worked with Alvaro, the owner, did a great job of working with us to arrange the best possible experience. The highlight was Manual Antonio National Park where we hiked about a mile through the jungle where we saw howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys, a white nosed coati, raccoons, a baby boa constrictor and iguanas. We stopped at a gorgeous beach with very few tourists. On the way back to the ship we saw crocodiles in the river, squirrel monkeys and radiant scarlet macaws. A perfect day for those who want to observe wildlife in the wild. I would highly recommend Odyssey Tours. It was truly a magical day.
chip & spinxx Posted February 10, 2011 #48 Share Posted February 10, 2011 We arrived via Coral Princess in early January for a one day excursion. We booked Odyssey Tours with Alvaro to visit Manuel Antonio National Park. He met us on the dock and escorted us to a very nice air conditioned Mercedes bus. The 2 hour trip to the park was through an very beautiful part of the country, and Alvaro was extremely helpful identifying both fauna and flora along the way. We stopped to pre-order lunch at a very nice open air restaurant, then met his brother who had purchased our tickets to the park earlier that morning. Access to the park is limited. The park exceeded our expectations. Google to get the details...you will not be dissappointed! The lunch on the return trip was outstanding. We had fresh mahi, and an incredible salad made from native ingredients. After that we stopped to check out the biggest crocs I've ever seen. We loved Costa Rica, and are really looking forward to returning soon!
budaman Posted February 10, 2011 #49 Share Posted February 10, 2011 If I had more than two thumbs, they'd all be thumbs up for Alavaro, Diego & Odyssey also! Everything was as arranged & they couldn't have been better hosts. Mike
arpclock Posted February 21, 2011 #50 Share Posted February 21, 2011 We used Odyssey Tours for our transfers from Santa Elena/Monteverde to Puerto Caldera and Puerto Caldera to Alejuela via Sarchi. Alvaro and Diego are both great guides and easy to work with. At the port they were able to take us directly to shipside. We highly recommend their company.
