Still Dizzy.......anyone else have this after cruise??

Recommended Posts

It's six days after my cruise and I'm still dizzy. On board it wasn't too bad, we did have some rocky days but it didn't bother me, but since getting off I'm reeling! Anyone else experience this? Thanks! icon_frown.gif

I have the same problem after the shorter cruises. I have used an over the counter sinus medicine and it seems to clear up in a day or so. For some reason I don't have a problem with the longer cruises.

You will come back down to earth...just try to be patient. I suffered for 5 - 8 days after my first few cruises. Now, I feel no "after-effects", so more cruising is the best cure!

My DH and I have had that after both of our cruises- feels like we're rocking side to side. I thought it was funny last time, but this time we were both feeling yucky after the rough Mexican Riviera cruise, so I continued to take Bonine the day after.

I had it after my 7-night cruise, but not after my two 4-night. Mine took about a week before it was totally gone. Try to stay away from small enlosed areas (i.e. shower icon_eek.gif) as much as possible... that's when mine was the worst.

cathykb icon_biggrin.gif "so more cruising is the best cure!" sure sounds like the answer to me !!

I am still rocking and dizzy after my cruise last September. icon_biggrin.gif Seriously, take 1/2 tablet of Bonine for a few more days.

Thanks for the info. I thought I was crazy. We just got back from a weekend on the QM2 and my head has been spinning all day. I'm going to try a decongestant.

My son didn't have any trouble on his five-day cruise (until he got off). It took him a few days to feel better.

I always get dizzy and off balance with a shorter cruise, 11 days + no problem!

My allergy medicine helps me, yeah for the darn allergies! MY worst ever experience was a houseboat on Lake Mead outside Las Vegas, I could not walk a straight line for one week!

I only felt this after my cruise on Carnival...RCCL's ships, I find, stabilizers work better...it took me a good few days to stop swaying after the Inspiration. We spend a week with my brother in Tampa after the cruise and I remember feeling that way for much of the week. icon_cool.gif

I actually "rocked" for about 8 weeks from the last cruise I took. (11 years ago) I actually went to med center and everything and there was nothing they could do. Finally it went away. Funny thing is, I get this when I go up and down in elevators several times in a short period of time too. Good luck, it will end eventually!

I am just like choozin cruzin, I find if I wear the patch on the cruise and leave it on for several days upon returning home it helps alot.

you might be suffering from

Mal de debarquement

that web site says that Mal de Debarquement Syndrome (or MDDS) is an imbalance or rocking sensation that occurs after prolonged exposure to motion (most commonly after a sea cruise or a long airplane flight).

The good news is that it does go away. The bad news is that it could take some folks as long as 6-12 months - or longer! They think the patch prevents it and speculate that valium type drugs and physical therapy help cure it. Seems women in their 40s get it more than other groups. Oh, that's just great icon_eek.gif

All I know is it's NOT fun.

After a week cruise I will have the rocking for 2 or 3 weeks. My dh will have it for only a couple of days and the couple we travel with don't get it at all. It slowly goes away and seems to be at its worst when I am in the grocery store or if I look down and up quickly.

The good news is that it goes away. So you can plan you next cruise.

Is the only thing that I don't like about cruising....

And the worse thing is feeling awful while on the ports of call and then back to normal once back on board.

But feeling dizzy after the cruise have an advantage: when somebody asks you "what's wrong with you?" you can just rub it in that you are feeling dizzy because YOU JUST CAME BACK FROM A CRUISE! icon_biggrin.gif

Glad to know I am not the only suffering from being dizzy after the cruise. I just got back sunday from the carnival pride 7 day mexican riviera cruise and I am still feeling the affects. I was not sea sick nor do I feel sick, it is the constant dizziness that will hopefully go away soon. It is a very odd feeling. Had a wonderful time!!
