Should I wait for an Azamara "free" or reduced airfare promotion

or just book a reward ticket. I am on the June 18 2010 sailing of the Quest Istanbul to Athens. I have to transfer american express membership rewards miles to the airline frequent flyer program

I would book on points. There's no guarantee that Azamara will have either reduced air or free air program. I'm not sure I've ever seen a free air promotion for them, but that doesn't mean they don't have them. It just seems that free air is the province of the 5-6 star lines, Regent, Silversea, etc. Azamara doesn't charge enough to cover the air.

 

But, since you don't already have the miles in place, you should see if they're even available - if you're going to be on an airline that releases free seats 330 days out, you may be too late to book business or first class. Coach is usually a little easier to book, in my experience. Good luck!:)
