Why get angry about this?

Because so many (not all) of the RC cruisers display an uppity attitude as if they're too good to do laundry on vacation and only "those Carnival people" would want to do that. However, if they would sail Carnival and see they can pack less luggage and not spend $25.00 to have a few pieces washed, they'd realize what a convenience the laundry room is.

That is just not true, we did NCL who had them and would never even think of using them. I have seen what some people put in those washers :eek:because when we were first married our apartment had no laundry facilities.

I did not know this was a RCI vs. Carnival thread.

I did not know this was a RCI vs. Carnival thread.

Because someone said this:

If folks want to spend thousands on a vacation and then spend hours of it in a laundry room to save $30, then they can sail on the Carnival Corp lines that offer this "service."

And it started the ugly ball rolling. It then is the domino effect of people either defending a certain line or the wonder of why someone-over a silly bb poll would have to throw out the old-'just sail another line' theme.

But

If folks just gave a simple yes, no or just the facts jack post-this bb would be boring!! :p

Have you ever been on a 28 day cruise (Transatlantic/Med.)? The laundromat is a life saver.:)

Since we usually sail on longer cruises we certainly do wish Royal offered self service laundry facilities. I'm not sure I understand the point of this poll since it's never going to happen in our lifetime. I guess we're in fantasy land. Sadly, NCL has recently had theirs removed as a way to generate more revenue. Royal adding self service laundry facilities would make no sense from a strictly economic point of view.

Nope, but did do 14 days Med and other cruises with 2-3 day precruise stays. Did not do laundry once. I also know how to mix and match and color coordinate. And in a pinch rinse out a few blouses personal items in the sink. And if needed have the ship do some. In the past 30 years I can count on one hand how many time I have been in a laundromat.

Holland America and Princess both offer laundry facilities on some of their ships but they both also cater to those wanting longer cruises. If you do a search on RC for cruises, there are 11 choices for cruises of 17+ days. HAL has 224 cruises of 17+ days available, and they only have their schedule posted through Dec. 2010. Princess has 178 choices available through May 2011 for 17+ day cruises. Something to note, HAL does not have laundry facilities on their newest ships, which has upset some of their loyal followers. Apparently they are learning from RC that self-service laundry doesn't generate enough revenue.

A resounding NO. OMG! Please RCL Do Not start this or add this to your cruise line. The last thing any one wants to do is laundry on their cruise vacation.

Actually, I'm quite particular with how to care for my garments so I'd much rather do my own laundry than have the cruiseline do it. For instance, I won't have to worry about pieces being dried on high as opposed to low, I wouldn't have to worry about some of my tees coming back with pinholes in them because they safety pinned my bill to my tee (yes - that's happened to three top-ranked tees of mine), I wouldn't have permanent marker writing on any of my tags (Majesty wrote my room number on just about every piece of clothing), etc.

I'd much rather throw in a few loads like I did on Carnival, go play basketball or head to the pool, and then go back and throw them in the dryer. The one thing I don't want to do is iron because I believe that's a time wasting PITA and the ship does a spectacular job of pressing items. I'd pay for that in a heartbeat.

I wouldn't use them, but why would it bother me if they existed? I voted I Don't Care.

Exactly. I absolutely respect your right to not do laundry on a cruise or any vacation.

I don't get the answers that are basically "No, they shouldn't have them because I wouldn't use them." For crying out loud people! I don't generally use the spa services or the casino or the rock wall, but you don't hear me saying the cruise line shouldn't have them because I don't use them.

Really? What you mean is that the last thing you "want" to do on vacation is laundry. You don't speak for me.

In point of fact though, it's not a matter of "wanting" to do laundry. I don't know anyone who actually "wants" to do laundry, either on vacation or at home. My DH does the laundry in our house and often ponders when someone will invent a laundry center that will sort, wash, transfer to the dryer or hang up, fold/hang, and put away all our clothes and linens.

There are any number of reasons people might want to have passenger laundry centers onboard. One that I haven't seen mentioned is that many of our items, especially warm weather attire, are hang to dry or delicate (just warmer than air) dry. The cruise line doesn't offer hang to dry as an option. When it's hot/humid and we're active, we go through more clothes. We don't care to re-wear a shirt or top a second time without washing in between. With the cost of checked luggage, combined with the difficulty for us of schlepping extras, I'd rather just have the option to do a load of laundry when it's convenient.

No one is suggesting that you do laundry on your cruise vacations! It would be entirely optional.

I voted I do not care. My husband does the laundry so if he wants to do it when we are on vacation I won't stop him.

When we're on vacation, I do any laundry that has to be done to give my DH a break. He does plenty of the "chores" at home and while traveling, so it's my little way of saying thank you.

I would like one, especially on longer vacations and pre cruise stays, I prefer to wash my things myself, I hate to think its being washed in with other peoples items, yuk!! I dont mind spending an hour or so waiting while its washing, I would sit and read my book. and chill, no problem. The thing is, whether you would want want or whether you would use it, really doesnt matter , the choice for all would be good to have. And it would mean taking less luggage which saves money for nicer things.

I think it's tacky to do laundry on vacation! Do you same people take food with you on land based vacations to cut back on the cost of restaurants? If a person can't afford to go on a vacation without cutting corners, save for a while longer ungtil you can!

How can it be tacky??? I would rather wash my things myself not have them put in a washer where other peoples clothes are or just come out of the same water, yuk!! I could say sending your clothes to be washed its tacky.

As mentioned earlier, it has nothing to do with taking the issue to the RCI board of directors. It was the statements on another post where the vocals we saying those wishing laundry services were in the minority:

...reading this thread alone and some more in the past on this topic, I get the impression (note this is no scientific poll, but a feeling and opinion) that those wanting the laundry rooms are in the minority.

From the responses on here - it seems just a select few have any desire at all to do laundry on a cruise. Those who do need laundry don't seem to have a problem with the system as it is. Those who find doing laundry on vacation important - seem to be in a distinct minority on this board. So, if we are a small representation of the average cruiser, why would they want to waste the space on washers and dryers?

Well, sort of. You made a comment in the previous thread something like "RCI should give the customers what they want." I replied that, based on that thread, RCI would probably think they had because it appeared more posts were saying they didn't want self service laundries than did. You didn't see the balance of opinion that way and said maybe a poll wa in order and this thread followed.

If I were RCI, looking at this poll, I don't think I would change my mind. At this point, a slight majority of those participating said they wish RCI had self service laundries. A slightly smaller number say they either don't care or don't want them. If anything, the "I don't care number" is probably low because one who really doesn't care most likely wouldn't even bother to open the thread. And even those who voted yes only said they wished there were laundries. Many specifically said they would continue to cruise with RCI anyway. If I were RCI looking at a poll like this, I don't think I would see any groundswell of opposition and would see no reason to re-think using the space for something else.

Having worked in marketing, this surely is NOT a scientific poll. ANd whether RCI sees this or not is not the intention.

But when half of those responding are voting YES, and you use the word "slight", I have to laugh. Spin at its best.

The spin was in the wording of the questions. Would you really turn in an effort likle this to one of your marketing clients?

I agree with this opinion. My longest cruise so far was 4 nights and laundry never even crossed my mind. Frankly, I'm not sure I'd want to do laundry on any cruise, regardless of length. But that does not mean I think the facilities should not exist. Why shouldn't they? Others would use them.

I think those that would like the facility are most likely those that cruise longer, we did 12 night and a pre cruise stay, so at least 12 days clean clothes , plus formal wear plus swim items, etc and our airline only allowed 20kg!! we did pay extra for the luggage but would have welcomed an area to wash one lot of clothes, instead I hand washed and hung over shower on balcony etc which was a pain.

I couldn't care less if there was one or not, for different reasons:

1. I don't do my laundry at home, I have outsourced this, so I'm certainly not going to do it on vacation.

2. I have expensive/ delicate clothes. Everything needs to be sorted and washed separately; I only want my sheets and towels to be machine dried, all the rest is either line dried or even flat on a drying rack (for example sweaters, so they don't what's the word? get longer because of the weight of the water in the material). I would be a real PITA to do all that while on the ship.

3. I am perfectly able to pack enough clothes for at least a 3 week vacation. Btw, I'm female, more than 6 feet tall, I have big feet and bring a lot of shoes, lol.

On our last US vacation, in April, we took 6 flights in total, each had two suitcases and carry-ons, and didn't have to pay anything extra for the suitcases.
