cruising3times Posted December 29, 2004 #1 Share Posted December 29, 2004 A couple of years ago on the Pride we were looking out a window on the ship and there were about twenty bottlenose dolphins. what an amazing site. I never thought this would happen again but Sunday when we were coming into the Tampa port for a second time on the Miracle we saw a couple of dolphins. I couldn't believe our luck. I did not have a camera with me either time.
staylor Posted December 29, 2004 #2 Share Posted December 29, 2004 I see them almost every cruise. They love to play in the wake. In Miami they are probably porpoises. I am no expert, but have been told this by fellow passengers.
GoinCruisin Posted December 29, 2004 #3 Share Posted December 29, 2004 I've seen them too in Tampa... it is pretty cool to see them :D
hstrybuf Posted December 30, 2004 #4 Share Posted December 30, 2004 They followed the Legend out of Martinique back in April. First time I ever saw them do that. :)
SouthernCaribbean Posted December 30, 2004 #5 Share Posted December 30, 2004 I have seen them following the wake after leaving Dominica. Whales sightings are also common.
IKE Posted December 30, 2004 #6 Share Posted December 30, 2004 I have never seen them on all 44 Cruises I have taken. I will not give up. One of these days I will see them. However while vacationing in St. Petersburg near "The Pier", I saw them along side the pier playing and frolicking in the bay. It was an amazing site to behold. I was thrilled. ladycaveat Posted December 30, 2004 #7 Share Posted December 30, 2004 I really hate to sound so dumb but I have to ask . . . what's the difference between porpoises and dolphins?
Kitty34 Posted December 30, 2004 #8 Share Posted December 30, 2004 I would love to see these dolphins!!! My luck I probably won't! It's like when I want to see a gator "in the wilds" when we go to Florida and never once have!!!

beaming90 Posted December 30, 2004 #10 Share Posted December 30, 2004 Oh, I hope we see them on our Cruise out of Port Canaveral!! My high school band played the Mardi Gras parades in the early 80's and on that long 20 some hour bus ride from Kansas City to New Orleans we saw something, no one was sure if it was an alligator or crocadile so the rest of the trip we were telling anyone who listened that we saw a crocagator. It was great because on the other two busses with us (close to 200 of us went from our school) no one saw it. just our bus. So maybe I'll be lucky enough to see dolphins on my cruise. Isn't that crazy? the most memorable thing to me was seeing a critter in the swampland. That and Andy Gibb was in the hotel elevator with us. Whoohooo!
celticd1 Posted December 30, 2004 #11 Share Posted December 30, 2004 I so hope to see some dolphins! I did see one while leaving Tampa on the Sensation, but just for a minute or so. I will be watching the wake as we leave Miami for sure! I also saw flying fish almost every day on the Sensation cruise, very cool to watch them "fly" away from the ship. What about whales in the caribbean? Does anyone know if we might spot some? That would truly be a sight!

sgriff17 Posted December 30, 2004 #13 Share Posted December 30, 2004 Ive never seen them on a ship...however, for all of you that live in VA - you know, there are ALWAYS dolphins swimming around playing off the coast of VA Beach. It's pretty neato :)
Sharkin Posted December 30, 2004 #14 Share Posted December 30, 2004 Beaming90, It seems you saw the fabled Crocogator. It has a Gator head on one end, a Croc head on the other and is one of the meanest critters alive. Why is it so mean you ask? With a head on each end, it can't go potty. That would make anything pretty mean!!
Micktooth Posted December 31, 2004 #15 Share Posted December 31, 2004 I saw many dolphins on our NCL cruise out of New Orleans. They seemed to follow us almost the entire way to Cozumel! They always seemed to be just off to the port or starboard behind the ship in its wake.
swells2345 Posted December 31, 2004 #16 Share Posted December 31, 2004 We saw about a dozen dolphins as we were leaving the port of Galveston recently. Then upon our return we saw another 4 or 5 playing around. No whales or flying fish, unfortunately. We had rough seas and only saw white caps for the most part! Julia’s Journey’s Posted December 31, 2004 #17 Share Posted December 31, 2004 We have seen dolphin while on the Princess ship in the caribbean and also while on the beach in Hilton head, the kids ran up the beach along side them. Hope we get to see some in April too.
Fancyfin Posted December 31, 2004 #18 Share Posted December 31, 2004 I haven't seen any dolphins while on a cruise, but My DH and I saw thousands of jelly fish (jellies :) ) after leaving Port Canaveral on the Fantasy. After the muster, we went up top to look over the rail and they were thick! We have pictures of them!Hope I see dolphins though on my Miracle cruise in March! nybumpkin Posted January 1, 2005 #19 Share Posted January 1, 2005 We saw a number of dolphins off Cape Cod on the return leg of our Canada cruise aboard Victory. Tried to take pictures, but didn't have the right lenses. (See that spot in the ocean? It's a dolphin...Honest!:) ) The year before, we took a boat trip out of Lewes, Delaware to see dolphins, and saw quite a few. (That time we were close enough that you can tell there are dolphins in the picture.)
hill6 Posted January 1, 2005 #20 Share Posted January 1, 2005 We seen about a dozen dolphins playing in front of the ship when we sailed on the Fantasy this past summer. It was an awesome way to start a wonderful cruise.
JrMafia90 Posted January 1, 2005 #21 Share Posted January 1, 2005 When we were pulling into Halifax, we had about 4 or 5 sea otters behind the ship swiming on their backs. I didn't see any dolphins, but my wife and kids said they seen dolphins.

Sharon Temple Posted January 5, 2005 #23 Share Posted January 5, 2005 We've seen a few dolphins here and there on cruises, but on the Spirit on the way back from Hawaii, we saw hundreds. It was AWESOME! They were leaping out of the water and swimming right up to the ship and back out again. Water was clear and you could see the spots on them. We've never seen such an amazing sight and I believe we were blessed to see them. I don't know if we'll ever see anything like that again. Although we did see a hammerhead shark swim right up to the ship while we were docked in Galveston, TX once. That was cool.
jncissel Posted January 13, 2005 #24 Share Posted January 13, 2005 I've been on 2 cruises, the first we saw dolphins along side the ship, this time, no dolphins but HUNDREDS of flying fish! They were amazing! We even saw little baby ones :)
SouthernCaribbean Posted July 2, 2005 #25 Share Posted July 2, 2005 Any recent sightings. Its always so cool to watch the dolphins play in the ocean as the ship sails right past them.
