Got a call from my travel agent yesterday (Nov 10th) to say Holland America contact them regarding my cruise on the Statendam Nov 13th. The ships is full, would I like to change my cabin from M756 to an S?

I said YES!

That's the biggest bump I ever imagined. Of course there were special circumstances to my situation as well, but that's the jist of my story and I'm sticking to it.

Fingers crossed!

The upgrade fairy called my TA who called me late last night with an incredible upgrade offer -- I have a VH GTY but was offered an upgrade to an SS for a very fair price... I said YES of course!

:):):)

The catch is this: my TA said the offer was only valid yesterday and she did not reach me until after 9:00 p.m. last night...she is going to call HAL first thing today and then and let me know if I got it... Cross your fingers for me!

Got it! :) Am thrilled, delighted, and over the moon!...and it was a combo of both an upgrade and upsell, I guess you could say...an excellent upgrade at a small price.

Nice upgrade Suse. I'm still waiting for my cabin number' date=' sailing on the Prinsendam Nov. 25/09.[/quote']

This cruise of ours was booked quite some time ago before Donny got so sick. So, I am very thankful to be cruising at all. If we get there, no kidding. It's been a rough time, every day really, sad and all that stuff and we are coping, but jeepers, what a nice thing to look forward to. And, my son is alive and healing. What a fine blessing.

love,

Susie

I come to this board, in between my work, to laugh. It works.:)

Our TA says usually 7 days before sailing if you have a guarantee cabin. Doing the 17 day on Noordam Dec. 11 - 28 and on HAL website, the second half (Dec. 21 to 28th) is sold out. But, there are still balcony and suite cabins to be sold on the first half so not holding my breath for an assignment until the first week of Dec. or thereabouts. Have a balcony guarantee.

We're approaching 2 weeks to sailing and I have to admit I'm checking the HAL site at least once a day to see if the upgrade fairy has waved her wand over our balcony guar. column...

Anybody else been upgraded lately or are the ships sailing near full?

The ships are sailing near full, but getting an upgrade really has little to do with that - just how many unbooked cabins there are above you.

Just because a ship has reached its maximum capacity does not mean that every category is full. Lower steps in each major class (inside, outside, verandah, suite) are always over-sold with guarantees, and top steps are always under-sold. Then beginning about 3 weeks before sailing, the shuffle of upgrades and assignments begin, to disperse the bookings into available spaces.

Still waiting to hear about my guar. In march when I had one, I didn't hear my rm number until 3 days prior to sailing. I spoke to my TA yesterday, no word yet! Don't care about much except getting on that "dam" ship :D

We've received one of our two stateroom numbers for our back-to-back sailings. We had an MM room and received a J on deck 8 (I think it is navigation deck). Not bad.

Not knowing how these assignments work, I am assuming that on a back to back cruise, you are able to stay in the same cabin for both portions of the cruise?

With a guarantee, no. They could have reserved a specific cabin and done this, but they went for a guarantee.

I understand though it is not a big deal. Fellow cruisers from our roll call booked a back to back on the Westerdam, when we cruised her. They posted that their old steward and their new steward moved them and they were escorted by them to their new room,(they did have to pack though) after everyone debarked. In their case, they were on the same deck, but they were moved to the other side of the ship, but they said it was only a few steps away, (across the ship by the elevators to other side) and was not bad at all.

Suse, after everything your family has been thru its time to sit back, relax and Enjoy your cruise -

Wishing you the cruise of a life time, may all your dreams come true!

That's very nice of you. I'm on pins and needles right now, with the flu everywhere around us, especially with Donny who will not handle it well, but I keep optimistic generally speaking.

Thank you very much for your kind thoughts.:)
