TurtleLove Posted August 25, 2009 #1 Share Posted August 25, 2009 I have never cruised over the holidays before and I am wondering what to expect. I will be on the Oosterdam for New Years Eve this year. Do they throw a big party on the deck? Do they do some special dinner in the main dining room to celebrate the holiday? Does everyone dress up? Thanks! :p
3basenjis Posted September 30, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 30, 2009 we are on that crusie as well and this will be our first time on HAL. To make thing more interesting we have a stateroom guarantee for an "SC". a first for us as we have always chosen our stateroom. Any thoughts on this? INSIDERS CABIN Posted September 30, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 30, 2009 last new year's we were on Noordam--and yes, to all questions.....special dinner, hats for all, big formal night party, dancing and countdown in vista lounge on stage and on floor and in crows nest, smaller party with tv feed of big party with pianist entertaining. It seemed like the whole ship was rocking! I have never seen such a lively night onboard HAL; the next morning was VERY quiet! Celebration has ramped up quite a bit in recent years....early on, in the 90's, i just remember balloons and champagne in the atrium on board HAL. INSIDERS CABIN Posted September 30, 2009 #4 Share Posted September 30, 2009 Oh-and being in the suites, nothing different happened there except we were able to get a good dinner table-reserve very early if you are AYWD-it is a very full night in the DR. Mary Ellen Posted September 30, 2009 #5 Share Posted September 30, 2009 reserve very early if you are AYWD-it is a very full night in the DR.Every passenger on the ship has AYWD. There is NO if. Some have fixed seating and some have open. ALL of the dinging venues are part of AYWD: Main Dining room, room service, Pinnacle Grill, Lido, pool grill......
