WIFI in AK ports?

We'll be cruising to AK in 2 weeks and wondering if any of you have had luck finding free wifi in any of the AK ports? Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

Not sure exactly what ports you're going to, but...

 

Juneau: Go to the public library. There are maybe 8? computers with 30 min access, and 2 with 15 min access. Free, but you may need to wait your turn. They do accept donations.

 

Sitka: Go to the Highliner Cafe on Seward St (right next to the fire station). 90 minutes (I think!) of internet free to customers (so, buy a muffin or a drink). I believe they have one computer that can be borrowed, but you can also bring your own laptop.

Do what we do: follow the crew! They always know the WIFI hotspots. Whenever you see them sit dowen and start to type, there it is. Their staff Internet connection is expensive too, so they usually go into port.

 

Or you can have a local brew at one of the pubs, most likely offering free Wireless.

We'll be in Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan. And yes, I was looking for free wifi access to use our laptop with. I'd love to be able to stay right on board and use it from there, with a free connection somehow, while we're in port. But I suppose that's dreaming!

 

I don't mind paying to use an internet cafe, but I'd rather use my own laptop when I can. Then I can email pictures and so on.

The Juneau library wi-fi is free and it's right at the dock. I've always wondered if the ship docked right by it could pick up the signal. The library is atop the parking garage; you can't miss it.

Seaport cyber in Alaska has a pay system that is $6 per hour. (very reasonable) They have sites in most of the ports and if you pay in one, you can use it in any other port. Very nicely set up.
