Alaska Sunset

Would like to share a sunset we witnessed as we sailed from Endicott Arm to Ketchikan (Aug 26, 2009). It was just after 8:00pm when we noticed the bright colors in the sky. It had been cloudy most of the day and the sun broke through just before sunset.

We saw our most beautiful sunrises and sunsets in Alaska!

In June, we took a cruise through the inside passage from Seattle to Seattle. Very early in the cruise, we were able to see both a sunset and then a sunrise right in front of us on our balcony. We couldn't figure out how that was possible. My husband was talking out on the balcony with our neighbor about it. Our neighbor said that, since we were so far north, the sun would rise and set in the same place. That was news to us but we couldn't figure out a better explaination. The next day we were speaking with the staff captain (person under the captain) who said that the ship had to completely turn around that night for a short while to manuver out of one area and into another. We had a good laugh about that and very glad that we hadn't shared our neighbors explaination with other people!

Isn't traveling wonderful?!!! Oh my the sights you see on a cruise is mind altering. We have seen the most beautiful sunsets and sunrises but none to beat the ones we saw on our Alaska cruise.

Thank you for sharing.
