Anchorage to Seward on the train

For those who have taken the train from Anchorage to Seward, how much room is available in the car for carry on luggage? Does it have to go under the seat in front? Would it be better to have a small soft sided bag as opposed to the standard wheelie type?

Thanks in advance.

A wheeled carry on will not fit. It is just the space under the seat. If it won't fit under your seat it would be under the table interfering with the people sitting across from you too.

Thank you. That is what I suspected.

It depends WHAT train ? Are you in a private car- via a cruise tour- OR did you book yourself on the Alaska Rail Road?? There is a lot of luggage space in Adventure Class(all I ever do) Overhead, and on the end by the vestibule. No need to bother with any minimal under seat space.

Someone on here has said that you can arrange at the train to have your luggage transferred to the ship

You can't "arrange it" it either will be offered or it won't be available. You can call Alaska RR direct and inquire, also would confirm when you check the bags.

I had no problem "arranging it" when i went to the ticket counter i asked about getting my luggage to the Royal Carribean ship and they directed me outside to the white tented area to have my luggage tagged and taken. No problem at all.
