  1. Hi,

Any suggestions for apartments close to the port that would have washer/drier facilities in the apartment? Would like to be able to get some washing done before the cruise.

Would prefer to avoid a laundromat because I don 't want to have to spend my tourist time waiting for it to get done.

    Thanks

  2. I was in 8084 with my family on the Radiance. We only heard louder music the night of the 70's party and even then it was muffled. I do remember slightly hearing the music from some of the guest artists but it never seemed to play too late.

If you are particularly sensitive to noise it may be better to move a bit further down. We had our two young boys with us, so I'm used to blocking out their noise ;) I thought it was a great location.

  3. i did a google search and came up with this

    General Information

Avomine is for the prevention and treatment of motion sickness.

It can also be used in the treatment and prevention of nausea and vomiting due to other causes, including gastro-enteritis, vestibular disturbance, drug intolerance, migraine, infectious diseases and radiatio therapy.

    Warnings

This product should not be used in children under 2 years of age because safety of such use has not been established

you can buy them from the purser but better off buying from home, much cheaper

Be careful with that. The Avomine we bought earlier this year said it was not to be given to children under 9 as it can be very harmful. The information sheet in the packet said the alternative for children was Phenergan. We went to the chemist and got a bottle over the counter for our 8 & 6 year olds and used it with great succcess. We gave them a dose before bed so they could sleep off the drowsy effect, and then they were covered for nausea during the day. My husband and I took Avomine before bed for the same reason.

  4. Thanks to each of you for all the helpful info.

In all honesty, I don't expect to be able to keep it a secret from my husband, especially when we get to the nitty gritty of planning. Not sure how I'd explain a blank 7 nights ;) but it's quite a chunk of $ on an already expensive trip so I want less time for him to talk me out of it. It's really a once in a lifetime family trip and I know I'd regret not booking on the Oasis when I've got the chance. He'll love the idea when I tell him, especially when he sees the awesome location of the cabin I booked.

harry0 - glad you enjoyed Australia. I was in the US 20 years ago, can't wait to be back and share the fun of your country with my family.

  5. I have booked a surprise cruise from FLL in June 2015. We are on a 6 week trip to the US and will be in Orlando pre-cruise. I've told the kids we should go and watch some of the big ships sail away but not sure I could convince my husband to drive 3 hours and stay overnight just to watch a ship sail.

So my question is, what would be an attraction of going all that way that I can sell to my husband so he doesn't get wind of the cruise?

I would like to see more of the area too, just don't know what's there.

    Thanks :)

  6. Oh my gosh....that is so exciting!

    Jenny

I'm very excited, so hard not to talk about it at home. We're going to the US to visit family. Some are in Florida and I knew I'd regret it if I didn't book us on Oasis.

I see you have all got the cruising bug ;) I'll be interested in how you like the Solstice.

  7. I wouldn't be too concerned about eastern vs western Caribbean. Both are very nice! We happen to like Western better.

That's good to hear. The main reason I was favouring Eastern is for my older son who has been obsessed with aircraft all his life. I thought he'd get a kick from going to Maho Beach.

  8. Thanks to Bob and kat144 for your input too. I was hoping what you said would be true and I didn't want to lose a room like that so I booked it. A little scared and excited because it means the whole trip is actually happening now. The cruise was being added in as a surprise for my husband and boys, so I'm glad I got what I'd be happy with too. Since our first cruise on the Radiance this year my boys have been cruise obsessed. Once we decided we were going to the US I just knew I'd regret it if I didn't get on either the Oasis or the Allure because it's unlikely we ever will again.

It's hard to be excited and also try to keep my cool so my family don't get suss. How on earth will I keep it from them for the next 357 days! :o :D

  9. 1. Yes - but the biggest savings will likely to be after final payment - the same sailing last week (6/28) had its lowest prices about 3 weeks before sailing

    2. There will be other sales between now and sailing - but the overall price will likely fluctuate all the way to sailing

    3. Booking in the US will get you all the price drops up till final payment (75 days from sailing)

    4. Don't know

    5. Depends on your priorities - look up the cabin reviews for feedback

I assume you know that pushing your trip into late June will increase both the cruise price and air fares.

Thank you. I checked the conditions and looks like I can get the drops. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of choice in the dates because I need to also fit around school holidays in Australia and the mid-year break for visiting family in Louisiana. Totally get your point though so thanks :)

  10. I'm sure this would be an easy decision for some, but as this cruise would be part of a bigger trip I'm after some advice.

Originally I thought we'd be travelling April/May but we've realised that's not possible so I'm pricing some cruises in June. What I know so far:

    • We definitely want to go on the Oasis
    • I currently have room 10729 on hold
    • From what I read the Eastern itinerary is better
    • The total cost for my family of 4 is pretty expensive even with the BOGOHO sale, as it's part of a much bigger trip to the US - but going on the Oasis is likely to be a once only opportunity for us.

    So my questions are:

    1. Are the fares likely to drop in the next 12 months (there appears to be quite a few categories sold out already)
    2. In your experience would a drop be better than the price with the BOGOHO sale? To give you an idea, it's going to be approx $AU6200.
    3. If I book during the sale will I be eligible to take advantage of any prices drops?
    4. Will I be eligible for the price drop if booked from the Australian site?
    5. Is the room I have on hold a good one?

I did get a quote from a US agent too and including gratuities the price is really not that much different.

Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks

  11. Having stayed in 8084 recently, so walked past the Explorer Lounge everyday, I can tell you with 100% certainty that A Pisces is correct. That thin line on the plan you see between your room and the Centrum is a wall.

The Explorer Lounge is very small and I hardly ever saw anyone there. The only time we sat in that area was to watch entertainment down in the Centrum lounge below.

  12. Here we are at the winter Solstice and my sacrificial lamb has bolted.

Wish I was on the Celebrity Solstice to celebrate.:D

While not the Solstice, my mother called me this morning to say hi before boarding the Eclipse....which at 9 hours behind she's just being picked up at her hotel to head to the port at Southampton right now.
