First off, I love Celebrity, just an observation while on Reflection.

I feel like the brand is in an identity crisis. They advertise to a younger demographic, play modern pop music, advertise a “relaxed luxury resort at sea” etc., but their primary client base is 50+, they are cutting corners and nickel and diming as you would never see at a luxury resort, and their programming onboard is definitely greater toward an older demographic.

It’s very much an anomaly to me. It seems like the older people think Celebrity is going downhill, the young people think it’s too old, and the folks looking for a more upscale experience think it falls short.  Just interesting that they try to straddle so many things, but seems they don’t excel at any of them. Luckily we are younger but prefer a calm environment, good food, good shows, etc., so none of this really bothers us and we enjoy the product.

Glad you still enjoy Celebrity Food and Shows.

We are 6 on Celebrity Acsent.   June 8 to 18th.   We would like to find a private transport from Port to Taormina .  No tour just a pickup and return after a few hours.  Excursions are very pricy and since we are 6 a van split 6 ways is more efficient.   Most on Viator are also pricy and link you with a tour.  I have been there and can do my own tour!!!  We could split up and do a taxi 3 and 3 but not sure how reliable they are.   Help!!

Google taxi ride from Port to Taormina. That is what we are planning to do in May ( cruising with different cruiseline). Estimated cost is about 100 Euros each way for 2-4 people.

I have done this multiple times where I book a refundable deposit onboard then change the ship and sail date to another sailing at the NRD rate (reservation becomes NRD).   You don't have to increase the deposit (unless it's a group rate).   I've never cancelled but since they only have $200 of my money that's all they would get.  Once you are in the penalty period after final payment then the full deposit amount would be lost.

There were reports a few months ago from people I know and trust (Jim included) about losing book onboard OBC when making changes.  I don't think this is supposed to happen and has never happened to me, if it did I'd be escalating to the executive office.

Now I believe the book later bookings where you choose a sailing at a later date may have different conditions where you could lose the associated OBC.   I don't use these as I was burned several years ago by a prior version.

So for your direct question it's my understanding that you could reprice your onboard booking at the NRD prevailing rate/promo and retain the book onboard bonus OBC keeping your $200 deposit and if cancelled prior to final payment you would lose only the $200.

Thank you very much. You just answer my question.

If you accept what was told to you onboard at the time of booking, not sure the reason for your posting.

@Jim_Iainrelated their experience, which which was not satisfactory or so it sounds.

IMO, your next (needed to have been first) move would be to contact X to verify your thoughts/information/concern.

If not satisfied with their response then you can argue it there.

    bon voyage

I am not arguing anything. That is not the point of my posting.

  6. I am sure my question has been discussed on these boards, but I can't find the answer.

We booked a 10 days cruise with RD, paying only $100/ pp deposit while on board in December.

If I to change my reservation to NRD and if I need to cancel - will I be charged $200 or $900? I know that best is just to keep the booking # and move to another cruise and be charged $200. Am I correct?

  7. I don't see how this completely TA's fault. If OP is Elite, that means they cruises with X a lot. NRD vs RD have been around for awhile. So, they should know better to look at their invoice/confirmation and check if what they have booked is agreed to what they want.

One more question: Will choosing seats after payment prompting automatic ticketing or not? We are flying PE both way.  We are 90 days out of cruising. I am thinking that ticketing will complicate any possible changes we might have to do before 45 days cut off time. Is any possible negative issue to delay picking seats and ticketing at a later day? When is the best time to check on possible upgrade to Business class?

    Thank you very much.

  9. Everyone have been so helpful on this topic. Booked my PE flights thru EZ air,  non stop from Mia to FCO on ITA  and back from BCN to MIA on AA. That was a great advice to look into different airport.

The scuttlebutt is that Celebrity is trying to appeal to a younger demographic, and that the customer survey cards from the guest who are new to Celebrity are extremely positive.  This is despite all the changes that us old timers have been complaining about.   If you are younger (say than 50) and tried Celebrity for the first time in the last year or so, I'd love to hear what your impressions were and how the value of the product felt to you, maybe compared to other types or vacations or other cruise brands?

It's fair to compare apples and apples. If someone sailed in regular balcony on  X E class and in Haven on NCL or vice versa, old ship vs new ship, it will be different experience.  Food and entertainment are subjective. After sailing on X for past 15 years exclusively, we tried NCL Haven. I will repeat that experience in the heart beat, but I would not sail on NCL any other way. After our last trip on Equinox past December, we decided not to come back to X this year.  Will be trying Princess and MSC YC. It is all comes down to if you enjoy the cruise, that is all that matters.

  11. Jagoffee,

Thank you very much for looking into different options of flights. It seems that might be the best price is to fly in and out of NY. Still working on it.

I always like to have a control of my bookings. With Celebrity I only booked one way air for TAs, which were cheaper, than booking direct.

Since most airlines are very flexible and allowing flight changes without fees and flight credits, I only use cruise company flights when it is significantly less expensive.  I keep checking until the point where I can no longer change the Cruise Line flights without an additional fee.

Make sure you do not just check two one way fares, especially on international flights.  Check the multi city fares.  I notice the most significant savings with T.A. or T.P. flights  and cruises.  One way International flights is where EZ air usually offers a very significant savings.
I also try to fly a on a Oneworld airlines (preferred AA and non stop or one stop only)..

But I also do not believe that EZ Air or other cruise lines, change from your selected flights to save money.  I believe those changes are initially driven from a change that the airline makes.  Working with a third party (EZ air) adds a level of complexity that may add to confusion.

if I book directly with AA and they make a significant change (hours or cancel), they book me on another flight that their system thinks is better.  If I do not like the change, I find a flight that I like better, call AA, and they change my flight without any additional cost.

If you give us your Cruise ship/date and your originating city, we can show you an example.

    Good luck.

So many configurations to consider. I have by checking EZair for about a month and not many itineraries are satisfactory with 1stop.

Our cruise starts in Rome on May 18, finishing in Barcelona June 1. We would like to arrive May 17. We are planning to spend few days in Barcelona, flying home on June 3

We are flying from Orlando FL.

    Any input greatly appreciated.

  13. We will be flying to Rome and coming back from Barcelona. And were considering getting (prem economy  or Business) flights through Princess. Please share your good or bad experiences doing it. Any suggestions or tips for booking flights are greatly appreciated.
