  1. We did the South American cruise in Feb 2023. Our flight from Santiago was 11:10 pm. We did not use Viking Air but purchased transfers for $59 per person. I could not find out any information about arrangements for late night flights. When we were on board Viking told us that they were working to arrange something for late night flights. On day 3 of the cruise, we received a notice on the arrangements. Viking had a tour of Santiago City with a visit to an Artist sales village. All items were made by Chilean artist such as jewelry, knit and leather goods, painting, etc. We departed the ship about 9 AM. Drive to Santiago was about 1 1/2 hours. We arrived at the Marriott about 2 pm. There was a ball room for Viking guest with pastries, water, tea, coffee. Marriott was selling hot sandwichs with chips and 1 bottle of cold water. Also there was a Marriott restaurant that some people. Also Viking had a luggage hold area in the room. We departed the hotel about 7:30 pm. When we arrived at the airport all luggage was in a holding area with luggage carts. We had made a reservation at the airport hotel. We cancelled the hotel reservation, Holiday Inn Express. We could not get into the room until 3 pm without paying another $225. Decided that $500 to use a room for 5 hours was more than we were willing to pay. Viking did a very good job making arrangements for all of the guest on the late night flights.
  2. Because of our age, O Cruise insurance is cheaper than purchasing through others. When we were younger, we purchased insurance with a 3rd party. Often it was better coverage at a lower price. Also we could cover pre or post tour stays and air flights in 1 insurance policy. Just need to double check what is being quoted. Without my questions about price and what was covered, I would not have all of my trip covered. That could result in problems if I needed to file a claim for cancellation
  3. Thanks for the help. I will let Viking take my picture at the port and my Credit card will be scanned at the port. Viking has my Passport info and other personnel info.
  4. Had TA go back to O. "Yes" I was correct that the addition of the O pre-tour does increase the cost of the insurance. I am being quoted the increased price for the insurance. I want to see an invoice showing Cruise, pre-tour and the insurance before I make a deposit. Next time I may very well just book directly and skip the TA.
  5. We are adding a pre-tour to an O booking. The TA is quoting the same cost for O trip insurance with or without the added O Pre-tour. She states that is the quoted price from O. This does not seem correct to me.
  6. I went to MVJ and my cruise. I could not find a link for Comfort Check-in. Where did Viking hide the Comfort Check-in?
  7. Talk with the Chef about your dietary needs. I seem to remember seeing 1 or 2 options for low/no sugar options.
  8. Thanks to all, especially WNCruiser. This is a very nice update from my last Jupiter cruise.
  9. We will soon be on the Viking Jupiter. Are there USB charging ports on both sides of the bed? 110V Electrical outlets by the bed?
  10. To Request a transfer: click on the Air Transfer hot link (Air Transfer Request) on the Air page in MVJ. You fill out the form and then must email or fax an image of the completed form. We always do our own air (I refuse to have 2 layover and plane changes from Atlanta to Europe.) One connection a cruiseline gave me was ATL to MSP to JFK to Paris. You can request Transfer for arrival or for departure. We usually arrive 1 or 2 days early so we only book the transfer for departure from the ship. Cost has be $49 or $59 per person.
  11. I would request wheelchair assistance through all airports. Are you flying from Nashville? Do you have a connection for your Paris flight? The wheelchair attendants can get you through an airport with no delays. Goo travels.
  12. I agree about the size of the ship and the number of guest the ship can carry. We were on an RCCL super ship 1 time. Had teenagers telling us how awful the inside balcony cabins were. Too noisy for the teenagers. We found it too crowded and way too many nickel & dime such as extra cost for ice cream. Would not want a ship lager then the Riviera.
  13. On our first Oceania cruise, December 2009 to the Amazon; I had to purchase token from guest services for the washers and dryers. Soap was included.
  14. NCLH shareholder "benefits" are NOT combinable with any other offers. There are usually better "Offers" than the NCLH OBC.
  15. We have completed many ocean and river Viking Cruises. Service has always been excellent. We enjoy the variety of food, including the spicy entrees and the salads in the buffet. If we order something from the grill at the pool, we always split the item, such as hamburger or hot dog. We have not purchased the Silver Beverage plan. On Viking the mini refrig in the Penthouse & above are stocked with soft drink and mini bottles of rum, gin, etc. I normally check the wine offered at lunch and dinner. I have sampled the offered wine. If I did not care for the wine, the waiter has always asked why and brought a different wine for me to try. Both O and V have "free" launderettes now. I wonder if I can exchange my O laundry tokes for OBC? On Viking in PH and higher cabins there is "free" laundry no limit on number of bags or items. On Oceania the PH free laundry is limited to 3 bags of 20 items. I have always asked and received a delay in final payment. If you want a Casino or Big shows, Viking is not for you. At this time I would cruise with either O or V. The itinerary is the deciding factor.
  16. Can you take the House select beverage package amenity and then upgrade before boarding. Also is the Select Beverage package only available during lunch and dinner? If you have the Select Beverage package, do you order off the bar menu at dinner? Thanks for all the info and help.
  17. We were opting for the $600 OBC, but TA added our O Club member numbers. We were then eligible for the O Club member discount of 10% off cruise fare which isa better deal for us. Agree, you have to do the math.
  18. Is possible to upgrade the beverage package before you board? Also that brands for beer are available on the Select Beverage package?
  19. I have a cruise booking on "hold" The cruise is part of Oceania's 20th Anniversary Special Offering. 20th Anniversary Sale Celebrate 20 years of Oceania Cruises with a free $600 Shipboard Credit plus OLife Choice offer with 2 for 1 Cruise Fares, Free Roundtrip Airfare with Airport Transfers,* and choose one free amenity: FREE - 6 Shore Excursions FREE - Beverage Package FREE - $600 Shipboard Credit Amenities are per stateroom The invoice shows the beverage package and a Past Guest SBC of $50 per person. The $600 SBC for the 20th Anniversary Sale is NOT shown on the invoice. I expected to find the $600 SBC listed on the invoice.
  20. What are the beverage packages available on Oceania. Also If I choose the "Select" "Free" beverage package amenity can I upgrade to a better package when on board the ship? What is the current cost or the beverage packages?
  21. Thanks for all the replies. It has been about 10 years since I last cruised with Oceania. Just trying to find out what to expect.
  22. Are wine and beer included with lunch and dinner or must you purchase a beverage package?
  23. From the FAQ dated: August 2020 "We have now increased the limit to 6 bottles per stateroom. The exception being the world cruises Any wine consumed in the dining room or a public area will be subject to a corkage fee of $25.00 per bottle." Could we carry glass of wine into the dining room? That is very high. We often cruise with Viking and have never had a corkage fee for Wine we bought on shore and carried to the dining room.
  24. Reading fine print "Free Internet" is for 1 login. Does this mean only 1 device per stateroom receives the "free" internet connection and you must pay extra for other devices? We usually cruise with Viking has are limited to 2 devices in use at a time. WE both have cell phones and carry a small laptop computer. Usually have the computer and 1 of the cell phones logged into Viking internet service with no problems. We use the cell phone to send an receive a few messages from family not to play games or download movies or TV shows. Use computer to backup our photos and check emails daily. Thanks for info on Oceania internet service and cost.
  25. The Viking Longships are on most of the European Rivers. The ships on the Douro, Elbe, and maybe the Seine are different. Look at what is in the space below your cabin or above your cabin. We book a Veranda Suite on the Longship. The shower is much larger and you can easily use a shower stool in that bath. The other benefit are a great bonus for us, but we book for the shower size.
