  1. Last March we walked to the Fish Fry, it takes about 20 minutes.  We walked along with another couple from the ship, but we didn't know them.  As we approached the Fish Fry area a local came to us and promised to take us to the "best" restaurant.  I'm sure he was being paid to steer folks to a specific restaurant.

The other couple followed him, we didn't.  We checked out the restaurants and chose one and had a great meal.  Then we took a cab back to the ship, the cost was less than $15.

Carol – Thanks for going the thread, but did you really need to quote 138 inches of pictures [I measured] in order to add your 8 lines of text that didn't even refer to them?  It was bad enough on my laptop, but people reading on a phone would have worn out their finger scrolling to find you addition!

Quoted pictures is frustrating.  I've long wondered why the forum software even allows it?

Or make it an opt in feature...for those times when it serves a purpose.  But including pictures in replies, by default, is wrong.

You are given cash for 'returned chips'.

Correct.  I knew that, from posts here...just mis-remembered it.

I don't know if NCL has changed their policy.  I only know that on the Breakaway last March they would not give me chips debited against my OBC.  They would be debited against my credit card on file.

As I mentioned, I was hoping to cash out some of the OBC we got as a perk.  It didn't work, we ended up buying liquor and jewelry to use up the OBC.  As a result, we now have a great supply of Sheridan's and tequila which will last us a long time.

I have read that you can take NCL-supplied OBC, exchange it for chips (or whatever they use in the casino), play a couple of hands and cash in, receiving cash, not OBC.  With a 1% fee.  Can anyone confirm that that works?

I tried this last March on the Breakaway.  It did not work.  I tried several different days and was told that any chips would be charged against my credit card on file...not debited from my OBC.  Returned chips would result in a credit to the credit card.

I ended up using the OBC for a few purchases...jewelry, liquor...a few other things that we could take home with us.

But, I usually get some healthy OBC ($500-$1,200) to offset part of that.

We had about $500 OBC last March when we stayed in the Haven.  There are too many restrictions on how you can use the OBC.  We ended up buying about $250 of stuff we really didn't want (mostly alcohol, some jewelry) to use up the OBC.

We had hoped to cash it out in the casino, but they no longer allow that.

Agree Faidleys are good . But living north of Baltimore  my go to place is Boxhill Pizzeria.  They were voted the best crab cakes in the state. Also they are HUGE !

    https://www.boxhillpizzeria.com

Box Hill looks great.  I checked their web site...not sure if it's dine in or only mail order?

BTW, I should note...Faidley's is not a fancy place...I recall some stand up tables...and carry-out of course...but it's not your typical restaurant.

LOL - After 30 years in Maryland, I know how to make great crab cakes. Hint: Old Bay Seasoning isn't in the crab cakes (much less in the kitchen cabinet).

I was hoping someone would post this!

Life-long Marylander, I've made a lot of crab cakes at home and eaten a lot of good crab cakes around the state.  Maybe 15 cruises and I've NEVER had a crab cake on a cruise ship that even comes close to a good Maryland crab cake.

If you want to sample a good Maryland crab cake, and you can get to Baltimore...go here: http://www.faidleyscrabcakes.com

And, as the OP said, they're pretty easy to make at home!

Since we have not been to Nassau before could I ask following form anyone:

    1.  Is is safe and easy walk to do independent walk tour of the distillery, cigar and chocolate tour stops

Last March we felt safe on our walk to Fish Fry.  I did take some precautions...we left our electronics (iPhone, Apple Watch) on the ship and did not take our wallets.  The only thing we took on our walk were our sea/sail pass, state photo ID and about $20 in cash.

I used my laptop at home. I have done quite a bit of online shopping over the last week using my laptop with the same credit card and have not had any issues. Very strange!

Not strange at all...especially after you admit you did "quite a bit" of online shopping last week.

I wouldn't assume that the fraud happened at the last place you used your card...could have been ANYWHERE you shopped in the last year or more.

  10. In March we wanted to walk to Fish Fry for lunch.  Turned out another couple was doing the same, so we walked there with them.

Walk was about 20 to 25 minutes.  When almost there a local started telling us he would take us to the best place to eat.  I'm sure it was a set up.  The other couple went with him, we walked around and selected a place to eat.

I don't recall the name...but we made a good selection.  Had fried conch and fried fish.  It was good.  We mentioned to our waitress that we were interested in taking a cab back to the ship...she went out front with us and called over one of the waiting taxis.  Taxi driver was lots of fun...and he quickly and safely got us back to the ship.  I think the cab fare was about $15.

  11. My filters are a bit different.  My Content Types is restricted to the four forums I read, you're set to everything.  My Read Status is unread, yours is everything.

I found that using Ownership to follow "Live From" threads was tedious to set up and maintain.  It strikes me that you're using Following to read specific threads.  Perhaps it would be easier to use Content Items I Follow to read "Live From" threads.  I'll give it a try.

If the first setting in an Activity Stream is "Content items only", then you'll only get one mention of any particular thread. I suspect that's how most of us will have set up most Activity Streams; in any event, it is easily possible to set it up like that.

The problem in this case is that the Activity Stream created by Paul from Maryland is intended to pick up every post made by the member in question, and if the stream's setting is "Content items only" then it will only show threads started by that member. So to make that work, it has to show every post made by the member, even if there's more than one in the same thread.

My most recent question, about multiple entries, is not the activity stream that tracks one user.  Just a general purpose activity stream to track the four cruise line forums that I follow.  I will switch it back to "content items only".  Pretty sure I had it that way before...but while doing some testing it got switched around.

Thanks, guys, for the help.  Appreciate it.

You're welcome! Like POA1, I haven't found the terminology here as intuitive as I would have liked.

My adjusted Activity Stream is working well.  One question...see below...see how there are two entries for the same message thread.  One posted 9 minutes ago, the other 11 minutes ago.

I wonder if there is any way to get just one listing of a message thread?

Replies to threads are "comments." That's the most likely issue you were having. I had it to, thinking - logically, or so I assumed - that "content" would cover everything.

Thanks!  And thanks to Globaliser for the initial info.  It's only been a few hours...but just now this particular Activity Stream worked correctly.

A couple of things to check:-

First: is the first setting in your Activity Stream for "Content items, comments, and reviews"?

Second: when you use the "Find Content" feature, are the items listed are in (descending) chronological order?

These are two things that I can immediately think of that might give a mismatch between the results in the Activity Stream and the results from "Find Content".

I was using Content only because this user, as far as I know, does not post comments or reviews.  Perhaps the key is comment, I don't know how this site differentiates between a content item and comment item.  I've changed to Content items, comments and reviews and it seems to have fixed the problem.

As for chronological order, I'm using "newest first" and they do seem to be in chronological order.

Any guess why they don't offer a Find content by keyword?

  16. I'm finding that Activity Streams can not be trusted.

I use one Activity Stream to follow content posted by a specific member.  Day after day I find that the Activity Stream will show different content than I find by hovering over the user's avatar and using the "Find Content" feature.

I use one Activity Stream to find new content on the four forums I follow.  Given the example above, how do I know it's finding all the content?

I use one Activity Stream for following "Live from" threads.  It's proving to be tedious to update the "Find content by specific member" to make this workable.  Also, given the first example, how do I know it is accurate?  What I would love to have is a "Find content by keyword" where keyword means a word or phrase contained in the thread title.  I could create an Activity Stream to search for "Live" or "Live from" to find those threads.

$10-$15 per person per day? Lol!!!

Maybe some folks can afford that, or think it's appropriate...but I think it is WAY too much.

We've had a Haven room, with its butler and concierge, twice.  I used some old tipping guidelines, along with some math...to figure out how much tip the room steward gets per day.  I used that as a base for tipping the butler and concierge.  So two cruises, four tips (butler X 2, concierge X 2).  We adjusted some tips up, some down, according to what we felt was appropriate.

One the first Haven cruise, we tipped the Haven restaurant maitre D.  He made each of our visits to the Haven restaurant special...he deserved a nice tip.  On the second Haven cruise, same deal for the hostess at the Haven restaurant -- she also deserved a nice tip.

  18. I think it would be useful if one could use a search item as one of the variables when setting up an Activity Stream.

For example, the "Live from..." message threads are very popular.  It would be a great feature if one could set up an Activity Stream for finding the "Live from..." message threads.

This wouldn't work for those that don't use the word "Live" in their thread title...but most do use "Live" and maybe we could encourage everyone to do so.

How do you search on a members posts?  That's fascinating

bluemarble is right, you can create an Activity Stream to do many things...one is to search for posts by a specific member.

Activity Streams can be a bit tricky to set up...there are seven or eight options to set.

I'm using Activity Streams to consolidate the posts from the four cruise lines I follow in to one window.  Also using them to follow the posts of one specific member (a Cruise Critic member that I find interesting).

Activity Streams are, in my view, the best feature of this new software.  Give it a try...many of us are learning and experimenting and will be around to answer any questions you might have.
