  1. When Arnold Donald first took over, there was a press release where he stated that he wanted to combine loyalty programs. We see what happened to that!

    Now RCI is a different matter, as they have less cruise lines. Thus, being "Elite" on Celebrity, I joined the RCCL C&A society and instantly became "Diamond", and I have yet to sail them!

    Now let's look at this to extremes. Let's say you are "Platinum" on CCL, and I am Platinum on Cunard. What level would you expect to be on Cunard, and don't even think of saying "Platinum". I'm not a snob, and not bragging, but on my over a dozen Cunard cruises including 3 TAs, I have probably spent as much as over 30+ CCL cruises. One alone was $15,000, and not in a suite either. Thus, some can view it not just as "points", but $$$$$ spent.

    Frankly, I would resent a CCL Platinum to become Platinum on Cunard.

    If you want to try the upscale CCL brands, then just go on them, and if you like them, then continue to establish your points.

    Now, if I went on CCL, based on my Cunard status, I would expect to become Platinum instantly! However, the reverse will not work.

    I do not understand how some "perks" will get someone to try another cruise line in the family, especially if that line costs 2-4++ times more, and with Cunard, demands proper evening dress (bring a suit or tux, guys).

    RCI is one thing, but I do not see this happening with Carnival.

    Nomex suit on! :D

    My last crossing on QE2 I was forced to pay an extra $6 because they had the nerve to move me from a MO to a QO LOL:D

  2. just another example of Carnival's "race to the bottom". There has been, over the past several years, a steady decline in services. Rather than asking for, they would have done better, if passengers would have declined services.

    Carnival used to be cheapest and the best value

    definitely not the best value

    not necessarily the cheapest

  3. I love when people blow off the savings as no big deal. Means one person less out there trying to get them. They can go ahead and keep paying full price. Me i'm going to enjoy the savings as much as I can. The points are free and at the hunt is fun. It's actually gotten easier as of late.

    The only problem with this deal its on CCL LOL :D

  4. I am also interested in this and would love to know about how much it will cost to go to Puerto Plata and if any of the Taxi's take credit card.

    I have not seen a Credit Card machine in any cab in Puerto Plata I usually sit in the front seat i always pay in pesos but cabs accept dollars

  5. This is just our opinion, but my husband and I compiled a review of our RC Oasis of the Seas cruise two weeks ago on our blog. We usually sail Carnival, so much of this review compares Oasis to our recent experiences on Carnival, particularly the Breeze (which we sailed in 2013 and 2014). Hope it's helpful!

    Oasis = Buick

    CCL= Yugo

    :D :D

  6. Yes, not a large base. But the same person popping up in each thread about a cutback to say 'Well, it doesn't matter to me, and it sucked anyway, it shouldn't matter to you, they are a for profit business, yadda yadda yadda' doesn't help. If people don't care they are welcome to state their opinions, but to continually reinforce them in such a way as to downplay the opinions of others who are impacted certainly isn't going to help anything.

    Do *I* like lobster? No. Does my wife? yes. Do we regularly go out for lobster? No. Hardly ever. It's a cruise tradition / cruise treat. Carnivals making the experience more like Motel 6. Well, at Motel 6 they leave the light on for you. I guess this is more like Motel 5.

    Motel -6 :D
