  1. So I don't understand... why you would tip someone who didn't even do the expected basic service you paid for?

Because they still provided a service, just not good enough to warrant 20%. I can afford the small percentage and don't want to potentially have their kid hungry that night because of a parents shortcoming.

    whatever will bewilder me

  2. Simple question (I hope). How much do you tip for excursions? Country, activity, length, cost. Do those effect what you tip?

I always do 15%-20% of the cost of the tour per person. That percentage depends on if there is a driver or if the guide is our driver. I've done 10% as well when the guide wasn't really as involved and focussed on their phone instead of our questions.

    whatever will bewilder me

  3. For some of us it was valuable information. The OP clearly identified the topic in the title of the thread, you could have just as easily passed on by but instead you became the 3rd highest contributor to a "worthless, annoying and repetitive..." thread. Your words not mine.

It's not valuable I formation on the Celebrity board though. Like I said next time someone finds any cruise cheaper than a celebrity cruise they start posting about it? The boards are already cluttered as it is and we don't need these nonsense posts getting added to the mix, so I voiced my opinion. It appears the mods agreed with me since they moved the post. If the person came and said how they got a Celebrity cruise at a lower cost to an inferior line like RC, CCL, or NCL it would be newsworthy to post on the Celebrity board.

If it was left up it would set a precedent for everyone to post about cheaper deals on other lines. If that is such valuable news to you and others, why not go research the prices on the line and compare?

    whatever will bewilder me

  4. The above post is worthless, annoying and repetitive according this reader but it may be of value to other CCers' so I will not complain endlessly about its shortcomings and clutter this board further. :)

If it needs to be removed completely or just moved to the worthless posts board, I'll let the Real Moderators do that. :D

Looks like the mods agreed with my post that was "worthless, annoying and repetitive..."

  5. Just because it isirrelevant to you does not mean it is irrelevant to other CCers (See the other posts thanking the OP) or does only your version of relevance count? If you find a thread irrelevant to you, notify the Moderators or move on without comment and avoid more of the clutter you are so worried about on this board.

Look at this wannabe moderator trying to approve posts and rationalize relevancy.

Since to you it's ok to make worthless posts, at what point do they become annoying and repetitive?

  6. I did not point you out as a wannabe What I said was "BTW, Ignore all the wannabe Mods around here." Some of the others posters are Moderator wannabes who want to edit the subject of what the OP posts. You can debate the relative merits of each line all you want but some of the replys to the OP were;

."This boards for Celebrity, we are all well aware of prices."

"In my opine, there is no need or requirement to post here on the X board about your experience or etc. on other lines...."

    i.e Moderator wannabes.

As for penance, let's go together. ;)

How was pointing out that the post by the OP irrelevant me wanting to be a wannabe moderator?

I just like coming to the board that isn't cluttered with nonsense that means nothing to Celebrity. What's next everyday we start getting posts about how someone booked a cruise cheaper than Celebrity? It would become redundant very fast, and accepting this post as good information sets a precedent for allowing the boards to be flooded with these kinds of nonsense posts.

If not wanting that for these boards makes me a wannabe moderator than I guess I'm a wannabe.

This should be a place to discuss Celebrity Cruises and changes and questions regarding Celebrity. If someone comments in a post about price differences, that's great, thanks for the info, but we don't need posts about it. If you've made it to cruise critic you're well aware of the cost comparisons between the at the least the bigger mainstream lines.

  7. I enjoyed a private seaplane tour in Ketchikan flying through Misty Fjords.

Another tour that I loved and think of as one of my favorites was in Kusadasi going to Ephesus, Terrace houses, Temple of Artemis(at least what's left of it), Mary's house, and Sirince. That was an amazing day that I'm happy we got to do before all the cruise lines started cancelling Turkey.

  8. I was charged $4 per day plus gratuity to do this on two different ships.

We had the classic alcohol and they said you can downgrade it to the classic non alcohol for free and then pay the $4 plus gratuity to upgrade to the premium non alcohol.

It didn't make sense as the classic alcohol is more expensive, but we were told this is the only way it can work so it was done.

The ships were the Constellation and Silhouette.

  9. As far as the internet packages, we usually just buy one package and share it. It means only one person can be online at a time but that is not a big deal for us and saves some money. In your choices you mention the $300 in OBC, the bev package and the internet package, what about pre-paid grats? Some times that is a good deal, better than either of the beverage package options and on par with internet.

In this case the grats wouldn't be a good deal. Let's say they are in a concierge or aqua class cabin. Grats are $14 a day so with 2 that would be $28 per day. That $28 × 7 would equal $196. All the options offer more value than that. If they are in a Balcony or oceanview the grats are $13.50 per day so even less value.

Grats become a good deal when your cruise is 12+ nights long as it then becomes more than the $300 OBC. Anything 11 nights or less it's not worth picking grats unless you don't care about the internet and know your drink bill will be less than what the cost of grats is.

  10. Since the Classic Alcohol costs more than the Premium Non Alcohol where does the $4 charge come in? Many have reported success in downgrading the Classic Alcohol Package to the Premium NonAlcohol at Guest Service once on the ship but others haven't been able to downgrade. So not a sure thing.

Have you downgraded and been charged?

Twice now this has been done with someone I've been cruising with.

Guest services told us the Classic alcohol package can only become the classic non alcoholic package. Once you downgrade to the non alcohol you then upgrade to the premium non alcoholic package. The difference between those two are $4. That's why it is $4 per person per day.

Again this has been done on my last two cruises. Once on the Constellation and the other on the Silhouette. Both cruises within the last 6 months.

  11. You can change from the classic alcohol to the premium non alcohol for $4 per person per day plus the 18% gratuity. So you can get the drink package you want for both of you for $66.08 total if you select that package.

To purchase internet for both of you will be around $300 which is pretty much the OBC, but that's hoping the offer the buy one get one half off.

I'd take the drinks and internet as the perk and forget about the OBC. This way it guarantees internet for both of you, and the drinks you'd want.

The drinks or internet would immediately wipe out the OBC you selected and may end up costing you additional money. Unless I'm missing something drinks and internet definitely seem to be the best for you.

  12. Good choice with Celebrity.

I was a very loyal cruiser with Carnival but now CCL seems more expensive to me than X does.

I'd still go on CCL and like it, but X has become my new go to with how CCL has been raising prices and not offering as high of a quality service in my opinion.

That good to know about X gift cards too, but I do believe their GCs are only allowed to be used for bookings and not on board. At least that's how it was last year and earlier this year.

When did your Reflection cruise in Oct/Nov of 16 end?

I was on the Constellation in November of 16 and he was our CD for that sailing. He may really be a spaceman if he was in two places at once.

  14. Thanks for the great food suggestions!! Does anyone know of there is sushi in the buffet in the evening? Also, any Calamari served in MDR? What items are served in the grill/poolside BBQ?

I've seen sushi a few nights, I don't know about calamari, and the bbq has burgers(regular, Turkey, veggie), hot dogs, and fries.

  15. The future cruise person on Carnival is annoying. They have 1 person at a tiny kiosk who is more interested in you signing up for a credit card. The miniscule amount of OBC they offered wasn't worth waiting in the line to someone who didn't even seem interested in what you're inquiring about.

Celebrity does this much better. They have a team all at their own desk who will discuss destinations with you in-depth, and help you figure out what itinerary is what you're looking for. They also encourage and help you book phantom bookings if you can't decide. They are also fully refundable up until final payment.

  16. Especially when you can get one of those kind, wonderful, and generous folks from Canada to bring along some of their 100% pure maple syrup. :p

I bought some last time I went up north and have half a bottle left and can't seem to use because I don't want to run out. I have no current plans to go back to Canada, but I may need to do a syrup run.
