  1. Just got off of the Equinox two weeks ago. I enjoyed the Tuscan, didn't get a chance to do Murano. For the first time the food in the Tuscan was below quality. The steak had no flavor, was tough, just didn't like it. I had a side of mashed potatoes and there were 4 small forkfuls of potatoes. Creme Brulee was my dessert and it was good, no great but good.

I found the MDR food to be terrible. I ate there almost every night because the Oceanview was worse than the MDR.

  2. I have been a solo cruiser for the last 12 years. I have 57 cruises under my belt, of which 6 are Alaska. I am a Leave Me Alone Cruiser. I love to read and do quiet things so doing any kind of pre or post cruise just doesn't interest me and I think would appeal to couples and families, not doing it by myself.

I found lots of shore excursions on each Alaska cruise that kept me entertained, interested and learning new things. I have contacted the shore excursion department by email to ask their opinion on what excursions would be good for a solor cruiser. You might want to try that.

  3. I use a scooter on every cruise and ALWAYS get a handicapped cabin. I have taken over 50 cruises. One time, about 6 years ago, I made a mistake and got a regular cabin, my scooter didn’t fit in the cabin. I asked guest services if I could put my scooter somewhere over night and was told they couldn’t put it any where but in my cabin. I had to park it in my bathroom, which I couldn’t use when the scooter was in the bathroom. On cruise line websites it states wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, etc., must be in the passengers rooms. In a handicapped cabin there is a plug on the wall right by the bathroom door. You can turn your scooter around by the bed. In a standard cabin there isn’t any room to turn your scooter around. Hope this helps. Candie

  4. I will never sail Cunard. I have been waiting for a full refund of a cruise that was booked almost two years ago. I cancelled the cruise the first of March and I have seen small amounts of money be returned to me but they still owe me more. This is 120 days (4 months) and what Cunard said is everything is being refunded piece meal, a little here and a little there. My flight that was booked through them is still on American Airlines as I am taking it. I have called and called, asking them to cancel the flight and refund my money and so far nothing has happened.

This isn't a prestige cruise line if they can't take care of their passengers.

  5. Who am I to dispute such a learned and experienced colleague. Please suffer my novice opinion of this. NCL has been on a journey over the past few years with an IPO establishing NCLH and the acquisition of Prestige Cruises which includes Oceania and Regent and with that and the departure of Mr. Sheehan. It appears NCL has improved it's quality in most if not all areas. While we are in no way cruise loyalist who take "breaks" from cruise lines to try something else, we are relatively experienced and objective. Princess is a good line, however, there isn't enough space between their level of service and Norwegian's to see any daylight. Telling an inexperienced person that NCL is a low end company only demonstrates your lack of experience and objectivity. Yes, there are profit centers on NCL ships, but CCL, RCCL and others have the same thing. Yes a Trans Atlantic might not be the best way to experience a new line, but that would go for any line. Princess included.

    WillandTam,

Thank you for your learned opinion of my post. Since I have only taken 45 cruises, I bow to your esteemed an d superior knowledge of cruise lines. I will say I was only quoting thousands of reviews and posts about NCL and Princess. I sail equally between Royal, Norwegian and Princess and love all three. Each has their low and high points. Again, thanks for setting the record straight about my review.

  6. I agree that for some reason certain people feel they must tear apart a CC member's post. Someone always feels they are smarter or know more about the subject than the poster. This person was just being kind and giving a warning to people who are planning to travel through Heathrow, which was very nice of them.

The TSA's website does state that prescription medication must be in the original packages, which I take to mean bottles, boxes, any container that is the original packaging with the information on the package.

Here is what the TSA website said:

    • Medications in their original packages. Bring only the amount of medication you will need. Prescription medications have to be under the traveler's name.

I have been stopped once when entering from Canada to the U.S. and had to empty my carry on and they inspected my prescriptions. The TSA agent told me he sure was glad that they were in the correct prescription bottles, because if they weren't I would be stopping at another checkpoint for further inspection.

The TSA has no control in any foreign country, only the U.S. but when you enter into the U.S. the TSA is in control, whether you are coming from London, Vancouver, or Singapore.

Thank you for your warning POSTER about the problems with prescription medication, I for one, really appreciate it.

  7. I have just returned from the 11/11/17 Escape cruise and here is a list of officers:

    Giovanni Cutogo, Captain

Jovo Sekulovic, Hotel Director. Jovo told me he is going on vacation in 5 weeks and then will be on the new Bliss.

    Marc Spijkerboer, Asst. Hotel Director

Kivanc Ucar, Food & Beverage Director

    Ferdinand Tolentino Fandialan, Executive Housekeeper

Tyler Gray, Cruise Director. Tyler has put in for the Bliss but as of my cruise date had not heard whether he was being moved.

    Nomita Rambhunjan, Guest Services Manager

    Prejith Poovapadathil, Executive Chef

    Tanberg D'Souza, Restaurant Manager

    Jose Contreras, Beverage Manager

    Kimberly Bennett, CruiseNext Manager.

According to Jovo, many of the department and assistant department heads are hoping for a transfer to the new Bliss but most have not heard whether they will be moved.

  8. Uniall,

This is what happens when I go out of town for two days, I forget everything I did before I left.

When someone answers, I will be glad to post all the officers names when I get back. That is what I did on my last Escape cruise.

I know about them using the ships for supplies. I was so proud to read that about the different cruise lines that did that.

I always do invitations for the M&G to the officers. I think it just adds a nice touch.

    Thanks for your help.

  9. I have rented a scooter four times. It depends what port but is usually at least $200. There are several things to think about, no crew member is allowed to help with the scooter, trying to get it up or down the gangway, etc. It has to be in your cabin, not in the hallway. If you leave it in the hallway you can come out of the cabin and find it gone. Even in an accessible cabin there is limited room for the scooter. Another problem many excursions don't allow them. Also in a port where you take a tender from the ship to the port you can't take a scooter.

  10. I requested a topper on my Enchantment cruise in March and was emailed by Special Needs RCI no longer supplied them. It was suggested that I contact my room steward for assistant, which I did, and he took 2 extra mattress pads and it worked.

Did the same on my Explorer May cruise and there was a topper but the cabin steward told me when one needs deep cleaning it is thrown out.

I think eventually it will be phased out.

I agree that we pay a huge amount for a cruise but if you can't get the basic service for me to sleep comfortably, I shouldn't have to pay for that service. A hotel doesn't charge the customer for the basic necessity of being comfortable when you sleep.

I know disposable is expensive but the cruise lines have to come up with help for the customer.

More and more the lines keep taking away from the customer and to me that isn't acceptable. Cruising is a service industry, start treating the customer as if we are the most important asset the cruise line has.

  11. I have taken 30 cruises and 24 are solo. I love not having anyone to wait for, to answer to, spend time coordinating schedules, etc.

I always do MDR, the earliest time. I ask for a large table. I have met several couples and solos who we have scheduled cruises together again.

You can get a table where you just don't fit in, you can change your table.

I usually eat at a specialty restaurant 1 or 2 nights and very seldom eat at the buffet.

Same with the shows, most of the time I am invited to go with a couple from the MDR.
