  1. I was on an NCL about 8 months ago and I had to fill out paperwork and they chose my debarkation time. They went by the time of my flight, which was at 1145 am, and I was off the ship at 830 am. I purchased transfers from NCL too. Maybe they have changed the way they are doing disembarkation.

  2. The cruise line will leave paperwork in your cabin for you to fill out about your return home flight time, usually about 3 days before the cruise ends. When you hand that in, you will be given luggage tags with a certain color or number on it for your disembarkation time. For passengers with flight before 12 pm you usually disembark around 8 am. For passengers that have flights from 12 to 3 pm you usually disembark at 9 am, sometimes 930 am.

Cruise line transfer buses run until 10 am from the cruise port. NCL will shuttle your from either Miami or FLL, so you can fly into either airport. That is the only way I get from the airport to the cruise terminal and return. It is the cruise lines responsibility, when you purchase a transfer, to get you to the airport on time. You have to wait for the bus to become full before they will leave, so sometimes you have a 15 to 20 minute wait.

I usually fly into Fort Lauderdale, even if I am sailing from Miami, because my flight is less expensive to FLL. The transfer runs about $45 round trip.

  3. I have taken at least 20 cruises out of both ports and I prefer FLL. My reasons are usually the cost to fly from Dallas to Miami or Dallas to FLL, Miami is always at least $100 or more for the round trip flight. When I weigh that against the $45 round trip transfer fee that the cruise line charges I still come out ahead by $50. I find Miami is harder and busier to get around then FLL.

With all of that said, if your air is the same for both airports then I would fly in to Miami so you don't have to worry about making it to and from the cruise port to make your flight.

  4. Using the term CERTIFIED dog is a questionable term. I went online to five different places, and there were over 1,000 of them, and here is what it said about certifying your dog.

"We expect and hope that you will use this registry as intended and in a responsible and respectful manner. Registration is conducted under the honor system and we are not required to verify any disability or review any documentation to verify any disability, nor does any law require you to register, any individual found to abuse this registry will be expelled from the registry. The registry is not intended to be a certification process and we do not judge the proficiency of our registrants in any way, and nor would that be necessary under the law. Of course, we recognize that under the law you are allowed to train your own animal and we can not be responsible or liable for the actions of dog owners or their dogs either online or offline. Please obey all laws as they apply to your situation."

So in other words you can go to the first five I looked up and register your dog to be certified as a service dog or an emotional support dog. You do have to pay for the certificate or identification card but they don't check you or the dog to see if it really is trained as a service dog. What a sad situation the USA is in when you can just lie, pay $50 and get your dog certified so you can take it with you wherever you want.

I am sorry this is so sad to me. Believe me I have a mini dachshund that I dearly love but when I am cruising he stays with friends who have two dogs and I know he is well taken care of.

When i saw that toy poodle in a dress, shoes and a hat, with a doggie diaper on and he was being carried every where, that was it, I had to stop the man and ask why he was on the ship. I was told he was an emotional support dog, sure he was, because you would have been an emotional wreck if you had to leave the dog at home when you went on your cruise.

    Shame on these people!!!!

  5. I have been a solo cruiser for about 8 years and when I am looking for a cruise I will always get the rate for the cabin I want for two people, then I get the rate for a solo cruiser and it is always 150% of the cruise price. In other words, if the cruise for two is $1000 I will pay almost $1500 for the same cruise. Holland American and Celebrity have charged up to 200% for a solo cruiser. You can do it yourself to see how they really overcharge the solo traveler, just go to any line and do a mock booking for two then for one and you will see the difference.

What is even worse, I am handicapped and there is an upcharge for an accessible room. I was looking at a cruise yesterday on Royal and for a Ocean View cabin, regular, it was $1500 for just me, when I put in I wanted an accessible, the price jumped for the cabin to $1800. I think that is terrible, I get stabbed in the back two times for being a solo and handicapped cruiser.

  6. Train man-2,

You are incorrect about ships under foreign flags are not regulated by ADA. There was a court case against Carnival, registered in the Bahamas, who lost the case because Carnival said because of the foreign flag they don't have to follow ADA and the courts ruled against Carnival because they sail in to American ports.

  7. I just got off the Explorer with a couple who carried around a toy poodle dressed in a full outfit with shoes and a hat. They claimed he was an emotional support animal. That is crap, they just wanted the dog with them.

I think the cruise lines should be able to see proof that an animal is a service dog before allowing animals on the ship.

  8. I have been a solo cruiser for about 5 years. No cruise line caters to solo cruisers. NCL does have a little cheaper cabins but not by much.

On many lines I have found the regular cabins are cheaper then the single cabins.

  9. Wouldn't do it! You are not taking several things in to consideration .

What if the ship is late to port, what if Customs takes a long time to clear the ship, what if there is in an accident going to the airport? I just got off of a ship and customs held us up an hour late, hundreds and hundreds of passengers were lined up for self disembark and said it took about an hour to get off. Most cruise lines say 11 or 1130 for the earliest flight.

  10. All handicapped cabins are close to the elevators, not all, but most. I always asked for an accessible cabin by the elevator, it seems everything is much closer when you are near them. I have never had a problem with noise because you still have to move away from the elevator banks and go either right or left to get the cabin hallways, so there is a little distance and very little noise. I get more noise from kids who are allowed to run up and down the hallways.

  11. upward U.K,

That is not a walker it is a small scooter.

I am handicapped and use a scooter or walker. I have taken over 30 cruises and a walker doesn't work in a regular cabin. The 4" step into the bathroom, can 't get into it, getting to the balcony with a walker is hard. It doesn't matter where the bed is, with a walker you can't get to the top of the bed.

Don't get me started on people that book handicapped cabins and aren't handicapped.

It is wrong, there are only a minimal amount of ADA cabins, so many more of other categories.

  12. I have never heard of any cruise line extending final payment. You need to call and talk to them but if they won't you need to get your money back and three days later call and reserve again and pay in full.

    Good luck.

  13. I got on the Explorer on May 26 and the terminal was a zoo. Uber, taxis and shuttle buses all waited in a line to approach the terminal. The shuttles were allowed ahead of Uber and taxis. I am handicapped and stood outside the terminal from 1130 am until I got on the ship at 4 pm. No wheel chair availability, no bathrooms, if you got out of the line you lost your place, nothing to hydrate yourself.

I wrote a letter to Adam Goldstein and have heard back. Hopefully changes will be made.
