If you go on an organized tour, which generally allow 60-75 minutes, it is tight. I did it with my 79 year old mother (no mobility concerns, just walks slower than me)...one mile out and one mile back, took us about an 50-60 min total with about 10 min at the actual falls for photos. Add 10 min at the first lookout point ( as far as a lot of the less mobile folks go...fyi the one mile out starts here), and 5 min in the visitor centre. Good quality trail with mild up and down sections. I felt a bit rushed as i would have liked to go to the photo point and actually read the information in the visitor centre/watch the short movie as well but didn't have time.

Glad you had a great time. Maybe someday I will be able to avail myself of those elite breakfasts and cocktail hours!
Hope you had a good time here in Vancouver....sorry about the rainy weather today...

Hi, Glad you had good weather in Juneau and Ketchikan - hope we are as lucky!
The Captains on Celebrity are like that - they are in the Cafe and around the ship and mingle with the guests. Capt. George did mention his kids to us - but maybe they are soon back to Greece for the start of school?
Hope you enjoyed your first cruise and have now gotten the bug!

We will.definitely be cruising again!
The Captain's wife appeared to be from the UK and she and the boys spoke with british accents.
Re ICP we also had customs issues and just made it ashore by 4 pm for our private tour. We went to the Rendezvous at 2:15 and got tickets for tender 1 (that is tender 1 after the elites and people with celebrity shore excursions). At 3:45 it became clear we would not make it so we hung around on deck 5 near the card room, which was being used to hold the elite cruisers, and when they were called about 3:50 the lady let us go right afterward when we explained the situation. We got to our tour just in time, although ended up waiting 30 min for the other six people who were also on our tour who got off on tender 1!
Also docked 20 min late in Ketchikan and our tour guide (this time a Celebrity tour) said he hasn't seen the Century dock on time this season as the Princess ship always is supposed to sail at 1:30 but always leaves late.

Loving your review...we got off Century on Aug 3!. Spent many nights at the Martini Bar...Ardemis the waiter was great! We had absolutely no rain on Juneau and Ketchikan days....amazing!
This was my first cruise and was surprised one morning as I sat in the buffet alone for a late breakfast and realized Captain George was sitting at the next table having breakfast with his wife and two small boys!

There were four preteen kids on our tour and their dad asked them if they liked it and they said yes.
As for shopping its the usual.tourist stuff and a LOT of jewelry stores in both Juneau and Ketchikan. We killed three hours in stores and later realized we didnt even get to creek street so I was glad we had seen it on the tour.

Duck tour was great although we had a beautiful sunny day and I am not sure I would want to do the boat part in the rain haha. Guide has corny humor and funny bad jokes but was knowledgeable about the area as he was born there. Duck whistles for sale $3.
-
DH suggested we just spend the day on our own, exploring an Alaskan town. We talked about it and decided to do the Duck tour which is only 1.5 hrs and could give us a little info on the area and photo ops.
We are going next week and doing the DUCK tour at 2:30 on Aug 1. I will let you know how it goes!

It is a lovely walk around to the inner harbour from Ogden point (where you dock) for the views of all the boats, marina etc., the BC Parliment buildings and its grounds, the Royal BC Museum (which will be closed), the Fairmont Empress hotel, Laurel point park. Restaurants and shops will be open late in tourist season. Buttchart gardens and Butterfly gardens will be closed that late in the day though.

Using Rogers. I assume if data roaming is off or the phone (samsung galaxy s2) is in airplane mode I am ok while at sea to still use it to take photos? Can you receive calls while in airplane mode and will there be charges if i do not answer? Any experiences with getting a US talk and text plan for use in the ports? Thanks.

Thanks. As I said previously we are are NOT bothered by the upgrade fee as she will get more than her $84 worth in special coffee and the odd glass of wine. The classic portion was free so no money lost. This is not an issue. It also gives her freedom to try non alcoholic slushy drinks and smoothies etc that she would not normally try.
I really only want to know if anyone has had an actual experience where they were able to transfer a bev package at the start of the cruise to someone else onboard that sailing. Please if anyone has that specific info I would appreciate your input.
We will ask once we board. If they say no...no problem.
-
Or so the travel agent told us....anyhow it is done. More wondering if we can transfer it. Thanks.
-
We both had to upgrade as it was a promo/free.
-
My cabin mate and I got the wave promo for the free classic alcohol package. I wanted to upgrade to premium even though she doesn't drink much if at all, which she agreed to as it was only $82 approx.
Now there is a third in our party who is booked in an inside cabin single occ, but could not get the wave promo (ocean view and above only). We are wondering if we all go to guest services after boarding can we have the non drinkers premium package transfered to the person in the inside cabin? Any experience with this kind of situation is appreciated thanks.

I am travelling with a sushi addict, and being from the the west coast of Canada we are serious about our sushi. Can someone tell me if it is available onboard, for both lunch and dinner at the buffet, and the quality? Thanks.

ozziebound...just noticed you are going on Century...the weather should clear up by sunday for your departure and cruise out of the inner harbour. I am booked for July 27. Let us all know how your cruise goes!
-
Looks nice! Despite the ONE rainy day we have had here of late...:(
-
Yes I realize that, my point was to show that it is not always day 2 and day 6. It depends on the itinerary. I got to this old post by searching "Century" as would many others, including those going to alaska this summer. :)
-
Oh and the train will be busy too...BUT if you are getting off the ship in the mid morning and heading south to the airport you will be going in the opposite direction to the thousands of people coming to downtown for the parade!
-
I am going on Century July 27 to Alaska, and have been told on this site that formal nights are night 2 (inside passage cruising northbound) and day 4 (hubbard glacier cruising). MAkes sense as the other days we are in port until very late and it won't be the last night as they want everyone packed and the bags outside the doors as early as possible.
-
We live in Vancouver and will be on the same cruise, july 27 to aug 3. I would like to let everyone know that on Sunday AUgust 3rd is the annual Gay pride parade in downtown Vancouver. The actual parade route is on the other side of the downtown core, but it will be extra busy in general, and then add on the 2000 departing passengers and the 2000 embarking passengers for the Century. To make it worse, the HAL Statendam is also in port at Canada Place that day. Cabs will be BUSY. There will be traffic conjestion in the downtown core and possibily delays and closed streets due to the parade route. TAKE the SKYTRAIN! Even without traffic delays you easily get the airport faster than driving. And when I say you get to the airport, I mean it goes literally right to the airport departures/arrivals.

Who knows? As long as the cabin number is correct on the tags, I wouldn't worry about it. Just put some of yours on her bags.
Yes that is what i figured. Thanks.
-
Yes both names show on the reservation. Perhaps her's will come in a separate mailing. A third member of our party in a second cabin also got his tags today.
-
Thanks for the report...we are booked the last week of July. We have also booked with Hoonah Travel adventures in Icy Strait Point for whale watching.
What nights were formal and how formal was the dress? Thanks.
Beverage package transfer?

no dice, not possible.
But two evenings in the MDR the somellier noticed that two persons had a package and the third person did not, and he was nice enough not to charge the third person for his glass of wine (same as ours) and just run it through on our package. He was tipped accordingly.
Highly recommend the package for the freedom of not having to sign and worry about overspending. We broke even maybe 4 days, but others had to "dry out" lol. The person without the package had approx a $400 bar bill for 7 days which was wine with dinner each night, and a beer and a martini or two each day.
