  1. Always love your reviews. Usually find them just before I am about to sail on that ship. But you're too late this time! [emoji12] We were on the Epic for its last western Mediterranean run this year. Then we moved over to the Jade for her transatlantic. I must say even though we enjoyed our cruise on her, I won't be looking to specifically book another trip on her unless the itinerary is right. She is too big and not really built for viewing the sea from. Just our opinion. [emoji846]

  2. re name tags

on 10 NCL cruises can't recall one where the ship provided name tags for the meet and greet

the organiser of the meet and greet however has brought along name badges which varied from simple adhesive labels to creative ones which have kept as a souvenir

When I've organised the meet and greet have brought along blank labels and marker pens so people can fill in their own names

On my recent transatlantic on the Jade, the group services coordinator did have name tags prepared for us. They said cruise critic on them and we were to write in our own names. One of the participants had already made tags already though.

I think we just are too independent to do the Meet and Greet. You put a lot of work into it and not critical of you. Once we got onboard, we just did not feel like being anywhere at a specific time. Learned our lesson.

I did not think you were being critical, I am so sorry if my post made it sound like that. I too was a little disappointed in my own sail away party! (My first time organizing one, tho.)

I know what you mean about specific times, I don't like it either, but put up with it on a few occasions. How do people know before they even board the ship that they want to go to a specific restaurant at a specific time? :) We did not book any before we got on board. We went to (and enjoyed) all of them. We normally eat around 530-6PM, it was only Cagneys (730PM) and Teppanyaki(9PM ) that we had to do late in order to experience them.

I really enjoyed your review, thank you for posting it. I will hopefully post my thoughts soon, need to go over the notes with Bonnie first.

  4. Cruise Critic Meet and Greet

This was our first time signing on to a Meet and Greet and looked forward to it. We went to the Sail Away party and had a hard time finding any of the other members of our group. Not real organized and decided to leave. That kind of took care of us for doing anything more so we did not make the actual Meet and Greet on the first Sea Day and skipped the Slot Pull. Our bad. I guess the bottom line is we just are not group oriented people and probably should not have signed up to start with.

I am sorry the Sail Away party did not work as I intended. I kept moving between both sides of Bali Hai to look for other attendees but only found 20 or so of the 100 that said they would like to attend. I need to find a better way of for people to show they are part of the roll call. We missed you at the Meet and Greet, which went much better on Wednesday. My spreadsheet had about 150 people sign up and 145 people signed in! I have only been to 3 other Meet and Greets, but none were even close to that size. I am glad they moved it to Spinnakers and not Medusa as they originally planned. My problem was moving around the ship for the rest of the cruise and so many people saying Hi, and me not remembering names! :o. I am not sure of the numbers, but i believe it was about 35-40 for the slot pull.

  5. Well, I should clarify here. I know the original poster asked about Bermuda but also about taking food off the ship.

We have taken the food off the ship in St. Martin, St.Thomas and In Gerainger and Flaam. But have not been to Bermuda.

We tend to fall more on the practical side. In most cases we washed and cut the fruit. So there was nothing wrong or diseased with the fruit. We did pack everything back to the ship to dispose of all 4 times. (Pack it in/Pack it out)

In Cabo San Lucas we were going to take a couple apples and bananas with us. As we got off the ship we saw the bag checkers there and went up and asked if we could take the fruit and they said no food. Even packaged food. (Im guessing here but Im sure this is problematic with people feeding cereal to the fish in port there)

So we left the fruit on the ship. I'm not saying to arrogantly break the law, but if there's no one checking bags as we get off the ship I'm bringing snacks with me. We like to hike quite a bit and most of the ports we get in too early and stores are not yet open.

An example would be In Gerainger Norway there was not many shops at port and the ones that were didn't open until 9 or 10. By that time we had already hiked 12 miles up a mountain side overlooking the Fjords and were snacking on some fruit.

I think the impact of 15000 people a day is way more detrimental to an Islands well being than taking a piece of fruit with you that you are personally consuming. Does everyone clean their shoes before they walk off a ship? How about snorkelers? Do they wash their gear and make sure they are not carrying an invasive species into the waters with them? Do you empty all your bags and check for any bugs, fleas, wipe them down with antibacterial wipes? There are all kinds of ways for disease to pass from one place to the next.

Again, I'm not saying to be arrogant but a little practicality goes a long way.

Yes, your right, maybe we should irradiate everything and everyone when we board a plane or ship. But since we don't, we should at least do everything within our power to lessen the risks. How many other rules and laws do you break because it is inconvenient for you to follow?

  6. I remember reading on here that the poster was upset because a 12 year old girl spent most of the day in the pool, which apparently meant the woman couldn't get in the pool. (1) I didn't know there was a time limit for the pool and (2) the woman could clearly get in the pool if she wanted, I guess she wanted the pool all to herself and the child prevented her from having what she wanted.

I am a Scouter in Canada, and from day one two deep leadership ( don't be alone with the youth) is hammered into our heads. I would be uncomfortable being a lone adult in a pool with children. Heck, I don't even like using public washrooms as there might be unattended youth present!
