  1. I should mention that embarkation was probably the fastest and smoothest I've ever experienced. We arrived at the port at about 9:45AM, and we were boarding by 10:50AM, and onboard by 11 [emoji41]

I also had the opportunity to meet and chat with this legend....very nice guy!!!

There 's an article in today's New York Times business section where they write about him : " Calling a Cruise Ship Home : See the World , See it Again ". There are two nice photos of him , too .

  2. Just wondering why you do not cruise on Celebrity instead . I hear from family that the food is much better on that cruise line. It is the same company and you keep your elite status. Also , perhaps you ought to stop dining at Chops and try the MDR .

Also , I'm wondering why you wear a baseball cap in a foreign country with a slogan that in effect declares that you live in a country that is not great . My country is great . Can it improve ? Yes .

  3. I love this idea. We actually tell our attendants to skip our room during the cruise. It's funny because they are usually replying, "Are you sure?". But, I am sure on the inside they are thinking, "Sweet".

Looking forward to the 2nd half of your live report!

Sorry , I misunderstood . I read "'skip our room during the cruise "'to mean the entire cruise . My apologies.

Why ? What about clean towels and emptying the trash ? Are you pre-paying the gratuities ? I know Starwood properties give extra points if you skip daily service . The hotel can hire fewer housekeepers and you get to keep a few extra bucks. I'm guessing that is not your intent . You are being nice or don't want the hassle.

  5. Yes, I suppose I am!

I've pretty much lost count, and since I can't see my signature on tapatalk, I'll guess that I have been on about 25 or 26 cruises since 2006, and every single one has been on Royal Caribbean. I have no real desire to stray, Royal meets my needs and I love the perks that come along with being loyal [emoji1] There are many similarities between Voyager and Freedom class, and there are also some differences. I like both classes. I love ships with a Royal Promenade.

You can see your signature if you tap on your photo in the upper left hand corner. You have many listed. Any chance of a group pic ? Tapatalk is terrific by the way.

  6. Last night I had a small case of the sniffles.

This morning when I got up it was gone but by 8 am it was back.

We decided to stay on board today and take it easy.

I am afraid that the sniffles may turn into a head cold so we cancelled out diner at Chops tonight and are continuing to take it easy.

There is nothing worse than getting sick on a cruise ship!

At least you don't have far to go for medical advice. Hope you feel better.

  7. Jim , while trying to find your location last night I came upon this web page : sea-scanner .com (sea-scanner dot com ). It lists in port in Roseau ( Dominica) / Lesser Antilles, today :

    MS Serenade 2,110 PAX

    MS Britannia 3,647 PAX

    MS Silver Sea 382 PAX

    Total in port 6,139 PAX

Britannia must be a mistake . I really like this web page. The info for our cruise on Serenade next summer is up to date concerning a port change.

  8. Husband and I usually book MTD . On our last cruise , they couldn't accommodate us and sat us at a table of eight friends . Before they started eating they joined hands and asked us to join in and started saying grace. I found that to be uncomfortable.. Then one " gentleman " tells me he never eats all the food on his plate.., It was lobster night and he was trying to send me a message. I did not have seconds so how rude and he was portraying himself as a southern Christian " gentleman " .

  9. Water bottles, your own cups are the same thing.

Fill a glass that's provided, then dump it into your specific drinking apparatus,

then add the proper beverage enhancement.

That is a great idea ! Not only was our ship infected with the norovirus but it also lost power for 3 hours. Not going anywhere for 3 hrs with no A/C in Central America. Bring a flashlight . Did not know that toilets do not flush without electricity.

  10. There was a sign on the dispensing machine near the pool bar and WJ not to refill water bottles because of sanitation issues. Nothing about refilling cups. After an outbreak of the norovirus on the ship those dispensing machines were shut down. How do you clean the straws?

  11. GROSS GROSS GROSS GROSS GROSS!!!!

Based on this, we will now wipe down the INSIDE of every drawer with sanitizing wipes when we cruise.

    Absolutely repulsive!

Yes , that would be a very smart move . On our last cruise , my husband found underwear in the drawer. My DH didn't let me know until after the cruise. On that cruise , I had lined the drawer with newspaper before I had put my toiletries there. It was the 1st time that I had used a drawer in 45+ yrs of travel . I usually keep my lotions and potions in a Land's End tote bag. Yes, I have to rummage to find things. The bathroom is free of clutter. We put our dirty clothes in plastic bags , no need for hampers ! Both of us have taken graduate level classes in microbiology and I " see " bacteria everywhere but I don't disinfect anything. On our last cruise one hundred pax came down with the norovirus probably due to careless practices . Thankfully , we didn't get sick.

Lots of helpful hints here !

  12. Robyn, thanks for an amazing review! Did you folks ever have any in suite meals delivered? Also, if you have any other pictures of the suite itself, please post.

If you google Freedom of the Seas and scroll down to USAToday , there is a large article about the ship with photos of the OS . The balcony pics show the lounge chairs without cushions. Robyn , your photos were outstanding.

  13. Robyn, your photos are superb . The composition is outstanding especially the lone man on the jogging track. I can see why digital camera sales are decreasing . I've noticed that you don't photograph your fellow cruisers faces . You respect their privacy as well as your family's .

So much about the cushions ! I would have asked for extra bed pillows and towels. Still don't get the advantage of pre-purchasing OBC .
