  1. It could be both in the same announcement, with the new set of locks opening later this month, all of Carnival's ship will be able to transit the Panama Canal. Up until now only the Spirit class ships are in the Panamax class and capable of using the current locks.

If Carnival is smart, they could one-up Royal Caribbean by putting the newest/biggest/best ship on the west cost. All of Royal's new ships are still way too big(PostPanamax), and would have to transit around South America to accomplish the same thing.

In a time with cruise lines are packing more and more people on ships for profit, Carnival could have ordered massive ships like Royal to fit more people, but they didn't. I think Carnival had "New Panamax" specifications in mind when they ordered Vista class ships.

This is not to say the Vista isn't big, she is, but not as big as many expected to compete with Royals's Oasis class.

    Bigger isn't always better...well for some things:D.

This is not quite accurate. Oasis class ships would actually fit through the new locks when they are completed but would not fit under the Bridge of the Americas. However Royal's actual newest class of ship, Quantum class, will fit once construction is complete. And Quantum class ships are significantly larger than Vista, so I seriously doubt Carnival was thinking about the canal at all when designing her.

  2. The Splendor was selling good until the Swine flu outbreak in 2009, the the engine fire that left the ship stranded. The Miracle typically has higher rates than ships in Florida, so they could stand to put a bigger ship in Long Beach. I doubt Vista 2, but it would be nice to get Freedom or Breeze.

I also strongly doubt Carnival would put a brand new ship on the west coast. I just can't see them replacing Miracle, a 2,100 passenger ship with an almost 4,000 passenger ship. They seem to move at a more deliberate pace on upping capacity than that.

I think a more likely scenario would be the new ship replacing either the Glory or the Conquest. If the experiment of using the Valor for 3/4 day cruises out of Canaveral is a success then I can see the Glory or Conquest then replacing the Victory on 3/4 cruises from Miami.

The Victory could then either go to the West Coast to replace Miracle, to San Juan to replace Fascination, or stay in Miami to take over its old route that Sensation is now running.

Since Carnival is experimenting with increased capacity at Fort Lauderdale with Splendor, I think the ship the Victory replaces will end up there running 4/5 day runs.

  3. So nice to read about your time on the Valor, as we are sailing on her in July (can't wait!).....but something you said makes me wonder....the Cheers! package that you bought, you said just you and your daughter purchased it, but I was under the impression that everyone in the cabin had to purchase it? Maybe I read your post wrong, but I thought you shared a cabin with the graduate as well, didn't he have to buy it?.....and you said you 'shared' the drinks? Again, I thought you couldn't do that, thus being the reason everyone in the cabin had to purchase. Forgive me, I'm not a stickler by any means....I'm only asking because I'm not a big drinker, but I ended up buying the Cheers! because my b/f wants it and I thought I read that everyone in the cabin has to buy it. We ended up paying $574 and I dare say I will drink $280 worth, in 5 days. Just curious.....

Everyone in the stateroom over 21 has to buy it. From the original post it appears the friend was only 20.

  4. I have worked it out! I know the name. The hype associated with the naming of the new 'Vista 2' ship is quite purposeful. Hints given by John Heald included 7 letters and a Z and N in the name and no it's not Horizon.

In the ever increasing pursuit of profit, Carnival is beginning a new program of selling the naming rights of the ships.

Get ready to welcome your Carnival Verizon!

    (Tongue firmly in cheek)

Well thought it was funny no matter what the way too serious grumpy butts might think!

  5. Carnival may have "many" new cruise ships planned, but are they ALL for Carnival Cruise Lines?

Actually none of the announced orders currently in place for Carnival Corp are for Carnival Cruise Line except the Vista class ship being discussed here that is coming out in 2018. Currently it looks like Aida has three ships on order (2017, 2019 and 2020) in addition to their new ship this year. Princess has three ships on order (2017, 2019, 2020). Costa has four ships on order (two in 2019, two in 2020). HAL has a sister ship to Koningsdam coming in 2018. And P&O Australia will be getting a new ship in either 2019 or 2020.

  6. Dont know that it needs to. Dream,Magic, Breeze.

JH posted on FB it's name would be similar to Vista. So if you believe him, I know lots don't, it would need to be something at least remotely similar. Since we are all making a guess here, I like the name Carnival Seascape.

  7. The 2014 article is correct and it included 5 ships. Last years order increased that total by 4 more ship bringing the new total to 9 ships currently on order.

The 2014 announcement includes the flowing ships

    1. Carnival Vista (2016)

    2. Majestic Princess(2017)

    3. Unnamed Sister ship to Carnival Vista(2018)

    4. Unnamed Holland American ship(2018)

    5. Unnamed Costa Cruises Ship(2019)

Did you even read the article I posted? It said this new order was in addition to the ones you mentioned already on order between now and 2019. The new order of nine ships are to be built between 2019 and 2022. I would copy and paste it if I wasn't on my phone

  8. There is a sister ship to Vista to launch in 2018.

    This from Dec 2014:

    <<>>

Carnival Cruise Line's as-yet-unnamed 3,954-passenger vessel, which is the 26th ship in the line's fleet, will offer many of the newest and most popular features from Carnival's current ships, along with several innovations that will be exclusive to this vessel. The delivery date for the new cruise ship is scheduled for March 2018. Homeport and itinerary information will be announced at a later date.

The new ship will be a sister ship to Carnival Vista, which is slated for delivery in spring 2016. Carnival plans to announce details on the many unique features and innovations of Carnival Vista during a three-day event for media, travel agents and consumers in New York Jan. 22-24, 2015.

Your link does not work, but like you said that was from Dec 2014. They placed an order for two ships at that time. A Vista class ship for Carnival and a pinnacle class ship for Holland America. This new order was announced in March 2015 and would all be delivered between 2019 and 2022. I will try to post a link.

  9. I realize a lot of your post was written to be comical but..... last March Carnival Corp said they were ordering 9 new ships. Four are from Mayer Werft. These are the four you mentioned, two going to AIDA, two to Costa. They are also ordering five from Fincantieri (the company currently building Vista). They have announced two are going to Costa Asia, one to P&O Australia, and one to Princess. That leaves one that they haven't announced. So who knows, maybe your onto something!

  10. The Fascination is a short time fix until they replace her with the Victory (again). The reason for using her is as some have alluded, southern itins are driven much more by the stops and less by the ship (in their opinion).

Since this thread has been brought back up, thought I should add that Carnival has since decided to keep Fascination in San Juan through at least April 2018. Victory will be moving back to Miami instead.

  11. While all this is true, this is a different set of circumstances. The original question in this post was about the Sensation going from Canaveral to Miami. Simply going to a foreign county would not satisfy the requirements. For the trip to start in Canaveral and end in Miami it would have to go all the way out of North America. Carnival seems to use Aruba a lot for these type of trips. Simply going to someplace like Nassau or Freeport would not satisfy this. That is why Carnival moved the ship empty (just like it did with Fantasy earlier in the week).

  12. Someone correct me if I am wrong on this but the issue is that Sensation is repositioning to Miami. A passenger ship cannot begin in one US port and end in another unless it goes to a distant foreign port first. This would be one of the ABC islands in the case of the Caribbean.

  13. Dredging this up again. I can't find anything in Tampa but the Paradise.

    Any news???

Pride is doing a few sailings from there next Jan/Feb but that looks like it. Honestly with the moving of Miracle to China there are not many options left for Tampa other than a second Fantasy class ship. I don't see Pride leaving Baltimore anytime soon with the prices she is getting sailing from there. Unless Carnival moves Spirit or Legend back up here there aren't any other options other than another Fantasy class ship that can get under the bridge and into Tampa. I would love to here other opinions out there on this.

  14. For the record, how many ships does MSC have for the Caribbean market now? I will give you hint, it is not zero but less than two.

This proves my point. They are obviously betting big this market. They have big plans or they would not be constructing a private island. No one said they are or would become a top share holder in the market, but they are investing in the North American market at a time when the other big companies are investing the majority of their resources in China.

  15. Is the only indicator of "investment" a new ship?

Take a look at those other lines with new ships entering the market and how their outlook is forecasted.

It's usually smarter to refurbish the old wife rather than buy a fresh new one.

If Carnival chooses to maintain its current fleet, its just fine with me. There's nothing wrong with them. They are clearly also satisfying others as their bookings, current and future, are healthy.

If you're looking for new builds, try NCL or RCCL... from the looks of things, that's working out swimmingly for them.

What are you even talking about? NCL, RCCL, and even MSC are all increasing North American capacity next year and all three are ahead of last years pace for future bookings. Carnival has currently announced Vista will homeport in Miami but it will be moving two of its ships to China. Unless they decide to homeport Vista's sister ship in North America they will be decreasing capacity over the next few years while all the other major companies are increasing. I look to MSC to expand at a much faster pace over the next decade. They are developing their own private island in the Bahamas that unlike HMC will feature the ability to dock at the island. And with 7 new builds currently on order, one would imagine several would be for the North American market since they are investing so heavily here. I would call that a good indicator of investment.

  16. Yeah, it seems the recent economic downturns in the Asian market have had no effect on all cruise lines, not just Carnival Corp, in their plans to expand into China. It still is disappointing as an American consumer to get passed up on all these new ships. While your right the Asian market is not surprising I am surprised with the amount of ships, both new and old, being sent into the Australian market.

  17. And you think the company will increase its market share in the US with aging ships and less berths? Common sense says that is not possible, especially in a time of economic growth and increased bookings. So defend Carnival all you want, but do not be surprised when you see you are paying higher prices each year to go on increasingly aging ships.

  18. So Carnival Corp announced today new ship orders from Fincantieri for 4 ships, one for Princess, one for P&O Australia, and two for Costa Asia. This is in addition to the order last summer announced for 4 ships, two going to Costa and two going to Aida (someone fact check that, only going by memory). So it looks like that means for Carnival Cruise Line, the only new ships between now and 2022 will be of course Vista and possiby her sister ship due for delivery in 2018. I say possibly because I find it very curious that absolutely no details seem to be coming forth on here. I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see her join the Miracle and Splendor in China. Anyone else have any information that I have missed? I am getting very frustrated that Carnival is simply letting its ships continue to age without seeming to care.

  19. The most prevalent rumor so far is that they're going to pull the Fantasy out of Charleston and send it down here to Mobile.

    Doing the happy dance!

The Fantasy is already being replaced with the Ecstasy in Charleston. She then goes to Miami until Fascination comes up from San Juan. She then goes to dry dock and isn't scheduled anywhere after that. That is why she makes sense to homeport in Mobile
