  1. I have been away from here for a few days due to the holiday but did I miss an announcement about Spirit coming back to the US for summer 2020? I am assuming this is for the summer Alaska season? I found her transpacific from Sydney to Honolulu in March/April 2020 and the other way in October 2020 which look like incredible cruises by the way.

  2. I could see this as an opportunity to move a larger ship (such as Conquest class) over to Alaska, or perhaps cycle Pride out of Baltimore to San Diego/Seattle, with Miracle taking Pride’s place in Baltimore after a month or two in Miami, when demand should be higher due to Presidents Day (lots of school systems give off the whole week) and Spring Break.

Then again, Carnival could just send Miracle back through the Panama Canal to take over Legend’s service out of Seattle.

Miracle also turns 15 in 2019, so she could be going into Freeport for dry dock. Her last time in dry dock was in March 2015. I could see Miracle getting 8-9 days of sailing out of Miami to capture the President’s Day crowd before heading to Grand Bahama Ship Yard, and then coming back into service just before the height of Spring Break.

I completely agree with all of that. I didn't even think about her drydock schedule being due. And I agree completely about needing a larger ship in Alaska and needing to swap Pride out. I have thought for a while a San Diego/Alaska ship could do well rotating seasons like that.

  3. The only question is do they fill up their ships at the price they are looking for? Lots of new capacity to fill up. Historically they could not get the business on WC.

Not really that much extra capacity. It's just for three months, at least that's all they are saying right now. I'm more surprised they are moving her in February instead of leaving her there until summer and using her in Alaska in 2020.

  4. 15 Years ago the service was much better, 15 years ago the MDR food was much better, 15 years ago they had a steak sandwich on Lido which was better than guys IMO, plus you had tons of other fast food choices which were cut. Horizons GP&A is mostly for a fee. 15 years ago you didn't have nickel and dime fees. Blue iguana is not that good especially if you live out west. 15 years ago they included so many other things that have been cut. Some changes a certainly nice but overall it's a watered down product from 15 years ago. Still a good product but with lots of cuts which have diminished the cruise experience.

Yet Carnival is still selling out every week with the most ships in the companies history. I haven't seen the last minute pack-and-go discount in forever. Apparently they are doing something right.

  5. For those wanting an even more in depth technical explanation, as chengkp mentioned, each propulsion motor is a doubly fed AC motor with each winding fed by a cycloconverter. The cycloconverter converts fixed line voltage and frequency AC power to a variable voltage and variable frequency to control motor speed. Problems with cycloconverters can be difficult to troubleshoot, but usually can be quickly repaired assuming spare parts are available. Even if the parts are not available onboard, they could be flown in to one of the ports. Since this problem is no [ w affecting the 6/23 cruise, it looks like this may turn out to be a drydock repair.

I am sure Carnival is hoping that isn't the case since Magic isn't due for another dry dock until 2021.

  6. I know some B2B cruises can violate the Jones act and Carnival has been know to block you from booking them if they do. Can you explain what it is that violates it. I have taken numerous B2B cruises but they always were from the same port on Close loop cruises. I am looking at taking one from Vancouver to LA as a Hawaii cruise and then B2B it to the LA to Tampa which is a Panama Canal. Would this violate it since it started in Canada.

It shouldn't. That's why they start those cruises in Vancouver instead of Seattle.

  7. I loved our cove on the Magic a few months ago. We did guarantee balcony and got put in the ver first cove on port side. It was great. Very very private. Being so close to the waterline was really cool, and we loved the location on port days and going home day since we do self assist. I’d book a cove every time no questions asked.

I will second this! We did the very first cove balcony on the starboard side on the Dream last September and loved it. Under guest services so no noise issues and it's so private! We didn't have any issues with sea spray or salt. I suppose sea conditions could change that. We absolutely adored that room.

  8. The one on the Dream last September was worthless. She told us we had to have to exact dates of the sailing we wanted to book and she would book it for us. She said she was unable to look anything up for us. And her future cruise presentation was useless. She named the ships in each class and that was it.

  9. Saw a post on Facebook from someone on board that says they are moving right along, sounds like the problem has been fixed.

The ship tracker I use shows that Magic is moving along at 18 knots. If that is correct that certainly isn't moving along "very slowly".

  10. Where are you seeing $25?

    https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4565/~/carnivals-future-cruise-vacation-welcome-home-program

Visit our friendly Loyalty & Cruise Expert to take advantage of this great offer:

    • 50% off deposit
    • $50 USD per stateroom Onboard Credit.. book a suite and get $100 USD Onboard Credit
    • Two category upgrade
    • Early Saver rates including Price Protection

I'm not seeing any OBC offered with early saver right now, but the link you provided is the welcome home program which is only valid for two weeks after you return home from you last cruise. So that wouldn't be valid unless someone just finished cruising.

  11. I absolutely love the Dream and wanted to throw out a few suggestions since it seems areas a little less crowded may appeal to you. When dining in the Lido buffet area, if the seating on Lido deck is too congested, I would suggest going up the stairs behind the desert area. There is a build your own pasta area up there that is actually pretty good, but you certainly don't have to be eating the pasta to sit up there. Just make your plates and head up there to eat if that is more comfortable for your daughter. Also the pools and hot tubs can be very crowded on Lido deck during peak hours but there are hot tubs on deck five on both sides of the ship that were rarely busy. These hot tubs are located on the outside deck that goes all the way around deck 5, which can offer some great quite moments especially if you walk out there and go all the way to the front of the ship. It can be quite windy but the views are extremely relaxing for me at least. Deck 5 on the inside can get very crowded if you are using it to walk from the front to the back of the ship between venues, but if you walk down a level to deck 4 you can there is the same walkway going from the atrium to the rear of the ship but it is much much less congested. I would suggest downloading the HUB app if you haven't already, its free after all, because it has a deck plan built in that can really come in handy. Have a great trip, the Dream is a wonderful ship!

  12.

This is what I thought as well. Here is the link to a drone video of the Glory made this month with a big white box behind the whaletale

And here is a link that has pictures that are obviously older because that big white box isn't there.

    Let's hope these links work!

  13. Your only 4-5 weeks away from final payment due date anyway. Just pay the extra deposit to secure the lower price. I don't understand how this is even a concern. And yeah I could offer an opinion if coming up with that extra deposit is a problem...but I will refrain from that right now.

He said in his original post why that is a concern... because he is waiting to receive the gift card he purchased. I am sure he bought that gift card at a discount is and using it to pay for his cruise.

  14. On our last cruise they did the $10 sale twice. Once set up in front of the Fun Shops around the third or fourth day, then another time up on the Lido in the afternoon (I think it was the first sea day). This is when otherwise normal people turn into crazed lunatics. The shirts on sale were different than the ones actually for sale inside the shop.

On the Dream it seemed like the destination tees were the ones on sale and I never saw much of a sale on the ship specific shirts which were the ones I wanted.

  15. Galveston is more expensive on the cruise side, but air is half the cost! We can get to Houston direct for $306 per person. The cheapest I could find to Miami, FLL, or Orlando was $600.

It sounds like you have already done your homework. My only suggestion would be to make sure you have priced New Orleans airfare and cruises out of there. Of course then you run into expensive hotels if you stay before or after your cruise. I say just go with your gut and have a great time!

  16. thanks all. I am going to stay with carnival but would I be able to get the credit if I did the lowest price guarantee form but showed them I could get the price lower from another site?

I think you are confusing the lowest price guarantee they have on shore excursions and the early saver price protection. As far as I have ever heard, with early saver price protection, that price has to be available on Carnivals website. A third party site doesn't work for that.

  17. and

People are dissatisfied with the Sunshine

When you look at the prices Carnival has consistently been getting for the sailings on Sunshine versus the ticket revenue per day on Victory and Triumph, I have a feeling Carnival has been very satisfied with what they did with Destiny. And at the end of the day Carnival is the one whose opinion matters since they are the one paying for the upgrades to Triumph if they are in fact going through with this very long dry dock.

  18. I'd heard of Mr. Sanchos - but not sure all-inclusive is the best option for us. Neither of us drink much, and I had stomach surgery, so eat very little. We'll check out Paradise Beach!

We're looking at this one for Progreso - historic tour with rum tasting at the end. https://www.carnival.com/shore-excursions/yucatan-progreso-mexico/historic-merida-highlights-and-mayan-rum-tasting-320038?b=6A766173376D30782B6D796B6A5358326235586277513D3D

I was also thinking about Faster to the Fun (FTTF). Wondering if the 80 bucks may be worth priority tendering....SO MANY QUESTIONS in my head today!

You shouldn't be tendering in either of those ports so that may help with that decision.
