  3. Around 15 years ago, I sat in on a lecture course given by the Professor of Money and Banking at the University of Loughborough. He was ex IMF and a rosy-cheaked old man. He asked two questions to kick-off his course. 1) "What is the business of banking concerned with most?" A student dutifully replied, "Money". He got an embarrassing gong and a sharp correction, "No! It is information". Then 2) "Whart is the first rule of banking?" No one then could answer.

The professor revealed, "Always have a first class ticket to South America". Then he made fun of students travelling economy. With first class, you can forever put off the the flight date until you need it and at no additional cost. "And it's better!"

My roundabout point is that some degree of flexibility in flights has value. More than once I have cancelled redemption (points) flights to take advantage of a next day cheaper option. 5% saving on the second week, although technically possible, may not be the best focus of your cost-minimising research!

    Tim.

I have first class ticket my problems is that the flight back are fully sell out and my option is to cancel my return flight and book with the other airline ... And the only direct flight are prohibitive I m not by any me somebody cheap but paying 1100$ for ticket flight back home for 4h flight is just insane for me (they usually cost 350$ fort first class )

  4. You are eligible to join after a minimum 3 nights on board. The issue you will have is obtaining your membership number in time to book in the remaining four days of your cruise. If your application is processed immediately, you may be able to request the number by email, then make an online booking if a second week is still available to book. This could be a high risk strategy just to obtain a potential 5% discount.

Skipper that was exactly my thought to my second problème is the plane ride that is 2.5 Time higher then went book originaly ....

  5. These prices were from their Operation Centre in Naples but I am sure that MSC UK have tweaked the prices as people from Canada on the Canada website are paying a lot less.

  6. Is the poker on Divina live cards or is it the 'Ipad' like machines on most ships?

I saw a resent vidéo on youtube that show poker pro table that we see on carnival ship

But in décembre a call mscusa to ask this same question wait 32 min for finaly

Have director of opération that they have live dealer for poker Texas holdem they just not have separated poker room like on fantasia ship .....

  7. My only concern now is the weather. We have to get from California to Florida in just a few weeks.

Tonights news says they have cancelled over a thousand flights so far for tomorrow because of the storms back east. Hate to think of what would happen if we are going this weekend.

Thats why it's always better have open plan ticket for cruise vacation ....

You see storm coming leave a day early.

    :-)

  8. We arrive back on the Divina I presume around 6-7 am. What do you think the chances are of making a 10:15 am flight out of Fort Lauderdale?

I know it is about 45 min to FLL from the port.

    Thoughts?

To short window if anything goes worg you lost your flight.

My advice buy open plan Ticket then if your able to be at the airport earlyyou change flight with out fees that what i'm doing for my voyage on divina in fev flingh for FLL with westjet

  9. Thx is very helpful !!

I was traveling with my mother's because my wife was unable to get the same vacation time but after some creative schedule shuffle she will be joint us but now have to take S's second cabin for my mother but will not be yatch club it's bit to expensive for solo traveler... So will see how we fix this I was hoping to have dine with us most of the week will see....

If where lucky we will Abel to buy the upgrade at the checking....

The yatch club help desck sais it's 35$ p need réservation

  10. Maybe.

We were on Divina over Thanksgiving, traveling with non-YC friends. We checked with MSC before sailing and they told us that it was no problem, our friends could come and dine with us, $20 each. "just let your butler know when". MSC also told us that the regular dining rooms have a spearate area for YC guests who chose to dine with non-YC friends in the main dining rooms and again, to just tell our Butler and we could go dine with our non-YC friends.

Well, you get on board and it's totally different. Basically, there is no area in the main dining room for YC guests. We were basically told it was not possible. After insisting politely, they were able to move our friends to another table that could accommodate us also. But I got the impression that this is NOT something they would be willing to do on a regular basis.

The one night we wanted our friends to come dine with us, we let concierge know in the morning. But there was no room in La Muse for our friends to join us. Now, we were a large group (4 in our family + 6 non-YC friends). In La Muse you have the same table nightly, so unless you have a large enough table to accommodate guests to start with, then I don't think it will work. They don't appear to have extra tables.

La Muse opens at 6.30 and always seemed busy at this time. Dinner can take AT LEAST 2-3 hours (unless you specifically ask for faster service). So tables won't start to be free until at least 9.30-10pm. if you are prepared to eat that late, then you may be able to get a larger table.

My advice is to ask at least a day or 2 in advance of the day you want to dine with friends, be prepared to be flexible with regard to timing, and don't be upset if they say no. It's not because they don't want to help you, it's because they just can't.

So, when we wanted to dine with our friends we went to the main dining room, and another night we ordered pizza in our cabin - which is totally amazing and as good, if not better, than everyone tells you it is! (don't expect a US/Domino's style of pizza either - this stuff is so fresh and amazing!)

Enjoy your cruise, we had a totally amazing experience in the Yacht Club!

    Thx is very helpful !!

  11. Nieuw Amsterdam.

Cabins from $499 pp. Choose any (category and location). Add $125 for Hydropool & Thermal suite, $125 if you want to have dinner in a specialty restaurant every night, proper afternoon tea ceremony is free, "top sail" lounge is free, sun decks are huge and free. Spectacular wrap-around promenade as a bonus.

Just look up the Nieuw Amsterdam form HAL

your prise dont match i look up a hold year worth off cruise ??!??!

  12. We have retuned from a cruise on a ship where exclusive YC amenities are standard or available for a small surcharge (specialty dining). We also added Hydropool Suite (not available on MSC). The whole ship was like YC (actually better due to better amenities).

Price? Roughly 50% or less of what we would pay for YC.

Far from that. First class on the Normandie was 43% (36% on the Queen Mary). What is 4%?:)

    What company ? I'm interested

And 4% it's depend of level occupancy it vary form 5-10%

  13. I wonder if the Yacht Club people don't spend more on the cruise than the average passenger. I was on Divina for Thanksgiving. I am single. But my bill at the end was $3,340. None of that was spent on alcohol. So I spent it in other areas. I didn't spend a penny on gambling. And I paid almost $4000 for my cabin.

Am I a typical Yacht Club passenger as far as spending? I don't know. But there must be some reason MSC is willing to devote space for fewer people. They have figured it out that in the end it is worth it.

Off course they spend more for one thing is it's all include so they have the mind set I can indulge. And it usually people that have more "free" money to spend if you book as 2k cabin plus air fare this does not include excursion spa gift off all kind speciality restaurant high end boos casino it's that you have money to burn you work hard all year this is you threat.

Compare to inside cabin where they question if is as good value to take a 30$ as day drinking package ... One couple in yatch club can spend 3-4, cabin worth of inside cabin .... So business wise its make sense to protect and cultivate this big customer .

But again "american " do like to face with the reality that some people will not be treated equally it's the same complain we ear in airports with the priorities boarding Frist class we always ear "its not fare I've been here for 45 min and that guys is already in the plane he waited only 3 min to get in" for me this statement is so funny ...

  14. When I first read about the Yacht Club, that is exactly what I thought.

How can they have not only a dedicated restaurant but the Top Sail Lounge AND a dedicated pool area for such a small percentage of the people.

It is obvious that it has to take away from the majority.

I almost felt guilty booking my YC2 cabin but......

2 full rooms with all the included things for a price that was probably half what I would pay on any other line.

It really seems like they are bringing back the old 'class' system. On other cruiselines, when you get a suite, it is just more amenities you get....not so much dedicated space outside of your cabin.

Yatch club bring in way more money its that simple

I've been reading on many review / comments that it's unfair that yatch club have so much and they represent less then 10% off passenger but no one says that that they bring anywhere for twice to for time the same amount on money that others cruiser.

I've sail on carnival in suite and felt like as full it's just litel bigger then as balcony cabin twice the price and you get nothing in extra for your trouble no priority seating in restaurant nothing priority debarkation that is not applicable beside when you go back to home b port

  15. I find this thread very interesting and very funny at the same time

Never thought coffee will be hot topic like this :-) but again I'm not coffee junky I can't go with out drinking coffe for weeks

I'm form Canada and never find as good coffee to drink in vacation in the USA.

I don't like Starbuck coffee ider I call it burn coffee how are the cappuccino and espresso compare to MSC ?
