Thanks Tracie.
My kid is generally not interested in the kids club, and I don't plan to force her (she didn't even step into the kids club on our RCCL cruise, and she went to the DCL club just once, and that was only because her best friend from school was going).
Maybe she'll change her mind this time (since there doesn't appear to be much to do) - we shall see. I'll be sure to bring a couple books for myself (in case she decides to try out the kids club).
Are there any activities targeted to families?? Or are there just adult activities and kid activities (never the twain shall meet)?
Thanks!

So my daughter (age 10) and I are accompanying my parents on the Summit to celebrate their 50th wedding Anniversary. We will have about 4 days at sea.
I am trying to figure out what my child and I can do to pass the time while we're on the ship (when my parents want some alone-time).
I see that kids are allowed in 1 of the 3 pools, but I don't see us spending much time here. I also see there *may* be shuffleboard and there *may* be bocce (reports seem to vary on this). And it sounds like there are some ping pong tables.
Are there any other activities that my child and I can do together on the Summit?
My backup is to bring crafts, games, and DVDs (but it would be nice to enjoy some ship-related activities as well).
Thanks!

Yes, I've seen the menus, however, supposedly the listed items are sample and not the official ones. On my upcoming Q cruise I booked American Icon for 6 nites out of the 11 because of the menu listed on the website. Some Pax have been complaining due to certain expectations. For example, surf & turf is listed, but yet not available and only available at Grande--that's the reason for my inquiry.
They switched the menus around a bit before the 1st cruise - after the 1st cruise they posted the new ones online. Possible some of the old ones are still floating around (may be that their IT forgot to delete the old ones). In one location on their site they labeled the new menus as "examples" (which means any given cruise might have something slightly different). For example, on the current online menu they do NOT list short rib, but the most recent cruise DID have short rib on the Amer Icon menu...

No need to prepay grats. Who knows, maybe they'll have issues on your sailing and you'll get OBC to pay those grats with.;)
Thanks! I was reading some things about prepaid gratuities that were confusing, so I just wanted to make sure... T-18 days and counting :D very excited!

Hi. We signed up for the Quantum before it was revealed that there would be DD. We paid for the cruise, but we have not prepaid for gratuities. Do you think we should do this BEFORE we board, or do you think we can wait until we're on the ship??? Thanks!

THANK YOU for the food pics... I LOVE food pics!!! :)

I am loving this guy's review... very balanced and insightful...

Again have they forgotten their meat and potatoes cruisers or really hoping the Millenniums have enough bucks to cruise a lot?
Well, don't they already have a lot of ships that work well for the "more traditional" cruisers?
I am not one who wants to "relax" on vacation - I like to be entertained, I like having a variety of activities to try, I want to spend time with my kid, and I don't gamble.
I am a GenXer with a kid, and I NEVER would have considered cruising until these newer ships came on board.
I would HOPE there's room for BOTH you (their traditional "bread and butter") AND me (younger, emerging market).
Society evolves (in terms of its "tastes") and so one would expect ships to evolve as well to meet the interests of the next generation... but with so many ships in its fleet, seems like they can evolve while STILL meeting the needs of more "traditional" cruisers...

1) We did not spend the 14.95 to have access to the texting and calling via Royal IQ.
Is this $15/day, or per entire cruise? Thanks!

The simple general answer, if not used lost.
Got it, thanks! Good to know...

All monetary exchanges processed onboard are paid out in U.S. Dollars directly to your SeaPass onboard charge account unless otherwise specified.
Oh, thanks for pointing that out. We ALSO have CHOPS reservations on 12/25 (see you there ;) ) - good to know that if something comes up, the cash goes to OBC (not back to the card). Forewarned is better than surprised!
I am a relative newbie to cruising - QUESTION - if we don't use all the OBC does it go away, or would it be available for a future cruise?

Thank you for sharing your logs/pics! Appreciate it!

When they originally opened they allowed 10:30am to be selected. They decided to remove that time and automatically moved everyone that selected it to 11:15am. If you go in 10:45am may be available to choose as that is the new earliest time. I called RCCL about the boarding groups since I was getting one person with a different group every time (varied who it would be) even though we are all the same C&A level and in the same cabin. They said that we would board together and if the system works as planned the groups will be meaningless as they will simply be loading by order of arrival. Only if there is an issue and things backup or boarding is delayed would they apply any priority to groups.
Ah, I see now! Thank you!!

If you are all traveling together as a family, you can all board together as a family.
Oh wow, that's nice! : ) Thanks!

I normally wait to publish my photos alongside my reviews, but in this case I'm making an exception.
Wow, thank you. Your pics are gorgeous!

So if you are C&A Platinum or Emerald it's the reason for C
You should be able to board together -
Thanks. One cabin (my parents) is Platinum. Cabin two (my child and I) are not even in C&A.
So it sounds like my parents would board first, then we would wait until either boarding E or F (depending on which set sail pass they accept).
Hopefully it's not too much time between C and E/F...
Thanks!!

A while back, I printed Set Sail Passes. The Port Arrival Time was 10:30am and both cabins got a boarding letter of "E."
I went in recently (to print luggage time) and I see they changed our Port Arrival Time to 11:15am. Also, one cabin now has the letter "C" and one cabin has letter "F."
I am trying to finalize our plans for port arrival day - do we now wait until 11:15am (as the new set suggests), or head there at 10:30am (using the original set)?
Also, I have never cruised with RCCL before - any idea on what the difference between a "C" and an "F" will be? (We're an extended family in two cabins.)
Thanks!

Will post photos tonight if you want to see them.
Yay! Lloyd is back! OK, that is SO funny! "will post photos if you want to see them" -- of course we want to see your photos!

I wouldn't say the pastries and other items available in La Patisserie are exactly the same as available from other venues on the ship. La Patisserie has items like French Macarons, Petit Fours, Chocolate Truffles, etc.
Tyler80 - do you happen to recall how much your box of treats cost? (Trying to get an idea of the price range... I do love a good macaron!!)

They have changed the menus since they came out with dynamic dining. Those changes are on the website and the current (example) menus can be found here.
steamboats
Thanks Steamboats! Sounds like the web site folks just haven't caught up... they just need to add these to the Quantum Dynamic Dining site.
I like that the files names say "sample menu." Note to RCCL: you might want to add a footnote to this effect on the body of the PDF as well (since I imagine some folks may print these out and may forget the file naming convention).
Thanks again Steamboats!!!

Still waiting for an answer as to whether the doors are steel and I can put out my Cruse Critic sign or do I have to bring tape to secure the signs to my cabin door.
I saw this answered earlier (not sure if it was here or elsewhere) - magnets WILL work on the doors.

Spoke with RCCL about differences between the menus onboard the TA and the menus on the web. I was told the menus on the web site are meant as examples and are intended to show the TYPE of food a given restaurant might serve. I was told the menu might change slightly every cruise, depending on what was fresh, or what holidays were happening during the cruise.
This is fine, but I figure that it's best that folks know this so that we all have realistic expectations.
If anyone at RCCL reads this, perhaps you might consider adding a note to the web-posted menus so people know to adjust their expectations... I didn't notice anything on the web page that says the menu is just an example (although it's possible I missed it)... Thanks!

Thank you to Joanna and Tracy and all the other Live Reviewers! :) We SO appreciate any/all of your posts. (And I look forward to even more when you all get back, after you have had time to decompress...)

Try Quantum dining (877) 812-3612. Yeah, I selected American Icon for 4 night because of the surf & turf.
Yes, I was thinking I should call DD. Unfortunately, I keep getting a busy signal today. (Perhaps it's "just me" and there's something wrong with my phone? Or perhaps they are so swamped with calls their system can't handle it?)
Was hoping for an email because I don't have to wait on hold...
But will keep trying the 877 number and hopefully it will open up... (my guess is the folks manning this line won't know the answer, but hopefully they can direct me up the "food chain" until I can locate someone who can provide me with information).
Thank you!
Summit - what is there to do for a parent and child (if you don't like laying out)?

Thanks. Again, I will gently suggest the kids club, but I don't think she will be interested... although maybe the lack of activities on the ship will convince her to try it...
I am, admittedly, leery of this ship... there was SO much to do on the prior 2 ships we cruised on... (heck, the last ship had bumper cars and a parachute simulator!!!)
Well, I'll be sure to save some good books for the trip... and I'm looking forward to seeing Bermuda (which I've heard is quite lovely).
QUESTION - are kids allowed in *all* the restaurants? Or are some adult-only? (Just want to make sure I know before we board - I looked at the Celebrity website, but they don't mention anything.)
Thanks again for the ideas, really appreciate it!
