  1. The advantage of Dynamic Dining is that you can look at the menus offered at each restaurant the day you want to go. If you don't like the offerings, you cancel your reservation and make a new reservation (or stand-by) at a different restaurant where the menu is more to your liking. If nothing is desirable, you go to WindJammer.

The menu choices may change at anytime, so what it is now may or may not be there next week/month/year.

If I can keep my mom happy, I would like to do so. Windjammer will certainly not make her happy, nor will waiting standby, when we were asked to make reservations well in advance (which we have done).

My question is a basic one - I just want to find out whether the menus on the website are being replaced with what's onboard so that we (as consumers) can make the best choice for us.

EDNJ - my guess is that you cannot answer my question... if anyone ELSE knows where I might inquire at RCCL, please let me know. Thank you very much!

  2. What difference does it make what will be on the menus? Just consider it a surprise and enjoy the anticipation to see what is there when you arrive at the restaurant.... Everyone knows that there will be GREAT entrees and enough variety to please almost everyone.

It's not me that I am worried about, but my mother.

My daughter (age 9), Grandpa, and I will ALL be fine, but my mother is allergic to seafood and she also has a relatively narrow taste palate. For example, in American Icon my guess is she would have loved the short rib, but she won't like the apparent replacement (flank steak). And in Chic, there now appears to be a chicken dish she would like (whereas she dismissed the Chic menu before, which had nothing she was interested in).

I want to make my mother happy, and if I can identify which menu version (onboard or online) is the "right" one, then I can increase the chances of my Mom being happy at dinner... And what child does not want to make her mother happy (if she can manage it)??

  3. MENU CHANGES

Not a question for the Launchers, but a question for any RCCL "experts"...

So the menus on board differ from those on the web site. We made decisions based on the web site menus and I think my family might want to tweak if the on board menus are what will actually be operational for the coming months.

Does anyone have contact info at RCCL (email or otherwise) for someone who might actually know what's happening with the menus in the short term???

  4. Question for the Quantum Launchers:

Are they "enforcing" the formal dress code at Grande? How dressy is it? Men - jackets without tie? Have to have a tie? Women - dressy slack outfit okay?

According to the web site men must wear long pants, a shirt, and a jacket (no tie needed). Saw a video (think it was the long one made by the German reporter) where he asked the Grande employees about dress code and he was told that people would be encouraged to dress accordingly (eg with a jacket) but they would NOT be turned away... (now if someone was wearing cutoff shorts and a tank top, not sure what would happen...)

  5. If they ever wanted to backtrack on DD, they could simply do what Disney does.

It has multiple "MDRs," and you rotate throughout (two dining times, one early, one late). Some nights all the restaurants use the same menu (eg "Captain's Night"), some nights there is a restaurant-specific menu. Since you rotate throughout the cruise, you get to try one of each menu, but you get to experience different venues. Oh, and your service team rotates with you the entire cruise (same staff, just different "livery" depending on the restaurant).

My parents liked that the same serving team moved with us; *I* could care less; my child HATED it! (She was annoyed early on - being called princess, and they tried to cut her food for her - it really turned her off and so the server just tried even harder and harder to make her happy, which just made her even more annoyed... it was pretty funny! Although I felt bad for the serving team, b/c they were, in fact, great!)

My daughter was SO happy to hear that we would not have the same serving team following us on the Quantum!

So RCL could backtrack on DD if they wanted, if they used the Disney model.

However, I do think RCL DD may be here to stay (at least on the newer ships). I am new to cruising (the Quantum will be my 2nd cruise ever). I like having lots of options, lots of things to do, and flexibility to change plans. One reason I never thought of cruising before last year was b/c I am not one for laying around.

Perhaps the future of cruising will allow for two options: one for those who like older style cruising (like my parents) and one for those who like a more spontaneous approach (like me and my child).

  6. Looks like Patchy wifi may be temporary... although I realize that this is no solace for the current cruisers! :(

    Per The Telegraph in UK:

"Service provider O3b Networks does not have a satellite in the UK, so while Quantum has more bandwidth than every other cruise ship in the world combined, passengers were subjected to the same patchy internet service found on other cruise ships.

It meant that the new Royal IQ app that allows you to keep track of any restaurant and spa reservations, for example, was not working properly either. "

  7. I will do a review later having a bad one today

Oh dear... so sorry. Hope everyone gets their "sea legs" (or better drugs) soon...

Re: kids menu, wonder if you mention something at Guest Services if they could arrange *something* at each restaurant. Even if it's limited, like plain pasta noodles with butter/parmesan, or a breaded chicken cutlet - have to imagine that each kitchen could handle that. (I am one of those lucky parents who has a child who has a palate like an adult... sorry for the little ones!!)

  8. Thanks! That's great news!

For any CCers on there, if you find time to snap a copy of the lunch and dinner menus, that would be great!!! (Since to-date they have not listed a menu on their web site.)

And thanks again to the CCers who are posting here and on Shutterfly - really appreciate it!!!!
