  1. My husband has the portable concentrator as well and we just spoke with the special needs department at Princess. But if you want oxygen delivered to the ship ask your oxygen provider or your doctor because I think they will have to okay it. You can probably ask the special needs department what their policies are for oxygen. Good luck.

  2. I also love Sapphire...she was our first Princess ship taking us for the first time to Alaska. There wasn't anything I didn't like but what stands out for me is the beautiful covered pool...the colors of blue and cream was very relaxing. We would get an ice cream and sit and enjoy the pool area which was mostly empty for that cruise.

  3. We have done the Mexican Reviera (MR) several times...easy cruise for us in California. We also took advantage of the $1deposit yesterday and booked MR for 2019 on Royal. Haven't been there for a few years but have always had fun. We did ship excursions in the beginning and enjoyed ourselves...not sure what excursions are offered now.

We now love doing the ports on our own especially the Rubicon in Puerta Vallarta. We also do Cabo on our own and really enjoy that. Not a big fan of Mazatlan so we hang out at the port for a few hours. All that said we will still check out ship excursions.

The weather in December is usually nice...low humidity in the 70s. However as weather usually goes that can change.

For your first time check out the excursions offered by the ship and go from there. Also check out the ports of call threads here on CC you will find a wealth of info.

I think you will like Mexico the people are courteous and friendly. But with every travel destination use caution and be aware of your surroundings.

    Enjoy your cruise.

  4. i was trying to be a little lighthearted with that last sentence...given my belief that the biggest complainers of the new shows seem to not enjoy rock/pop music from the 70's and 80's. I'm in mid 40's and my mom is 72 as well...and there was certainly a generation gap between mine and my parents musical tastes.

The shows can't appeal to everyone unfortunately. On the oasis of the seas, they had "cats" and i fell asleep and then left during the 1st intermission. Just not my style. No doubt a full broadway style production costs more to put on and no doubt ccl isn't spending that kind of money but as long as the musical style of the productions are in my wheelhouse, i'm going to enjoy them. Now if they delve into the popular music of the 2000's and 2010's...then i'll start complaining :)

    lol ;)

  5. Its a great itinerary. I'm doing the same one on the Vista in April-18. Also did a similar one on RCI on the Independence of the Seas that had Labadee vs Grand Turk. I prefer Labadee to Grand Turk, but either way, the Sunshine is a refurbished ship with all the upgrades, etc.

I'll highlight a few things that to me stand out favorably for Carnival vs RCI. Make sure you try a drink at the Alchemy Bar and also make reservations at the Steakhouse. IMO, its much better than Chops and then spend some time in the Serenity area which is 21+ unless you like that hustle and bustle of the main pool area. Spend some time in the Piano Bar at night as it can quite fun (especially vs. the low key piano bar on RCI), though that is dependent on who the entertainer is...there can be a dud here and there.

While the shows on CCL might be weaker than RCI, if you are a fan of 70's and 80's rock (depending on your age) you might enjoy some of the playlist productions. The ones that complain the most are old timers with oxygen tanks that miss Vegas style Sinatra and Wayne Newton type tunes LOL

How old are you...I am a senior 72 and I have never listened willingly to Sinatra in my life also never a fan of Wayne Newton. Remember we were in our late 20s or early 30s during the 70s and if I am not mistaken Sinatra was way past his prime by then. DH has an oxygen tank...one of those new fangdangled ones and he isn't a fan of Sinatra or Newton either. But I think my parents were big fans.

  6. Chris...I have completely enjoyed this live review. I wasn't sure I wanted to follow along because we couldn't be there...but has been lots of fun and very entertaining. Thanks for doing this.

Also love your door magnets...especially the Quantum OTS welcome...did you make it or Wendy?

We are back in L.A. with no appointments this afternoon. We were home for the week-end and enjoyed that...got some laundry done. But this review has been a great break in our routine.

Give my love to all the PBC people for me.

  7. I've not seen Royal open batches of new cruises on October for at least the last few years.

I wondered if that was still accurate. We booked Quantum, had to cancel, late in May 2013 and booked our two Navigator cruise coming up I believe in March or April of this year and had great choices for cabins because all the bookings were early. Do they still open new itineraries twice a year?

  8. In the past I have found that RCI opens new itineraries in April and October...they already have the first half of 2016 open and have since spring 2014. Hopefully they will open last half of 2016 in October...I also want to book a late 2016 cruise. I definitely will keep checking. :)
