  1. The next ship dancing update I want is the 2017 schedule out of Norfolk. We usually get a small number of sailing each year. I'm always hoping the number will go up!

This year we had the Splendor for May and October, and it sold insanely well.

Next year we have the Sunshine for a few sailings in June and October. According to my TA, it's selling out fast.

I'm not holding my breath for a year round ship here (I wish!), but I am hopeful that one of these days we might get a longer season, maybe 3 - 6 full months with more varied itineraries. Norfolk is well positioned to offer Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada/New England, and could do Eastern Caribbean on longer sailings.

  2. Unfortunately, that information has not been provided to us.

    Thanks for the reply!

Edit: Also, thanks for all your updates! Liberty is my favorite ship, so I've followed all your posts. It has also been really interesting to learn more about how CCL handles a situation like this.

  3. I don't know, but it would be kind of understandable if the neighbor was bad enough.

I'm pretty easy going, but the one thing that really can piss me off is inconsiderately loud people, especially at night.

I've been on several Carnival cruises and never had much of a problem with this, but if I did, I'd probably first call guest services and see if there is anything they can do about the situation.

It'd be pretty extreme to call it quits and go home. And if someone did invoke vacation guarantee due to horrible neighbors, it seems like Carnival ought to just kick off the people causing the problem. (Assuming it could be proved what they were doing.)

  4. I've had both the "old" menus and American Table and loved both, but preferred American Table. It sounds like when it first rolled out, there were some poor choices that were quickly fixed. That soured some people. A lot of others just don't like change. That leaves those who tried it with an open mind and genuinely didn't like it and those of us that love it. With that in mind, take opinions on it with a grain of salt and give it a try! :)

  5. No, that's how I feel about a broken ship. Personally I prefer sea days over port days. Over 30 cruises and I've yet to experience this <typing while knocking wood>

That makes sense. I misunderstood your comment.

I also like sea days better than many port days. And if I were on a cruise, I'd be disappointed by problems like this. But I'd also try and make the best of it and have some fun. I'd happily trade a beach day in St. Thomas for one at home. We've got nice beaches here, but not as nice as USVI!

  6. We don't vacation In or on any of those things.

And a beach day at home costs me $7 per person. What's it costing these passengers? $100 for the same sand and water?

If that's how you feel about cruising, what are you doing here? (Not meaning to be rude... Just sounds like cruising isn't your cup of tea.)

  7. We did the Halloween repositioning on the Splendor last year from NYC to San Juan and it was really fun. I can't find any information on this sailing so it might be chartered... Any information? Just curious.

Repositioning cruises to/from Norfolk always sail empty.

Unless they choose to offer one in the future that sails to a foreign port or San Juan before going to NY or Miami, that will remain the case.

  8. Here is the official letter they gave everyone on board......http://boards.cruisecritic.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=361826&stc=1&d=1441663125[/img]

Can you repost a higher quality image? It's too pixelated to read.

Glad everyone is safe! I hope they determine the cause of the fire before setting sail. I'd be nervous about a repeat.

  9. No you cannot use the Gift Card in the Spa or Shops. All charges on the ship go onto your S & S card. You have to apply the gift card to your S & S card and your wife if she checks will find out.

    Thanks for the info.

I may have to get her gift elsewhere then.

  10. Do you know if Carnival gift cards can be used for onboard purchases in the Spa and the Gift Shops?

I am hoping to use the gift card directly, so the charges will not appear on my Sail & Sign account.

Buying a couple gifts for the wife, and don't want to ruin the surprise. (She checks sail & sign balance daily.)

  11. Good.

Freeport is a lousy port as is. Unless you're booking an excursion or plan to pay for a taxi to get you a good distance away from where the ship docks, there's hardly any reason to bother getting off.

A private port that could both provide a pleasant experience walking off the ship, better views than an industrial area, and still be a gateway to the island for excursions sounds fabulous.

This wouldn't necessarily work as well in places like Sint Maarten or Bermuda, where the existing ports are already in appealing areas. But for Freeport, I can definitely see why they'd want to do this!

  12. On the Glory, I had a steakhouse dinner for me and my wife comped after I didn't enjoy the entree. It was the lamb, and was just really tough and not good. I didn't actually complain. Our waitress noticed I hadn't eaten much of it and asked if I liked it, so I said not really. She offered to let me choose another entree and I got the surf and turf. I was perfectly happy with that. When we got our sail and sign bill at the end of the week, I saw that they had removed the charge for the steakhouse. I inquired and the steakhouse manager had done it. I wouldn't have asked for it to be free, since I felt they already went above and beyond by replacing my entree without being asked. But I have to say, I was absolutely blown away by how good they treated us.

  13. I think they'll have a great time!

I am a quiet type, and strongly dislike noisy, crowded events.

I've been on numerous Carnival cruises and loved them

Yes, Carnival has lots of noisy crowded events. And many of their customers choose them specifically for this. It's what appeals to them. But Carnival also does a great job of providing venues and activities for people who prefer peace and quiet. Or if you're someone who likes a little of both, you can bounce back and forth.

  14. I would also like to see the free specialty dining and cabin upgrade given more than just one time when someone is Diamond. In general, Carnival benefits, especially for their Diamond level cruisers who are their top cruisers are lacking compared to most other cruise lines. Back in November of 2014, CEO Arnold Donald mentioned that, "Definitely plans are in the works for a loyalty program that would cut across the nine brands. We do not have that ready yet, but it's coming down the pike." I would like to hear more about this, but first I guess we must find out how long this "pike" is, since it has been over 7 months since he made that statement.

If that is implemented, I wonder if they would combine days / points currently held by a single person across multiple brands.

If my loyalty points stacked from each brand, I'd be higher for that combined, cumulative number than I am now for any individual cruise line.

    Wonder how that will work.
