It is a shame that there has been such a decline in NCL. Five days without a working toilet in your cabin is unacceptable. I hope NCL will read this and make needed improvements. 

Following this thread so that if a power up opportunity is offered, I’ll know about it. 

5 days without a working toilet in your cabin…that is uncalled for. Sounds like the Jewel has maintenance and service issues. We were fortunate to encounter none of that on our sailing on the Jewel this spring. NCL needs to get its act together. 

Dog hog, that’s why we are trying Celebrity…we want to avoid mega ships 

Our first cruise on Celebrity will be on the Eclipse this January. I want have the way it used to be as comparison so I expect to be happy with the Eclipse. 
 

im not thrilled with the mega ship trend so the Eclipse should be good for us. 

We were on the Jewel this spring and enjoyed the Le Cirque Bijou show. It was amazing. To anyone sailing on the Jewel, this is a don’t miss performance. 

I just got back from my cruise tour with Holland America and haven’t been checking cruise critic. Thought I’d see if perhaps you had posted anything about your trip since you indicated that you would not do a “live from” for this cruise. I was delighted to discover this. 

You know that feeling when a cruise comes to an end and it’s time to put your luggage out?  It seems too fast. Well I feel the same with the end of your cruise.

I like bagpipes in very small doses. However, IMHO bagpipes are not INDOOR instruments!  Bagpipes on the dock at sail away…great!  Indoors in an atrium with loud acoustics 🙀

Sorry to hear the Regal is a let down after your wonderful experience on the Island Princess. Last year, we sailed on the Norwegian Star and I said no more NCL for me. Then this spring we sailed on the Jewel and it was better. It seems that cruise lines vary from ship to ship. Your review of the Island Princess had me wanting to book a Princess cruise. 

Oh I hate smoke. Perfumed air freshener would only make it worse. Hope you can move.

In 2016 we visited Barcelona. Even then there were homemade banners hanging from balconies saying No Tourists. We stayed in an STR. We were there for 10 days. I will say that Barcelona opened my eyes to the damage STRs can do to a local housing market. 
 

even here in the US STRs are causing problems by reducing the housing supply for residents. I take the attitude that when you know better do better. I haven’t stayed in a STR  since 2016. I prefer not to live in a neighborhood where my neighbors are tiny hotels. We have one STR on my block.  It is very well managed. However, if we had 5 or 10 STRs it would impact the character of our neighborhood.

Some cruise lines allow passengers to bring a bottle of wine on board at embarkation without an additional charge. Other cruise lines charge a corkage fee even for one bottle of wine. What is Holland America’s policy?. I looked in the website but couldn’t find the answer.

As I recall we took a shuttle to downtown and walked around from there. 

If you like museums, Nuuk has a great museum for such a small town. Also we saw a whale spouting out in the bay when we were walking around Nuuk. 

Just found this thread and loving it.  Last year I read your live report from Norwegian Star and thought it was spot on in the description of the Star. This really makes me want to try a Princess cruise. We took a Princess cruise 10 years ago and felt the passengers were a good bit older than us. I think now we have aged into that demographic. 😀
 

we visited Nuuk last year when we were on the Star, we loved Nuuk. So glad that you are at least going to make that Greenland port. 

Okay, probably a dumb question. What about gratuities?  I’m guessing the regular daily gratuities when on board, but what about the land portion?

I have really enjoyed this live report. Thanks for taking the time to share this trip. It made me want to go to Dubrovnik, but skip Santorini. Have an easy, uneventful trip home. 

I think this is a positive change. After all, port fees and taxes are not optional. I like knowing the full price when I’m researching a cruise.
