  1. I was watching a video of Allure last night which showed a recent cruise where the hot tubs and pools were closed after 7 PM. There were signs across them stating closing hours at 7 PM.

Can someone confirm that this is always the case or only on certain days?

There was one hot tub that remained open, but with a ship of 5,000 people, one hot tub isn’t gonna cut it!

I was looking forward to a late night under the stars.

  2. Boarding Day Lunch:

    Park Cafe/Cafe 270

    Or

    Windjammer Cafe

    Or

    Specialty Restaurant (and which one)?

Normally, we would go to Cafe 270 or the Park Cafe, however, on this cruise there are 7 of us, making it less likely that we’ll get a table unless we book a specialty restaurant.

What’s your preference? Would it be different if you were traveling with a smaller/larger party?

  3. My 5 and 11 yr old daughters are avid shell collectors (whatever that means).

It seems that sea shells were difficult to find on our last cruise, so i’m seeking advice in advance of our next cruise.

What beaches offer us the best chance for the kids to collect shells and for the adults to enjoy a nice beach day?

We’re stopping at St. Maarten, San Juan and Labadee.

    Thank you in advance!

  4. After much anticipation, we are finally on our Viking ocean cruise in the Caribbean. We decided to try Viking after reading all of the great reviews and seeing their numerous awards. Like many of you, we to get tired of jewelry sales, photographers, and the push to upsell. With that being said, after one week so far on the Viking Sea,my husband and I Are booking our next cruise again with celebrity. We have only taken one celebrity cruise in the past, on the silhouette, and we really enjoyed it. We are 58 and 70, and have found the average age on Viking to be higher than what we expected. I think the Viking product is great if you love to read, love classical music or quiet piano music. The evening entertainment is decent with a collection of singers, and the band excellent. But the songs so far have definitely appealed more to a older generation. Not really a club for dancing if you enjoy that. The pool is definitely quiet, no games, but no music either. Things we miss from Celebrity - Martini and Sunset bars. There was more activity, and more of a “vacation vibe”. I’m not looking for a raucous party, but I like to feel some sort of “hey, we’re on vacation!” spirit. It seems most everyone on Viking is retired, so maybe coming from a different perspective. We stayed in Aqua on celebrity, and I think our room was just as nice as what we have here on Viking. Balcony is just the same. A lot of people have talked about how good the Viking food is an over all it is good. However, there’s just nothing special about going to dinner on Viking. It’s almost too casual, And although some people like the clean Scandinavian design, I think it is rather cold. We felt that our dinners in blu and especially Murano were just as good as what we’ve had On board here. If anyone has more questions, I’d be glad to answer them but for now it’s off to one of our excursions here in Aruba!

I believe that the cruise lines offer two very different experiences by design.

It is my understanding that the Viking experience is more focused on a connection with the sea and the journey to get to a destination, while more main-stream cruise lines focus on disconnecting from the day-to-day grind of life and just relaxing.

  5. I was able to answer my question by searching You Tube.

This video spells out the experience that one family had on the excursion, which includes the dance party when you get back on board.

Watch the video until the end to get a full picture and to help you decide if it’s worth it for you and your family.

  6. We had it booked for the five year old and hoped to squeeze the three year old in to the after party. I couldn't find much info on CC about details either. Then due to hurricane we got Labadee canceled anyway so it become a moot point.

Good luck, I would give it try all they can say is no.

Thank You! Sorry it didn’t work out for you. It’s a shame that there isn’t much information out there on this.

    Hopefully someone posts their experience

  7. Not many answers on the thread that I just saw. Hoping for some more up-to-date information.

Is the scavenger hunt waterpark on Labadee the same as the "regular" water park (not the fountains)

Can you go to the Trolls dance-party when you get back on-board if you don't participate in the scavenger hunt?

We have an 11 yr old who isn't very interested in this, and then a 4 yr old that is really excited?

Do they still do a DreamWorks sail-away party in the aqua theater when Allure leaves Ft. Lauderdale?

Thank you in advance for the information.

  8. The prices will be cheaper than they are on board. If you see a lower price before your cruise you can cancel and rebook at the lower rate.

Diamond members get 1 free 24 hour period of internet.

If you book a restaurant package you have to choose your restaurants on board.

Am I reading this correctly, that I can't reserve restaurants in advance of boarding through my cruise planner if I want to use the discounts that I purchased during this sale?

  9. RC is currently running an up to 30% off sale, which ends tomorrow.

We're trying to figure out how to best calculate if it's worth it for all of us to purchase the beverage and internet packages and if this is truly a sale, or have the prices been boosted to accommodate the discount?

Other considerations are that some of us are Diamond members and I believe that some of us will get a day or two of free wi-fi.

Specialty Restaurants: do we have to select which restaurants and when at the time we pay for these in advance or can we wait?

Price matching: If RC runs a different sale and we find that the costs are lower, are we entitled to the lower price?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you in advance!

  10. Sorry forget, I don’t think Celebrity wants copy anything from rccl as this caters a different market

I don't have a basis other than my business sense, which thinks in terms of efficiencies and how easy it would be to repurpose an already existing design.

When it comes to catering to a different market, you can look no further than common practices in the automotive industry between Honda and Acura, Toyota and Lexus, Nissan and Infiniti, Volkswagen and Audi.

There are models that span brands based on the same platforms.

While these may not be the same hull (or maybe it is), don't rule out the concept of leveraging existing plans across builds if there are benefits to be realized.

  11. I'm new to Celebrity, but as I'm getting old, I'm finding myself seeking elegance over the active lifestyle.

I may be trading in my RC find for X find after seeing Edge.

I'm sure in not the first to suggest this, but is Eden the same as 270 on Anthem, at least specially?

It looks like the love child of Two70 and Wonderland and it looks amazing!

Is this ship class "Quantum Class re-imagined"? Same hill, dimensions, etc.?

As always,. love your posts Lloyd! Can't wait to see the same for Icon when she starts to take shape!

  12. Branson admits that cruising is not his cup of tea.

There are things like big dining rooms and buffets (do they even exist any more on ships?) which he doesn't like.

I can't wait to see what he does, but one thing is for sure- whatever it is, it will change the industry.

What do you think will be of Virgin Voyages?

  13. The official announcement for Virgin Voyages has taken place long ago, steel cutting has already occurred and yet there isn't a forum for this cruise line.

Many have asked repeatedly for one to be created.

For the Cruise Critic Administrators, please create a a Virgin Voyages thread for all of your loyal fans to contribute to and speculate on.
