  1. WOW! I just got an email from RC that I can now book advanced reservations and drink packages against my OBC!

I haven't tried it yet, but I wanted to give them a big shoutout for listening!

  2. Today is the first day without rain! A lot of cancelations on iFly and Northstar. Luckily my family was able to enjoy iFly before getting closed.

For those living in the NY area there's an iFly in Yonkers that was recommended by the trainers. It's larger than the facility on the ship. Can't wait to take my son and grandson and Lego is nearby too. We will make them very happy.

It's right off of 87, Ridge Hill, near Stew Leonard's.

Unfortunately, I believe it's pretty expensive.

Following along and thoroughly enjoying your review.

Thank you for taking the time and posting!

  3. As somebody that does everything that I can to ensure a drama-free vacation, I'm curious to find out if there's a way to confirm my OBC provided by my Travel Agent, ahead of my cruise.

I'd hate to board and find out that they didn't apply the credit to our account.

I'm not sure what to do in that event, since it's not furnished by RC.

  4. I totally missed that when I originally read the post.

"When you change out my mattress, can you also make the water in my toilet drain counterclockwise and shift my cabin three feet to the left?"

Not quite the same. If your mattress is uncomfortable, they do have extra mattresses (maybe not a lot, but I'm sure they keep some on hand).

But I'm guessing that Harry Potter they're not.

  5. Mine was in Music Hall. There were 2 videos one on cleaning hands the second went over lifejackets and how the lifeboats/rafts work. Be sure they scan your seapass card when you enter your assigned area. Lifejackets are not in your room so need to bring them, they have them in closets in every muster station.

I've been wondering about this for a while, so I decided to just put it out there- possibly asking a stupid question or asking something that may have been asked and responded to several other times...

From a safety perspective, isn't it safer to have these in the cabin?

If everyone runs to the station (and some will panic), getting to the lifejackets will be difficult. Add to that, there is a possibility of a fire, which would prevent you from getting to your muster station if the fire is in that area of the ship, and then what do you do? I guess you could argue that if the fire were in the area of your cabin, what do you do, but in that scenario, it is possible that you're in your cabin and if you can't get out, you may be able to get out through your balcony (no, not overboard, but to the adjoining balconies, and then ultimately to another part of the ship).

  6. So I guess we are speculating that the cheaper the cabin the harder the mattress?

"If you want a good nights sleep you need to buy a suite" is the new Royal Jingle/slogan?????

I'm not speculating at all. Just looking to see if there are any patterns.

Inside cabins vs outside vs balcony. They may have a reason based on configuration to have sourced mattresses from different suppliers.

I'm not going in with any pre-conceived notions.

  7. I'm curious if type of cabin/location of cabins play a role here as well as type of bed (sofa bed vs regular bed) and bed arrangement (together Vs. Apart).

Maybe we can find a pattern here.

If you wouldn't mind, please include this information. I'm going to put together a spreadsheet and will publish the results by the end of the week. Please include your cabin number and date that you sailed. It may be possible that someone had the same cabin and that the mattress was swapped out at some point.

  8. Both the positive and negative reviews of Anthem seem to have one thing in common:

The dislike of the beds, which have been described as rock hard.

Is this accurate? Why do you think this is the case? Do they have a different supplier? Are the beds just too new?

    What was your experience?

If the mattress is too hard, can you get it switches out?

I wonder if anyone has asked to get a new one from the steward and if that made a difference.

  9. The gratuity is on the package, so you pay the $49 ( or whatever they claim the price is that day) plus 18% gratuity. You will get a slip with each drink that will have a zero balance to sign. You can add additional tip to that if you choose.

Thanks! I think that I'd feel obligated to tip each bartender, but that'd drive me nuts that I've pre-paid gratuity and am paying again. Each person is different, but I wish they'd just leave it off.

Do most people feel obligated/pressured to provide additional tips?

  10. Just for grins and giggles, I added the premium to my cart for allure. It indicated 18% will be added (to the $39 = $46). I added to my cart for my Feb cruise where Premium is $57 and it stated tax was already included. Based on that, $57 less 20% discount is $45.6.

Sorry for my ignorance and I'm sure this has been posted somewhere....

Is the 20% gratuity against the package price or is per drink (get charged a 20% gratuity based on the list price of your drink every time you get a drink even if is included in your drink package)?

  11. Really not that expensive, if you are doing multiple family photo sessions, as well as other shots at dinner, in ports, etc., and you want to collect them all. That $299 includes as many pictures as you want. Okay, maybe it's not "cheap," but not all that unreasonable. Many professional photographers would charge you about half that much just to have a sitting, and you definitely wouldn't get a disk with digital copies of every shot and a copyright release to use them however you please.

These are not what I would consider professional photography quality.

We've had better or same quality family pictures taken at Target studios (not that we'd suggest them for weddings and big occasions) for cards and they are pennies on the dollar compared to this.

These are mass photographs, where each one looks the same as the last. They don't really have much of an artistic quality about them, from my experience.

I think a fair comparison would be to Disney World (something like $160 for unlimited pictures, with much better quality).

    This is double that.

Expensive is something that's subjective, but to me it's nuts.

I may just buy the ones that I like and supplement them with my own pictures.

I do think the Cruise In Review DVD is a good value, and it usually includes a tour of the ship (not that you can't fine dozens of those on YouTube today).

  12. Possibly. Thay might also have stock 'shrinkage' issues, so want to check that the stock that is going out is actually being ordered by guests....

    I'm much more cynical.

I tend to think that they will look at the data to find trending for types of drinks and at which hours.

Then they'll pull the more popular drinks so that you have to drink them at the bar.

After all, the bulk of the drink data comes not from the DL/CL, but from bars.

The DL/CL data is a tiny blip on the radar when it comes to inventory.

  13. I'll pay for the cruise in review, but i refuse to pay for the photo package at that price.

The Disney package was also unlimited in the quantity of photos as is this one, but was half the cost.

They do offer smaller packages. Below are the prices if you order in advance.

10 digital photos $174.99, 15 Digital Photos $249.95, All of your digital photos $299.95, All of your digital photos + prints $399.99.

These prices will be higher on-board!!!

  14. We went to Disney World, where they give you a CD with all of your photos and a DVD of the park photos.

Additionally, they take photos called something like "magic moments" where they ask you to pose certain ways and they place Tink or other characters in the palm of your hand, next to you, etc.

It was totally worth the $160.

RC is out of their friggin minds!

  15. I just logged onto the Countdown to Cruise site and clicked on the button for Photo Packages & Products.

Historically, I've always purchased our photos and the Cruise in Review DVD.

I figured I'd just save some time and purchase this now.

The link takes you to what looks like an external site 'Image Group' - My Cruise Photos.

Pick the ship name and Voyage Date and click on Submit.

Cruise DVD - Only $23.99. I think that this is well worth it, even though it's a bit expensive.

Add 'Our Cruise Photos' - All of your photos in digital format - $299.99!!!

    Is it just me?

Are there incentives on-board? Diamond member discounts?

A$330 cart seems a bit nuts, given it's proportion to the cost of a fare.
