Or were from Canada. We did a May cruise in the Ukraine and they were the only ones in shorts most of the time.

We have heard all sorts of reports as to what the numbers will be, anywhere from 50% of cabins to 100% of cabins. No way of knowing which is right.

Hmm. Not in my mailbox. I have not gotten anything from Viking since we booked except ads and responses to my e-mails to TellUs -- not even the standard welcome e-mail.

Confused. Booking for shorex has been available for the July 10 cruise since May 7.

Oops sorry, keep me straight. I’m on the July 13 sailing. It’s early!

On the July 17 sailing and woke up to an email from Viking today.  Got all excited.  Thought it might be about excursions.  Nope.  It was about the required Health Questionnaire - exciting also cuz it is getting real.

Ha! I experienced the same excitement when I saw the email! I thought they were going to tell me shore excursions would be posted soon. We’re on the July 10 sailing.

  3. Here’s another Viking novice question. Our dining reservations window opens tomorrow. Right now I have 6:15 at the MDR every night. Is there any reason not to book an alternate restaurant on the first night? I always wanted to eat in my “home” restaurant the first night on my other cruises because if you get a nice spot they keep sitting you there every night. Also, we leave port at 6 on several days. Will I be sorry I’m heading toward the dining room instead of watching sail away in any port? No one may be above to answer these random questions that swirl in my head when I’m planning, but any thoughts are appreciated.

  4. Please forgive me for asking so many questions. I am on the July 13 sailing and shorexs   haven’t opened for us yet. I was wondering if someone that has visited Iceland before could give some advice. Which excursion in what port do you think would give me the best chance of seeing Puffins? Many of them mention “birds”. Also, we aren’t going to be able to extend our stay on either end. Because of this, the Blue Lagoon might not happen. Has anyone visited one of the 2 other thermal water venues listed in the shore excursions? Lastly, if we book an optional excursion do we have a chance to cancel it later? Many cruises under my belt but only one RC with Viking.

Shipster: We're also on the July 13 sailing and are not yet seeing shore excursions. I've been having problems with MVJ and am kind of glad to know I'm not the only one still waiting!

(If anybody else is having trouble getting into MVJ, what worked for me was switching browsers from Safari to Chrome.)

Well I haven't had problems logging in to MVJ, it just tells me there are no shore excursions available. It's reassuring, at least, that you don't see any either. I was quite concerned when all the previous sailings were reporting they had booked excursions yesterday.

  6. We have postponed our Viking Danube River cruise from March 14 2020 to March 28 2021. To depart in 9 days seemed foolhardy . Cases have been reported in Budapest, Vienna and Prague all cities we would visit as well as Frankfurt , the gateway city we fly thru. Also many tourist destinations where large groups might gather have been closed.

    Everyone stay safe out there!

We’re still on the fence about the same cruise leaving after that one-March 25. What information do you have about closures? I couldn’t find anything yesterday.

  7. shipster60,
I know what you mean with the spelling on phones, don't worry about it. My stubborn smartphone took a long time to accept that I mean Maxau on the Rhine, not Macau.

But to your question: the weather can be really varied at that time of year, so I join in with the common chorus saying "dress in layers".[emoji2]

When I went beginning of April we had had snowfall two days before I arrived in Passau, it was cold. On the return leg from Budapest it was sunny and about 15 degrees. Your temperature may span from zero at night on one day to 20 Celsius in the afternoon on another. I find accuweather.com quite good for planning, but tend to use wetter online for looking up daily info (in German).

A note on Viking and the itinerary: I find it smart thinking of the company to start in Passau rather than Nuremberg or Straubing as it avoids the low water area. They might not do it for that reason alone, but it is good anyway. Hope it gives you time to explore the beautiful town. A bit of advice if I may when exploring in a group: I have heard a tiny rumour that the Passau people are not so happy with the huge red Viking umbrellas these days, so if you want to pretend you are not in the group invest in a smaller foldable one that fits in a bag. Perhaps in a local shop? It would make G.M.T. happi(er). [emoji2]

Anyway, have a great time with our without umbrella. Budapest is amazing, I would love to go back.

Thanks so much for your reply. I always take a travel umbrella so I’ll be sure to use mine[emoji16]

    shipster60,

Happy to help. I am sorry to read that you - I presume - had to switch itineraries due to what is happening in China.

The Danube is a great river to explore, even if it is not exotic. From Passau, hmm, a European company?

Sorry about the bad spelling. I should never do this on my phone. Yes, our cruise was cancelled due to Coronavirus. We will be on Viking. We chose this itinerary because we can leave in March on the same dates we had set aside for the other cruise. We’re doing 3 days pre cruise in Prague. I know it’s variable, but what weather should we expect?

  9. You guys are so helpful. You convinced me to go for a corner aft SS. I chose the 9th deck port side. I was able to find a video of the room. I don’t know how my TA did it but she got it for only $40 more than our current Aqua and $100 more obc. Now to wait til June 2021! We’re supposed to leave in March for China but that is looking less promising.

  10. I can upgrade from Aqua to SS for 2021 cruise for $400 total. The staterooms available are mostly on Deck 12. I’m looking at those on the hump. I read the sticky on S class staterooms and they are mostly favorable. I see there is no overhang. Also, most of the SS on every deck are available for the corner aft, but I read the window washing equipment obstructs the view. We’ve always stayed in Aqua class, so any advice is appreciated.

  11. I'm the OP.  I'm in an Aqua stateroom and I changed my booking to NRD with all 4 perks in the last promo. This morning it was showing a reduced price and adding all 4 perks for no additional cost. They must not have had their last promo completely changed over, or my cookies was saving it, or some other glitch. Because now its will only show RD deposit on the side with the 3 perks. When I first posted her, it was only showing RD on both sides, now it's showing NRD deposit on the left and RD on the right. Every time, it's something different. In the meantime, the price has gone back up again anyway. This thread just shows how frustrating it all is. Oh well, it will be a great cruise no matter what. I'm grateful I'm blessed to be able to cruise at all. Thanks for all your input.

  12. I know this has been addressed before, but now I can’t find it. I’m trying to see if my cruise has gone down in price. I currently have it booked with the NRD   The first time I searched it gave me the the NRD prices only and it had gone down $600. I just wanted to double check I had done everything correctly before bothering my TA, but now it will only let me price it in RD mode, which is not lower. Both choices on the screen are RD whether I choose the lowest priced side or the best value side. I even tried using a private browser. How do I see the NRD price again? The website is so frustrating. Can I call Celebrity and ask myself? I know I can’t make the changes, but will they give me the information ? Thanks for any help.

  13. No, on Reflection there is an extra deck between our floor and the pool deck. There is a supply closet outside the room and I occasionally heard some noise I think was coming from there. But, overall very quiet and so convenient to everything because it's close to stairs and elevator.

  14. Thank you so much. This is such good information. We do sail into Yokohama and I knew it was out of Tokyo but I wasn’t sure how far. I’m planning to book a private tour for just us so hopefully we can keep our luggage with us, we don’t travel with a lot. Staying in Tokyo near the Narita train sounds best. Now, I just need to decide how to get to the airport in the morning, either train or private transfer. Good thing I have a little time.

  15. I know there are some posts about hotels already, but I need some specific advice. Our cruise ends in Tokyo and we fly out the next morning at 11 am from Narita airport. I plan to book a tour for our Tokyo arrival day to see a Tokyo. Hopefully they will meet us at the port. Would it be best to book a hotel near the airport? If so which one? Any advice is appreciated. I’d love more time in Tokyo but can’t afford it this time.

  16. Finished a great Mediterranean Cruise today. Our first time on Reflection and she is beautiful. I wanted to  a few thins that are often asked about. We were in an Aqua stateroom on the hump. Our balcony was large and when we arrived we had two chairs with footstools and two lounge chairs like those around the pool. The loungers really took up too much room. We asked for them to be removed and they were after the second day. Our room steward was also able to change our canapés for a cheese plate and our sparkling wine for red.  I’d be glad to answer any other questions.
