  1. Can you please enlighten me on the major downgrade? I'm not being funny, I truly don't understand?

Concierge lounge, Diamond Lounge??/ Isn't this just like tomato- Toomaato?

I just turned Diamond so I guess I want to know what disappointments I'm in for. ;)

But believe me I am truly happy to be diamond and being able to go into any lounge (Diamond or Concierge)

If you just turned Diamond, you won't get into any concierge lounges. You need to be D+ for concierge lounge access. You will get access to Diamond lounge.

  2. I wonder if it's ship to ship? Brilliance in Oct piña coladas and mudslides weren't included. Or how many CRs are on board. Or lack of knowledge by the bar staff. I always went to the bar to get it. One bartender made the toasted almond much better then others.

I'm still curious if I get a sticker for soda/water will they refund my already paid for soda package.

No. Soda package you can use anywhere on the ship. Coupons are for use in casino only. If they paid for package it defeats the purpose of free casino drinks;)

One ship we were on they gave us a price limit, but I only recall it being on one ship.

    After thought.

You can cancel package and just get drinks in casino if desired.

  3. Are you kidding me? People are already confused and are clueless about what's going on with the Quantum class in terms of dining (and other things) - do you think what RCI calls it makes a difference? (Rember that the motto for Quantum class is - "this changes everything")

Dynamic Dining Classic and Dynamic Dining Choice is too long so they'll just shorten them to Choice Dining and Classic dining - and someone in marketing will get a raise for it when all of a sudden people like it (when in reality not much changed to the actual product).

I agree a name is a name, and the concepts behind the names will remain the same, for now:D. At the moment though, from what I can tell, the only name change is adding a word at the end to make it two versions of a concept. If they were going to rename it completely then why not do it when they added the alternative. ?

The whole point of my original post was to respond to someone that made it sound like DD is not on anthem, and my point was it is, that they had just added an alternative version of it in addition to the original version of DD and that DD is still being marketed in the name of both versions.

  4. It's all marketing. The term Dynamic Dining is not off to a good start, so what do you do to ward off the poor image? You take a page from Disney and brand it Classic Dining (with no mention of the word Dynamic).

Then to keep the theme going, you take the original DD concept and rebrand it as Choice Dining.

See, probelm solved. Every one loves it then.

I get your point. But they are still marketing it on their website as DD classic or DD choice. The Dynamic is still in their wording on their webpage I posted a link to. Also the post I responded to only mentioned classic available not choice? My understanding was the original concept of DD still an option, but they had ADDED classic as an alternative, not got rid of DD.

If they just reworded it to choice or classic then they run the risk of confusion on ships that don't offer dd, as people MAY assume traditional is classic and MTD is choice, but still expect all the variety of restaurants and options that dd entails. IMHO just using choice or classic won't differentiate the difference in dinning experience between ships currently offering DD and those that don't. Eventually, if/when all the ships fleet wide get, then they can go for a generic name.

  5. As others have stated no more Dynamic dining on Anthem but now called Classic dining with 2 sittings and a rotation of complimentary dining venues.

    Worked well for us.

    Food was great.

 I thought DD still an option but you had a choice of DD choice or DD classic

Welcome to Dynamic Dining — a world of culinary exploration onboard Royal Caribbean®. Dynamic Dining is a new take on the main dining room, reimagined to give you a culinary experience at sea as vast, varied and eye-opening as dining in the world’s most cosmopolitan cities. Discover the culinary curiosities of Wonderland Imaginative Cuisine. Savor the handcrafted fare and craft beers of Michael’s Genuine® Pub. Experience it all with our signature personal service as we elevate the concept of dining at sea. When Anthem launches this April, you can choose one of two different ways to experience Dynamic Dining.

Dynamic Dining Choice gives you the freedom to pick and choose your restaurants and dining times each day and night. Our unique venues feature menus that change throughout the cruise, with guest favorites and new specialty dishes to ensure everyone at the table will find something they love.

Dynamic Dining Classic is a new option for those who prefer the traditional main dining style with the same dining time each night, with the same wait staff and dining companions throughout the cruise. Dynamic Dining Classic is available on a first come, first serve basis.

  6. Agree...Sorry but I don't get why making a reservation is such a concern for cruiser's...its "MTD" and the point of that is "flexability".

I wasn't so thrilled with MTD when it was first introduced but after using it several times since...We enjoy the option to dine when we want to.

Again...sorry..and thanks for listening...but just an opportunity to stand on a soapbox (something I tend not to do) about a subject that I am seeing many posts about lately.

We like reservations as we prefer to eat early and at those peak times there can be a lengthy wait, especially for a table by ourselves at that time.

Just because we want to eat early doesn't always mean traditional dining works. If we have an excursion that gets back 5 -5:30 then traditional dining would be a rush. We work out what time due back to ship, allow time to wash, change get ready and we book a time that works with that.

That way We don't get back and start feeling like we have to rush to try to get a table, or worry about queuing up just to get on the wait list. We know the table is there and we just turn up at the time we need to be there.

Everyone has their own preferences, but to me making a reservation is a lot easier than trying to check in with a long line of people that have not got reservations.

Some ships are better than others for this, but we have experienced one ship where the queue was so bad it blocked the entrance to the restaurant for those that had reservations. I was glad I didn't have to wait in that line.

Op reservations are recommended for a couple of reasons. One being, like Bob stated, restaurant management and planning. Two so that if guests are particular about the time they eat, it will be easier for them to try to accommodate as close to that time as possible. If 3000 people turn up first day all trying to book dinner reservations, that is a lot of pressure on the staff in such a short period of time. If no one made reservations it would cause a big headache at best!

I recommend booking a reservation for as close to the time desired now. And then once on board see if they can tweak it, or put on a waiting list for that time if still unavailable.

  7. We've had no trouble waiting (no more than 5 min.) for a 2 top table in MTD on several RCI ships lately. RCI won't just "put you" at a large table if that's not what you want...you may just have to wait for it...worth it to some of us. ;)

If you are happy to wait then yes. At peak times you may be waiting a while. My point was you don't just get a table to yourself if there isn't a two top available.

  8. If you want to eat quite early, I recommend booking as soon as you can. We left it late last year (still a few weeks before we sailed:eek:) and struggled to get a table sorted, so ended up with a table in first sitting.

Yes you can amend reservations on board.

  9. Most non-alcoholic cocktails ARE sodas, basically....rum and COKE, Vodka TONIC, etc...mixers are tonic, soda water, OJ, Tomato juice, seven-up.....

No. A cocktail is not "something" and soda.

If you look up the definition you will find as follows.

When a cocktail contains only a distilled spirit and a mixer, such as soda or fruit juice, it is a highball; many of the International Bartenders Association Official Cocktails are highballs. When a cocktail contains only a distilled spirit and a liqueur, it is a duo and when it adds a mixer, it is a trio. Additional ingredients may be sugar, honey, milk, cream, and various herbs.

Non alcoholic cocktails are non alcoholic versions of drinks like strawberry daiquiri, piña colada etc. the op is looking for cocktails not highballs!

  10. With MTD, you are seated with only YOUR party....no need to pre request a special size table.

There are not enough tables to only sit your party on a table. There are different sized tables. If you are a party of two and there are not any two tops they will put you on a bigger table with other guests. They don't just give a party of two a six top by themselves.

  11. On the NOS last year, it was held in a cordoned off section of the Viking lounge. They were only letting in those that had invites. The rest of the lounge was still open to other passengers.

When you sign up you can add all those that are in your reservation to the invitation list.

  12. Ok. He says he can't find it because they won't let him do anything until 90 days before the cruise. Is that possible?

He needs to be in preferences, not the booking itself. Preferences can be updated at any time. It's the section where you choose bed configurations etc.

There should be a section titled upgrade preferences.

  13. I've seen many cruises given away at slot tournaments. Only on three occasions that I recall (out of more than a dozen) did they not get enough participants to award a free cruise.

The one downside is that instead of giving a free cruise of your choice, they're giving away a specific cruise. That can make scheduling to take that cruise a challenge.

And yet we have always seen the opposite. We have seen the poker seats get won, but we have never been in one slot tournament that has had enough entries. Hopefully this year that will change:D

  14. We're headed out of San Juan on the RC Adventure of the Sea on May 3. Are there more shore excursion options once you board the ship? The published shore excursions guide does not have what we are looking forward to doing. So, I'm wondering if there will be more options once we board the ship? We want to do a catamaran tour to the Pitons at St. Lucia and the only one listed in the guide is a french-speaking tour.

    Thanks

Have you logged into your cruise planner to check if available in English, or are you looking at the downloadable brochure?

I would double check the planner first, especially if are selecting from the brochure as opposed to what is available for your specific cruise. I have seen some excursions that when you try to book they will have a language preference box. There are not many like that but there are some.

Seeing as you are quite close to sailing the online availability may be sold out. We have been informed in the past they keep a certain percentage for onboard bookings.

  15. Ship shape activities.

Back in the now far too distant past, when they used to do mini golf tournaments, bean bag throwing competitions etc around the ship and they gave out ship shape dollars which you could redeem for prizes, people actually turned up and participated in events. Now you are lucky if anyone turns up. Some prizes were better than others, but it made it a good fun social gathering.

It's a shame they stopped the horse racing as well.that used to be fun dressing up horses and seeing them go to dinner.

  16. You should prepare her for a letdown in case they catch it. I have read that they have caught this mistake before the person changed addresses and their points were reduced to the correct number that they actually sailed AND that their staus was reduced to what he parents status was at the time the child turned 18. Not saying it will happen but it could.

This is true, I've heard this happen several times. It seems to be caught the frist time the child cruises after they turn 18.

    Thanks Ken and Bob.

I know it catches up soon enough normally. I couldn't remember when. I had read something about the same address meant it wasn't picking up the disconnect automatically when people were becoming 18. RC system looks like it isn't very good at working out when it is someone's 18th birthday;) we all know how great their IT is:D

  17. Ya it makes sense. No I only set up my dd that is over 18. I'm glad she is diamond now cause she was really upset when I told her that the rest of us were turning diamond except for her. After I told her it looked like she was diamond after all, she was so excited ;) I guess she'll just have to stay at home :).

Hopefully it will be a a couple years before she has her own address and she'll have her own points.

She will keep the diamond regardless of where her points are at. They don't downgrade people:). No harm in giving her a few cruises in the meantime:D;)

  18. Firstly relax! It will be fine.

We started sailing with DD when she was 6 months. By 2 we had an easily foldable stroller with sun umbrella for her and reigns for when she wanted to walk. We didn't need to chase her anywhere! If she got tired we just pushed her in her stroller;)

We either went ashore and did our own thing or took short excursions to work around her. We had one excursion that family watched her and we had our own time. If you are travelling in a group they will happily help out watching your child if you want a quick swim!

My best piece of advice is don't over think it. Go with the flow and relax and enjoy it. We had been on land vacations with our DD prior to cruising with her, and the cruise was the easiest:D

  19. I'm not quite sure if thats true either. We just turned diamond 2 weeks ago with our Navigator cruise with 81 days. My daughter is 19 and I logged into her account expecting her to stay Emerald because she is 19 and both my daughters (other daughter is 17) have 14 days less days then my wife and I but she was showing Diamond :D and showing 81 days as well. So I'm not sure how she turned diamond but we'll take it. My daughters weren't on this cruise that made us hit 81. So her status changed to Diamond as well as her point value.

I have spoken to C&A several times. They can see my DD's exact points but for her current benefits level it reflects my points until she turns 18. If your daughters are both still listed under your address then they will likely go up status at the same time as you, but when they leave home it will disconnect from you and your wife. It has something to do with address that keeps it linked from what I understand, even though they are technically supposed to disconnect at 18.

I have had a lengthy discussion with C&A as DD is D+ in her own right and I will likely reach pinnacle before she reaches 21. There have been numerous debates on CC as to whether or not pinnacle can be passed to family members and as such I contacted C&A to check DD's points as she can not be set up with an online account until she is 18 to check her points. I tried but the system refused to create an account for her.

Because of how often we sail, I check regularly her points by having to call in. I know others have had issues with not getting credited correct points, and not being able to see online I don't want a major error in years to come. If one of your daughters is 17 then you should not be able to see her points online. You have to call in for those to be confirmed. Did you set up each of your daughters an individual user name and password connected to their individual C&A numbers? Because it shouldn't let you set up for a minor.

You will likely find that once your daughters disconnect from you by changing address or changing name if/when they get married, yes they will retain your status, but they will only have credits for actual nights completed. The system will catch up to the actual number of nights eventually, especially at pinnacle transition.

    I hope that makes sense.

  20.

The 'free' bag of laundry is just wash and fold. No ironing of anything. And, it can only include socks, underwear, pyjamas, bathing suits, undershirts, etc. No shirts, pants, blouses, dresses, etc. It's nice to get that 'under' stuff done, but you still have to have the 'good' clothes washed and paid for. :D

As stated a few posts above in post 51 this,we all agree, is what current D+ benefit is. The laundry being refered to is what people are hoping for regarding the new suite benefits, not the loyalty benefits. A lot of people are confusing them seeing the wash and fold package already exists to some guests.

When a thread starts on suites, then C&A benefits start getting discussed it can get confusing to follow:D
