  1. I just booked the Magic for myself and 2 of my kids (11 and 9) in 2 cabins. It states in their policy that if you have minors 12 and under, you cannot book using guarantee due to this possibility of happening.

They have stricter policies than NCL (where I had adjoining balconies with my 3 kids, ages 13, 10, and 8, at the time)

On Carnival you cannot put anyone age 12 or under in a balcony without an adult. Thus on this trip we have a balcony and an interior right across the hall. I tried for adjoining OV but those were sold out. We will all most likely sleep in one room, but I like having the extra space, bathroom, and tv. etc.

But I know that you cannot book guarantee if there is not an adult to book in the cabin. I know that some people split the adults and then switch when you get onboard, in my case, husband does not like to cruise, so we have fewer options.

RCI was similar to NCL, but we really wanted to try the Magic so we are going this way on this trip, and will try it out!

  2. Hi,

I just purchased Fttf for our upcoming Magic cruise in April. Our first on Carnival, (we did NCL last year, Getaway, awesome!) and are so excited. My question is this: how do they know at check in that you have FTTF? I assume it's on the documents, but wanted to ask more experienced cruisers! Thank you!

  3. I would call and ask, I am booking 2 OV on the Magic (can't get balconies because of the age of the kids), I am booking myself in one cabin and the kids in the other, just the most economically way to get more space. Since my husband (does not want to cruise) and my oldest (on her school trip) will not be with us, I have less choices in cabins. When I look, and mock book 3 in each cabin, several adjoinings are still available. However, when I mock book what we are actually doing, 1 and 2, there is only 1 pair of side by side OV available. When I called to inquire, they said, the other cabins had a minimum of 3 and would either have to pay that (lol), or take the next to each other cabins (which is obviously what we are doing)

  4. As someone whose family found poop on one of the inflatables at Blue Lagoon, which completely grossed us out and did not help the rest of our time there. (and on a different land a vacation, all 3 kids got sick from the pool at hotel in Lake Tahoe), I am glad it is enforced on the ships. As someone above posted, it's easy enough to get sick with so many people in such close quarters, without having to worry about the pool, too.

I know what it's like to have to keep a toddler busy, I have had 3, so I thank the OP for asking this advance! I am sure there will be lots of things for you to find for him/her to do, or you will bring stuff to entertain

  5. Kids are 9 and 11, (last year my 14 was with us, too, on NCL. This year she is on a class trip. That's why I can't get balconies this trip

Looking at the Magic. I called the Pvp, and yes, some cabins saved for at least 3

  6. Hi,

I am a new cruiser (only 2 in the last 25 years, one on HAL to Alaska 25 years ago, and 1 last year on NCL getaway).

I am looking to book 2 Ocean View, and would like adjoining for 3 travelers total. I have talked to a PVP and done my own research through CCL website.

When I put in 1 room 3 travelers many options, 2 adjoining options, in particular, come up. But when I do 2 rooms, with 1 and 2 travelers in each, different ocean views show availability. Happy to do deluxe OV as well, they need to be OV because this is the highest category I can book with minors in their own room. I am the only adult traveling.

So my question is are there OV that are only for 3 or more people?

    Thanks!

  7. You do not have to have someone over 21 in the room. NCL will allow minors next door, within 3 cabins down, or across the hall. It is easier to book if you have an adult to book in the room and then switch but you do not have to. I was on the Getaway last year with my 3 kids (husband not a cruiser) and we had 2 balconies, adjoining. However, we had the choice of an interior across the hall, etc. The only company I have found that won't do it at all is Disney, the others have some sort of policy that allows it. NCL is nice because if you want, they will put kids in a balcony, whereas on CCL we are looking at booking Ocean views, because they have a policy of over 12 in a balcony. RCI and Celebrity policy similar to NCL

  8. Hello everyone, I think I know the answer to this, but wishful thinking is prompting me to ask the question.

Are the kids allowed to be in a club that is close to their age? My question is about my 9 year old, who was 8 last year on the Getaway, and while we had a fantastic time, she did not like the club because the breakdown is 6-9, she would prefer to be in the next group up. On every other cruise line, it seems that the breakdown is 6-8, which would place her in the older group.

I believe they are not allowed to change, she would have a sibling in the older group, if that matters.

    Thank you!

  9. The reason I was told by my NCL rep last year that pre checkin was not showing up is that they do a mock reservation, fudging one of the kids' ages to allow the computer to make the reservation, take payment, etc. and then when you check in, in person, they change it to reflect their actual ages

We had an awesome time and it was great to have adjoining rooms, more space, 2 bathrooms, 2 tvs, 2 couches, etc. Have a great time!

  10. Each cruise line has their own rules, NCL is pretty lenient, which is nice. I traveled alone with my 3 (13, 10, 8) and we booked adjoining balconies with no problem. The only thing we could not do was online check in. This was not an issue, we checked in super fast at the port with no problem. This was on the Getaway last April.

From my research, Disney you cannot do it at all, Carnival allows across the hall or next door, but balcony only if there are people 13 or older in it (other categories, no problem. This year I am going on the Magic with my 11 and 9 year old, in 2 ocean views, as I am the only adult), Celebrity and RCI, like NCL restriction to across the hall or within 3 doors down

  11. Hello!

I am looking for opinions from more experienced cruisers than myself. Last year, may 3 kids and I went on the NCL Getaway and had 2 connecting balcony rooms. It was a great trip!

I am now excitedly in the process of planning a trip on the Magic for myself and the younger 2 kids (oldest will be on school DC trip and husband does not think he would like a cruise, strange I know!)

We liked having 2 rooms, (it meant 2 bathrooms and 2 tvs, etc), however Carnival won't book minors in a balcony room without an adult (they will do one balcony and one interior across the hall). So I am considering 2 Ocean View rooms (which I think they will do) or possibly an Ocean View suite.

I have not been in a suite before and would love opinions from people who know more about this than me!

    Thank you!

  12. Hi, I just did this exact thing, husband did not go traveled alone with 3 minors in 2 rooms, connecting balconies. You cannot do online check in when minors are booked in their own room due to age restrictions and the computer not recognizing it on ncls end. I think they fudge the birthdate for booking purposes and then change it to the correct one when you get there. Anyway, I showed up at the pier (Miami) with my printout of reservations and I'd and it was NO issue. Check in was super fast and easy, and no, we were not frequent cruisers or suite guests. I know it's tough, but don't worry, there was no issue at all. We were on the getaway in April

  13. We were on the Getaway last week, and had a great time. However, my 10 year old got very sick Monday night (2 am) and through the next day, he was sick that day, and started feeling better Tuesday night. We skipped our excursion (non NCL) in St. Maarten, and he was able to get off the ship Tuesday, etc. I did not report it, and now feel bad about that, but I was traveling alone with 3 kids, and it did not get worse (we did not get sick, he stopped throwing up by 10 am, stayed in the cabin all day, etc.) I am guessing it was something he ate, he and my older daughter had room service while me and my younger daughter were at the 70's party, and he was the only one who had ice cream with whip cream on it. I thought the cleaning crews were great, and had my own wipes, and always made the kids used hand sanitizer, washed hands, etc.

Anyway, I know things can happen and I don't blame NCL but it was not a fun experience, at least for that day. Anyone have any advice moving forward (if we were to cruise again), have you reported illness and what was done?

    Thanks!

  15. I am sailing on the getaway in a week, I have 2 balcony cabins, the price dropped $50/pp (200 total for us), called yesterday and got $50 total obc, they first looked for an upgrade, but since I have adjoining cabins and want it that way (there are none left at this time), they offered me $25 per cabin. I thought it was great, as I know they don't have to do anything. I figure it will pay for the soda package for me and my 3 kids or it will pay for 2 Illusionarium tickets. Call and see what happens ;)
