Jim Van Fleet was just a face to give guest the warm fuzzy feeling to those that need a therapy pony. The Captain gets all of the same information and also sees the present conditions at sea. With all the technology the Captain has to review he doesn't need someone sitting behind a desk telling him and a local pilot about local conditions. If a Captain with 20+/- years experience in some of the worst areas of the world is capable I don't think a failed Fox Orlando & Tampa Meteorologist will make a difference? Don't believe it Google it.

Tell me you have no clue how it actually worked without telling me.

Royal has started to drain their swamp of useless positions & waste. 1 down and 2 (possibly 3) more to go. https://twitter.com/JamesVanFleet/status/1659161312776056832?s=20

Yes because forecasting weather and the close integration between an on staff meteorologist and the ships captains’ to ensure best possible outcomes for guest safety was a waste of money. Use that thing between your ears for once.

  3. Apparently some of you do not listen in to Royal Caribbean Group earnings calls. CEO Jason Liberty, in the Q3 earnings call, stated in part, “demand for our experiences was very strong, and we achieved 96% load factors overall with the Caribbean at close to 105% at record pricing and high satisfaction scores”.

Further stated, “The value proposition of cruise remains incredibly attractive, I would say too attractive…..we received twice as many bookings for 2023 sailings in Q3, as we did in Q2, resulting in considerably higher booking volumes than during the same period for 2019 sailings…..as a result, all four quarters of 2023 are booked well within historical ranges at record prices, with bookings accelerating every week."

So, fully expect prices to climb regardless of inflation ir anything else well into 2023 and 2024 at least. At some point prices will cause demand softening and if continued, demand destruction. We are definitely not at these points.

I read that a refurbishment was postponed from a couple of years ago on Allure of the Seas.  Did the refurbishment ever happen or is it on a schedule to be done?  If I understand correctly, it hasn’t been refurbished since it sailed, correct?  Thanks.

Based on the utter uselessness of the WiFi whereupon 2 soup cans and string would likely serve you better, I would say that is correct.

  5. Who cares. My next cruise is to Alaska so we have the obligatory waste of time in having to stop in Canada for 5 hours (5p to 10p; like what in God's earth are you going to do with that time frame when you are packed for disembark 12 hours later) so we will have to test regardless. I would not be surprised if the Canadian government has this in place still come summer 2023.

     free wifi.

With Starlink agreement, I won't be surprised if in 5 years one still has to pay for internet. Look at the airlines, they started out with everyone having to pay by the hour. Now Delta will be rolling out free w-fi to everyone on the aircraft. At first domestic and then it will be international. Don't think UAL, AAL and the others won't follow suit due to FOMO and the passenger experience. As soon as Starlink is deployed fleet-wide and the bandwidth is such that 5,000+ people being on it won't bog it down, I fully expect it to be free. Especially if they can do so and CCL and NCL cannot. The caveat being they will likely adjust the cruise fare slightly to make up for the lost revenue. So, we will think we are getting a great perk when in fact, the cost is front loaded on the cruise fare.

I just found out that the pre-cruise Covid tests are now within 3 days of our cruise?????  When did that change occur?

Unless you're on an Alaska cruise because the Canadien government is doing their typical nonsense. All for just 2.98% of the cruise time of being docked in Victoria. 🤬

  8. So we get back into Pier 91 on Quantum Monday,  9/12. We originally had a 1205pm departure out of Sea-Tac but the airline changed the flight sked and its now 1130am. We plan on self-assisting off the ship and grabbing the first taxi we see. We are also TSA-Precheck. Anyone have any tips on any faster way to the airport if say Customs delays disembarking? I plan on bringing cash to encourage the driver to Mad Max it if need be.

Just Uber and Lyft.  Taxis and preferred shuttle vans are right there.

TIP!  Pay for a porter.  They will get you to the front of the taxi line and save you at least an hour of waiting in line for a taxi.

We did a taxi to the airport.  It was $80, maybe $20 $25 more expensive than a Lyft would have been.

Are the porters just outside the terminal when you disembark? I'll have a 20 spot ready to go if in fact they can get us to the head of the taxi line.

If you're disembarking on a weekday, you are at the mercy of Seattle rush hour traffic. One accident on I5 and you're looking at 45-60 minutes+ to get to SeaTac. Assuming you're checking luggage and have to wait in line, I would check with your airline to see when the luggage cut off time is for international flights.

Me personally - with checking a bag and without having Precheck and CLEAR, I would be too stressed on the last day to attempt it for an International flight.

So, we return to Seattle on a Monday on Quantum. Arrival back at the pier at 7am. We have a 1130am domestic from Sea-Tac. Are you a local? Looking for the fastest way to get to the airport, especially if Customs delays things. I am assuming there are taxis at the pier ready for anyone on a first come basis? If so, I imagine that is quicker than waiting on Uber. Worst case, I was thinking 1 hour to the airport so even if we get delayed until 8am on disembarking,  we would be okay. We are TSA Precheck as well.

I wish folks who don't want children onboard a family cruise line will consider taking a different CruiseLine/ or vacation and stop complaining about kids .  If you don't want kids onboard, don't take a line that caters to families. And, don't sail over summer or a major US holiday and complain even louder.  We've taken numerous cruises (many in the summer or over holidays) and can honestly say we've never been bothered by kids on board.   Have  we seen kids run in the hallway or get in the elevator before we've had a chance to get off, of course,  but who cares?   We recently sailed Easter week on Harmany with 1500 kids.  NO ISSUES.

    Lighten up

We want parents to simply keep control of the rugrats and not let them act like heathens. I'm sure you're the type whose kids act like fools yet you sit there oblivious with your utter lack of any parenting skills readily apparent to everyone around you.

This isn't really an important topic but I am hoping they still show the Thursday night football games while onboard with them being on Amazon Prime this year. Our team will be playing while we sail and we'd love to go to Playmakers for dinner that night to watch.

Nope, not going to happen. But I'm sure you'll love yet another cricket match or some Central American soccer match. See, RCCL only has the licensing rights to show ESPN Caribbean. That's why they don't show any any F1 races, only ESPN US has those licensing rights.
