  1. This is tragic. But yes, it's what most people would try to do even though it is the most unsafe. The safest thing is to have the child in the seat beside you, restrained as best you can. A toddler might fit the various portable harnesses available such as this one (I've not used that model, but I did use a similar one years ago) that could fit in a backpack.

we use the safe rider - and like it. what is does is reposition the seat belt straps so that they fit the child to keep him/her safe. Seatbelts are made for adults so if children use them - they can actually hurt/not protect the child in an accident.

btw- i've been asking tour companies if they have car seats and many did.

  2. just to make sure - i want to repeat back what i understand:

    1) OBB is good when you book a specific cruise and can lock in a price. You till have flexibility to change the cruise. Must transfer within 30 days for TA benefits.

    2) placeholder - for any cruise within 2 years. you do NOT lock in price. Must transfer within 30 days for TA benefits.

And the closer i can book to a release date - the better.

Correct. If you don't name a TA when making the onboard booking, you must transfer it within 30 days. It doesn't matter if you've booked a specific reservation or a placeholder, 30 days.
  3. Thank you! that's exactly the trip i am looking for. am trying to see if we can find an already established tour where we can buy tickets to join or an already existing tour where we can send the whole family.

We were able to do this through a ship's excursion, but unfortunately I didn't get the name of the tour operator. We took a bus from Naples to Salerno, then boarded a boat to go along the coast to Amalfi. We had about 45 minutes-1 hour to explore, then took the boat back to Salerno. There we boarded a bus to Pompeii, where we had lunch at a hotel's catering facility, followed by the ruins. We loved the tour, but understand you're going to get just a taste of both the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii.
  4. The advantage is you lock in the price at the time you book. If you know what cruise you want, the earlier you book it the better. The price tends to go up as the ship fills. With a placeholder you lock in the OBB benefits, but not the price of a cruise. A placeholder allows you to decide later and can be used for a cruise that hasn't even been released at that time.

that is much clearer! thank you. there are all these little nuances.

  5. An OBB is booking a specific future cruise while on board the ship. A placeholder reserves the benefits you get from an OBB for a cruise to be taken within 2 years of making the placeholder. The deposit for a placeholder is $250. You get all the benefits without having to pick a specific cruise while on the ship. With either one, the cruise has to taken within 2 years of the exact date you make the booking.

Thank you piglet. I assume that if you use OBB to book a specific cruise on board then you can't change it. and that you just wait for your PIF date and then do your checkin. etc...

Someone else's post was causing me some confusion..

I'm going on my 2nd cruise - and hopeful to be able to do a 3rd and i really want to find a way to take advantage of some savings. We did placeholder last time. But i didn't know about booking on opening day. so i'm going to try placeholder and opening day next time to max the savings.. and then maybe transfer to TA.

  6. Thanks. i don't think he can even book for my MIL and SIL because they don't have a child in their cabin.

    This is so ridiculous.

but thank you - i will call them directly.

They are not talking about booking a new cruise' date=' they are talking about booking activities (Royal Tea) on the existing reservation.

No, your brother cannot book the tea for your daughter; the booking window is for people in the cabin with the Gold designation. Neither can he book a reservation for 3 as there is no child in the cabin to place on the reservation. I think that your only option is to wait until your booking window opens and book for all 3 at that time. However, I'd call DCL and check on this--they might permit you to book a reservation for 3 adults at the time of his window opening and switch one to a child when your window opens.[/quote']

  7. just wanted to say thanks for posting the question about the daylights hours- made me stop and think how that might impact my trip.

we're traveling mid june when the days will be longer, so sun might be setting just after main seating - and perhaps we can watch it from a deck. I can also try to time my Palo dinner to watch sunset from there. And since it sets later - the fireworks will also be definitely after dinner. (there was some talk about it happening in between dinners). PLUS i get to enjoy views of the sea until later a night.

We were in Alaska for our 1st Disney cruise - and we could watch the scenery so late into the night! I loved it.

Best of luck with your trip and stay safe!

  8. 5. Is there anything great in Marseille to see before or after the cruise? We're taking a train in and out of Marseille via Paris, so we want to allow as much time in Paris UNLESS Marseille has something worth our while.

    Thoughts anyone?

Around Marseille I've found a TON to see and do. We are planning our Med cruise for June 2018. Avignon, Arles, Aix en Provence, Luberon, Les Baux en Provence..
