  1. I do not take offense easily, but you absolutely disgust me. I am a dairy farmer's daughter and was brought up with class and character. I also worked 7 days a week milking cows, along with the making hay, harvesting crops and feeding animals. My family's idea of a vacation when I was growing up was a night away for a ballgame if we could get someone to milk. We worked Christmas Day and when if you were sick. We also cleaned up well and knew how to behave in public respectfully. I work today with so many people who have no work ethic at all, and no respect.

The rural community where I was raised had more manners, kindness and integrity than I have ever seen in any city where I have worked, visited or lived. We are all different, and I respect our differences. I do not cut down on your heritage, and how dare you cut down on mine. Without the farmers, you would have no food on your table. I would thank heavens before every meal you eat, that farmers are still willing to work hard to make a living. I invite you to spend a day on the farm and learn some manners yourself!!!!!!!!

From the aunt of a future farmer (not sure how that will happen as we live in a suburb of Chicago), you tell them!!!

  2. I was on Majesty in August, 1993 and December, 1994. Our itinerary was Western Caribbean both times. If my memory serves me right (I had both brochures memorized) she was alternating between that itinerary and Eastern.

We stopped at Playa Del Carmen (we got off here to tour Cancun), Cozumel, Georgetown, Coco Cay, and Ocho Rios.

  3. Carnival Cruise Line has been ranked as the most improved U.S. brand in consumer perception for the past year in YouGov’s BrandIndex Buzz Rankings Report, which evaluates consumer perceptions of companies across multiple categories.

I've only cruised RCCL, but recently saw a Carnival video that highlighted the food served. It looked really good compared to the other lines I've viewed.

I haven't booked any cruises this year, but when I do I will consider Carnival.

  4. So, which is better? Carnival or Royal?

I liked things from each line. On Royal I like the touch screens they have by the elevators. It'll tell you what's going on and how to get there. I liked the drink package they offer.

On Carnival, I like the food better, I like their Miami Vices better. I like the price better, and the bigger cabins. I also like the pens/paper left in the cabin. I like the tear out part of the funtimes, this wasn't in the compass.

But essentially, they both offer a very similar product. People like to say Royal Caribbean is above such things as a hairy chest contest, but they had their world's sexiest man contest and I saw a bellyflop contest in the Compass. What is so refined and high class about a ship sponsored game of chubby bunny? The decoration was a little more "grown up" than Carnival, but that's a matter of taste.

I am not loyalty driven, I am price driven. For the right price, I will sail RCI again. For the right price I would even sail Norwegian! I didn't notice any glaring differences that enhanced or compromised the quality of my cruise. I think this "Royal Vs Carnival" mentality that's rampant on this board is very silly. It's like comparing Minute Maid to Tropicana. They're both juices, they both taste like orange juice, they're essentially the same product under different names, they are more alike than they are different. The clientele is very similar. I don't really pay attention to what people are wearing, but nothing sticks out in my mind as overly silly or sorely inappropriate.

I do have to say, both private islands are nice but given a choice, I would take Half Moon Cay!

This was very well written! You should consider writing part-time, even if it's just cruise reviews.

I am glad that you had such a great time, despite the daunting circumstances. If I had to share a room with anyone that called hogs in their sleep, I would consider grabbing my pillows and covers and moving to the Solarium.

I look forward to your next review (if it hasn't already been posted).

  5. Sunshine , I agree with you on the horse carriage rides.

Last year we were on the 3 day Enchantment , with a balcony that

    overlooked Nassau .

After we returned from our Nassau excursion , I sat outside on the balcony with a glass of wine,

enjoying the gorgeous weather and the view.

I had just called our dog's boarding facility and was assured that our fur baby

was doing just great. So, I was feeling relaxed and all was well.

I could see that the horses were now in a covered area , so at least they were sheltered from the hot sun. I did not see any water for them.

At some point during my balcony relaxation ,

I became aware of some commotion with one of the horses.

One of the horses had either slipped or collapsed and was down on the ground.

    That was horrifying enough.

But, one of the men began hitting the horse to get it up .

I burst into tears at the cruelty and ran into our cabin. My poor husband knew I had been on the phone about our dog, so at first, he was very alarmed.

I explained the horse cruelty and he went on the balcony to check.

He told me the horse had gotten up , but, the whole disgusting abuse ruined my day.

I could not get the image of that poor animal out of my mind.

Thank you for the 411 on this. I don't know if you've ever done a post about this in the excursion section, but it's good to spread around to those that don't know how these poor animals are treated.

I will admit that I have done a horse-drawn carriage in the past (in St. Louis), but will likely never do so again.

  6. I have a feeling this a precursor to the "smart" elevators they use in my office building.

Instead of pushing one button and choosing your floor when you enter the car, you pre-select your floor and an elevatoe is reserved for you. The speed of the elevator's arrival is determined by the number of people going to your deck. It works most of the time...except when it doesn't.

  7. I'm going to throw my two cents in as a person without a passport, who will be getting one before her next cruise.

    Better safe than sorry.

The last time I cruised was pre-9/11. We lived in a different world then. These days we must always be prepared for the worst case scenario.

  8. My wife took a spill in heels down a flight of stairs this year on Brilliance. Luckily she was not injured and as she put it "no one saw me fall".

I had a kid get on the elevator with his parents and they let him push nearly every button before realizing what he was doing. Oh the urge to smack the back of someone's head......

Which one? The kid or the parents?

  9. I will rebook (when the time is right) my cruise, but with another cruise line. One that offers something for everyone, including solo cruisers. It is fine to target a certain demographic, but don't ignore all of the others!

I might add that I will not totally exclude RCCL when considering my future cruises, but they've opened the door to my curiosity about what other lines, like Princess, are offering.

It is fine and dandy to be the most innovative line in the business, but when you repeatedly anger your repeat customers, there is something wrong with the way you are headed.

  10. I will say this: RCCL's arrogance is opening doors to other cruise lines to me. I haven't cruised in 17 years and only have 3 under my belt. My reluctance at canceling my current cruise (for reasons other than their arrogance) disappeared with the press release last week.
