  1. Hasn't anybody ever done this before using Clipper Vacations? They say they can get you from Seattle to Victoria via ferry......take you around Victoria including Buchart Gardens.......put you up for the night there, and then load you on a bus (and a ferry) and get you to the pier in Vancouver. It sounds almost too good to be true to be able to get from Seattle to your ship in Vancouver and see the gardens in between (which is exactly what we wanted to do)

So if you've done this, did everything flow smoothly and you ended up getting to your ship in Vancouver when promised ?

  2. Yes I shared this a few times already but RCCL was very accommodating in retrieving luggage for those who needed it. They have done all they can to accommodate us on this "extended" cruise.

Ah.....sorry......I read most of this thread, but obviously missed that part.

O.K.....I'm glad they're making provisions for getting stuff. (They'd get way too much crap if they didn't allow that)

  3. Here's another logistical thing that I can't remember seeing in this thread......Normally the last night you put 90% of your belongings outside your door........I trust this occurred here as well. I'm guessing nobody has 90% of their stuff unless they were the ones who were going to schlepp all their stuff off themselves.....

Soooooo.......did they allow people to get their stuff back? (including any meds in their suitcases.....which shouldn't be in there anyhow !)

  4. So that begs this question.......how many of you bring exactly the right number of days worth of medications? Depending on how far I am away from home fits in to the equation for me. For example if I'm going on a 7 day cruise out of Fl (where I am driving home) I might pack 8 or 9 days worth of meds. But now if I am doing a 11 night Baltic cruise, I may pack 13-14 nights worth of meds........how about you guys?

  5. So who was the mentor in this mission? Who was in charge of the newbies and making sure they had their ducks in a row? :D:rolleyes::)

A "senior cruiser" has to take the bull by the horn and keep these newbies in line.....LOL Somebody dropped the ball :D:p

Glad it worked out good for you guys.......they could have easily sent them away. Without proper documentation, they could've easily turned them away (as I'm sure you're well aware)

As for the people in uniform "working for the port".......if you're talking about all the reps in the terminal that are in a Princess uniform......I'm 99% sure their paycheck comes from Princess Cruise Lines

My guess-----> Those newbies won't go down that road again.

  6. We are on the Royal's Nov 4th sailing and will be getting off when you get on. We received an e-mail from Princess a couple of days ago listing the CD and CC folks along with info about the production shows, MUTS, and guest entertainers ("Tenors of Rock" and a comedian, Al Katz). I would imagine you will get the same email in a week or two.

    49er

PS I see you had sailed on the Norway a few times. We did once in '91 and way back in '65 when it was the France. It was a beautiful ship back then and all the French wine you could drink:-)

Oh......Interesting.....Al Katz will be on board......I've seen him a couple of times.....he's funny. Here's his webpage

  7.

I was booked to cruise with my 2 sisters on Vision Sept 11-15. I booked the cruise, I used a future cruise booking and paid the remainder of the deposit...total $300 ...$100 future credit and $200 on my Visa bank card.

My sister made final payment on her credit card.

I was unable to go on the cruise. No insurance, that is not my complaint. I had prepaid gratuities, so I am entitled to receive the pre-paid gratuities and taxes/fees back. I never heard anything from RCCL and figured it might just take time. Well I finally decided to call the big box store travel department to inquire, and it turns out my $150 refund was put back on my sister's credit card. I asked why??? When I was the lead name on the booking and my card should be on record as one used? OR at least contact ME to ask since the card it was placed back on was not the in the name of the person who cancelled? Yes, she is my sister but that credit when back on her credit card, where it would be cash back in my bank account, who's to say she has cash on hand to give me? What if two passengers aren't sisters? What if the reason didn't go was because we had a huge fight? (not the case, I actually missed to fly to LA and be taped for a TV show) Why is RCCL putting the responsibility of getting refund on the passengers?

Just got off phone and the big box TA was told by RCCL that they just automatically refund the card that had the higher amount paid. Really??? My $200 was more than the refunded $150. They can't reverse the credit to her and issue it to me because they'd need her permission to charge her credit card...lol...really but you didn't get my permission to give her my $?

In my opinion when RCCL sees there are 2 credit cards on the account and my name wasn't on one and not the other, and I am the cancelled passenger it should refund to my card. Ok so maybe they don't see the names on cards...they still see there are TWO cards on file so take a moment to ask which one should be credited.

So.........Inquiring minds want to see what this is about (obviously if you're willing to share).......Dancing With The Stars ??? :)

  8. I did a search and couldn't find anything similar to this.......so here goes.....

So not only price you paid, but what was the ship and cabin type (some of you may need to burn some brain cells to come up with this :D )

My first cruise was April 1987 on the (original) Holland America's Nieuw Amsterdam......I think we paid in the neighborhood of about $599 pp for pretty much an entry level inside cabin.

I'm thinking that in the price was the port taxes of about ? $39pp and Gov't taxes of probably like $15pp.......those are a little different now.

As a sidebar, has anybody gone through the Panama Canal in the last year or so? For a 10 night cruise, you're looking at about $600pp for both of those taxes !! (give or take depending on the cruise line) They're going to have that new canal paid off in no time......do the math......how much they making off that ship ? Mind boogling

I just realized I didn't put down the length of the cruise......that way you can put into prospective the amount of money versus the # of nights.....

That HAL one we took was a 7 nighter

  10. Original Poster is the correct answer.........you wonder what other acronyms are ??

Here ya go.......there's a test on this Friday at 3:00.....you'll need at least 90% to continue being able to post on CC :D

Good Luck......I'll give ya a hint....the test is not easy (and it's not open book)

  11. Looking for opinions of 241 Parking in Tampa. We are cruising in late November and have never left out of Tampa before. I have read a bunch of reviews on where not to park but would like some recent feedback of 241 Parking.

    thanks

That place is great.......their lot is right across the street......I've used them twice and they are prompt and courteous both times I used them.....they're like half as much as parking in the garage......I'd use them again in a heartbeat (disclaimer......I have nothing to do with the in any way...strictly as a customer)

  12. I recently scheduled a quick princess cruise in the Caribbean starting 9/29, mostly because the price was incredible. Today, went to look for our passports to complete the Princess information and could not find them. We had major damage to our house during our last cruise in May and things are still not quite in order. We are taking a longer cruise in December when we will definitely need passports. But it's late to even get expedited passports via mail so getting new passports before 9/28, when we were leaving, will require a trip to Miami plus expedited charges.

I called Princess this afternoon and they said we had to have passports even though the cruise begins and ends in Ft. Lauderdale and that even though we bought Princess insurance, we would only get a 25 percent refund.

From what I understand, cruises that begin and end in the US don't necessarily require a passport. And, yes I would much rather go with a passport. And I thought Princess insurance refunded 75 percent of your money. We do have platinum insurance.

I am really at the point where I would rather cancel the cruise and lose 25 percent rather than pay expedited passport fees and finance a trip to Miami. Of course, still hoping that passports will magically reappear

somebody is full of Do-Do......you can use a certified birth certificate and pix ID !! And you're right......75%.....not 25%........you'd loose 25%.....not get 25% back (and if you had Platinum, you'd get 90% back)

  13. Hi,

Just got back from a FOS...myself 43 DS9 DD6 and my mom 68. we had 2 balcony cabins beside each other. I have been on 8 cruises...Disney, carnival, msc, celebrity and 4 on RCCL.

    Any questions please ask.

embarkation: 0/10 worst ever. Power went out before security and for whatever reason no generator. Everyone was kicked out of the terminal by security into the 38 degree parking lot w no shade or washrooms. No update from RCCL, no water no food. not fun w 2 little kids.

ship 8/10. In great shape. We were last on oasis so preferred that ship but fos is very nice. great layout and great pool facilities which is important to our family as kids love it.

Cabin 8/10: balcony seemed huge compared to the newer ships and room was great size.beds were very comfortable also.

service 9/10: this is where RCCL blows other cruise lines away. especially msc. room stewart was great, main dining room service was great and staff always seemed friendly.

main dining room food: 7/10...desserts were amazing. salads and apps were a bit disappointing and entrees seemed to have dropped in quality. MTD was a bit disappointing as times were either 5:45 or 7:30 unless u wanted to wait 30-40 minutes each night.

windjammer was a solid 8/10. good selection and good quality.

chops:9/10...what a difference in quality compared to mdr. Caesar salad was amazing compared to mdr salads.

entertainment 4/10 : was pretty disappointed compared to oasis. headliner was a bon jovi cover band...huh? could see them free in a bar im sure. comedian was horrible and production show seemed pretty lame.

kids club 7/10: this is where Disney was way better. RC has time divided into a morning session 9-12, afternoon 2-5 and evening 7-10....wher we as Disney was more flexiable w drop offs allowed anytime. for example if we went rock climbing in the am till 10 it was no use putting them in club for an hour...where as Disney we could drop kids off any time and pick them up anytime if I wanted to work out in gym. but kids enjoyed the actual club even though they weren't in it much

one comment I would make is the automatic tipping policy. since it was myself and 2 kids we tipped over $240 automatically but it felt weird not handing the service staff a physical envelope.felt like I was stiffing them...especially since they still give u envelopes on the last day for more tipping.

MTD makes u automatically tip but next time I would rather personally hand them the $250.

all things considered it was a great cruise and glad I have tried other cruise lines...but in the future will be sticking w rccl. great product and great service.

38 degrees huh?? I'd love that.......but my guess it was slightly warmer than 38 degrees out......or did they have you wait in one of their walk-in coolers?

That would be a real cool idea :D my guess is RCCL had no control over the power loss.......so you can hardly blame them for that.

    Glad some thing went well

  14. We saw 5 security guards running into the Windjammer and - being nosey :o - I had a wander down to see what was going on. Didn't witness it but apparently two guys were pushing each other. What could be so important in the Windjammer that you get into a fight over it

Izumi is being relocated to deck 4, not taken out altogether.

Probably the same 2 guys that finished it off at Johnny Rockets !

  15. Along the same lines JH took about last week. Passanger medevocked 3 cabins as soon as the notification of a delay was made. Went to CS looking for composition.

can you spell this out better......I can't make out what you're saying

"took about last week"...."passanger medevocked 3 cabins" ???? "CS for composition" ??

who did what here you're saying ?

  16. What is he giving to each RCCL employee?

That'll teach me to not proof read, and then come back ages later.....

duh........as mentioned, he's giving every employee a tablet.....pretty amazing (and a very nice gesture)......to be honest with ya, it'll be interesting to see what kind of "book" they'll have to sign in order to receive one......it'll have probably 100 different things you can and can't do with it........OR ELSE

  17. They're going to have robotic bartenders on board (I assume just one bar) You can electronically enter your drink you want, and it will make it and serve it to you.....here's the video on it

Richard Fain also announced today that he will be giving EVERY employee of Royal Caribbean......about 40,000 of them !!! He says this way they can keep in touch with family members while being away from them. The Quantum is going to have super fast internet that will allow Skype......Facetime ....etc for both the crew and the passengers.

He also talked about that new entertainment space (Two70).....it will have six 100" robotic TV's that can move all around creating different effects. Apparently all the windows in that area are able to be like video screens where the walls can be like an aquarium with fish swimming around......or they can make the are into like a cityscape of New York City or something like that......truly amazing

This is just a part of what was revealed today.........OMG !!!!!!!

Here's more of that reveal today I meant to add

  18. I did Indy TA, and Viber was excellent, I talked everyday using it, the person on the other end said I was clear and no issues. Viber needs very lil data speeds to work. I also did this on phone data. I had a dinternational ata plan for phones.

Buy some phonetime also if you need to make calls to non-viber people on the other end.

So to clarify......you used the ship's internet to make the calls ? or your phone using cell service? If you used the ship's internet, is it the "new stuff" or the "old" internet? Not sure which ships have the "new stuff" other than the Allure....Oasis and I think the Freedom. I'm curious to know if the "old" internet supports VOIP (Last I knew it didn't)
