Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Just an update. I sailed 8/20 and really loved the cruise. Glacier Bay made me cry it was so beautiful. Dining was hit or miss but each day we found food we enjoyed. Especially dessert, Italian Night, lobster (was cooked perfectly). Many passengers actually did 2 excursions per port, so I feel time was enough. We made all ports and even early. I wish everyone had our experience.
  2. Thank you for the detailed update. A friend and I are sailing 8/20. You are certainly correct about them selling that original itinerary allllll season despite knowing about it. We purchased 59 days out, and it was for the original itinerary. They only told us 3 weeks out. They were still selling the original, too, even after that. I checked. They only updated it permanently when the landslide happened and everyone else also started having to go to Icy. Although Crown is still going to Skagway, I think they were only willing to tell potential customers the truth (that Ketchikan was cancelled for Icy) when their competitors were having to dock there, too. We are still excited. I feel bad for people on this week's sailing as there are flood warnings since it is raining so hard. I am hoping weather is better for us. I did wonder about the awful long time on board since the first and second day is all sailing and then she has been calling late in Juneau, at 4 pm. Then after Icy Straight, another day and most of a whole day to get to Victoria. Any suggestions? I am thinking games and puzzles.

  4. I find it so aggravating when people say, "I'm not sure what the issue is just ___." As if there are no possibilities of alternate situations that would warrant someone asking. In my situation, I booked a cruise for my friend and I. She is traveling with an enhanced license that states her first name then, since she has 2 middle names, the first middle name and the first letter (only) of her second name. The cruise booking agent thought it best then just to use her first and last name because it was so rare. That said, for the folks who always quip back, "Just get a passport," it isn't always an option. I am not her keeper and can't make her get one. So, there are many situations that don't fit "Just book under the name on your ID or passport."
  5. The simple fact is that they have known the entire season and still sell the original itinerary to this day. So people can quibble over minutiae about whatever parts she needs or whose fault it was. But the fact remains that people like myself, sailing Aug 20., are only hearing from Princess and our T. Agents 30 days prior. I found out yesterday. And nobody can say for sure until Princess makes an official decision, so.I don't fault my agent. So unless people are constantly in these forums or, like myself, decide to go on YouTube excited to learn about this cruise-- they are clueless until a month prior. Too late to cancel, although I myself wouldn't anyways. I even looked at reviews of my ship and at the time of purchase found nothing about this stuff. And most people won't delve so far as to read cruise hive or cruise radio daily. So YES there is a management problem in the form of delayed facts/communications. HOWEVER I am still SUPER excited and thankful to be cruising on her and have spent the last few weeks on pins and needles.
  6. Maybe the other 90% not wearing masks realize that doing so and getting 4 shots may not prevent them from Covid and therefore think it's time to resume life. You can't go out into the world and expect everybody else to be the same as you. But I'm just one of those whiny cruisers (like you) so when I go I am going to be thankful that people are actually paying hundreds of hard earned dollars to get tested. Glass half full.
  7. I watch a lot of YouTube cruise vlogs. It seems she is making all her ports now. My fav YouTuber just went on Holland Lines and said Crown was in all ports and doing much better from what her viewers who have sailed say. I sail Crown 2 weeks after you.
  8. I have never understood the 6 month rule. Why have an expiry date if it isn't the date it expires?
