  1. Question to you seasoned HAL cruisers who are lucky enough to get these upsells:

I got several upsells from HAL for our 14 day Asia cruise. Started at $1399 pp I believe and quickly scratched that out. Another one came and ignored that too. And now on my 3rd one at $649 pp from Vista suite to Neptune suite. My hubby thought it would be awesome to have a NS again ( We had one of those aft SB suite on Zuiderdam last year - cabin 5191 and he can't get over it!). I thought it's too much, considering it will cost us an extra $1300 for Neptune suite. Or am I just totally crazy to think so? Your thoughts will be greatly appreciated:)

  2. Well we (hubby and daughter) just got back from our 7 day cruise to Alaska today and enjoyed every single (well almost) bit of it!!! I have to admit that I got lucky to get an upsell to Neptune suite as I originally booked an SS suite, and we had one of the S aft wrap suite. It was Awesome!!! Thanks to everyone for telling me to grab the offer. My hubby couldn't believe how huge the balcony was. All the perks that you get from being on a suite is just great in our opinion. Both the ladies in the lounge were very helpful and will do everything to make your vacation wonderful each and every day. We had the high tea and hot and cold apps almost everyday ( we had to cancel the last 2 since we are getting too full to eat the real dinner each night). Free laundry service is great also, no need to bring home a bunch of dirty laundry which just depresses me after ending my vacation.

As far as seeing riff raff in the NS lounge we didn't really stay there very long as we both love to sit on our balcony instead of lounging with other suite passengers.

That being said, even though the Neptune suite is something that we would love to have every single time, paying full price for this one is just too much for us. We just booked our Asia cruise next year and it will cost us an arm and leg to book NS suite at this point. Hoping for another upsell, but I highly doubt it will happen. I should start buying lottery tickets!

  3. Take 5191! Best balcony on the ship, but it is a walk to the Neptune and the cabin is a bit smaller than the SAs. Second choice for me would be one of the SAs near the Neptune. SOme people will tell you the reverse of this, but either is a great deal IMO.

We took SB 5191, and it will be good for us. Might as well walk off all that extra calories:D

  4. Have a great cruise and enjoy the suite life. Just a warning, it can be addictive.

I'm sure we'll be hooked. We thought we'd try it on a shorter cruise and not pay sooo much than on our future Asia cruise and see if it's worth paying double than veranda stateroom ( and I'm sure it will be).

Sooo excited!!! I think we'll be able to spend our $50 pp/day signature beverage credit easier now with that balcony ;)

  5. We got a very last minute upsell offer today. From a VE to a SA for $159 pp on the June 21 sailing on the Zuiderdam. We had been in a SB before and loved it, so we jumped on the offer.

I 2nd Lolane on this one. That is an awesome upsell!!! I'm hoping to get a better one than my $349pp offer, and I'm already on the SS! Heck I'm not even wanting to pay anything for upgrade right now:(

Anyway, enjoy your cruise I'm sure it will be a great one!:):)

  6. Have you made a counteroffer to HAL yet? Two upsells suggests they are having a hard time getting customers to bite...as as I posted previously, I was able to propose an upsell amount that they accepted.

I have made them a counteroffer and each time I was told that's as low as they can go at this point. It was $349pp from SS to SA-SB. I think spending $700 extra is not worth it IMO.

  7. We got another upsell 5 days after the first one. Got very excited to get another one but when I checked the offer it was exactly the same price we were given the first time. Answer is still NO.... Bummer, maybe I'll get a 3rd one and it will be a better one. "3rd time is a charm"

10 days until our 7 day cruise to Alaska!!!

  8. Thanks for everyone's input on this. REALLY appreciate it. I've also read that SB cabins are smaller than SA? How much smaller are they? I would love to be in in one of those aft suites, but concern about the cabin size.

  9. I don't know of any code and you probably won't be able to combine it with any other offers. But then again if you originally book a cabin/suite that includes a free night hotel then you should still be able to get that after upgrading to a "higher" category suite.

  10. It is one of the current promotions that HAL is having. If you book one of their suites you can get a free night and this was on their website and also got those brochure in the mail. This is what's written on the brochure:

" Enjoy a free overnight stay at a downtown hotel in Seattle, Vancouver, Fairbanks or Anchorage with the purchase of a spacious suite. In Seattle, stay at the luxurious Fairmont Olympic Hotel, the Pacific Northwest's only AAA Five Diamond hotel"

*Offer applies to select cruises and Land+Sea Journeys on the ms Amsterdam, ms Statendam, ms Zaandam, ms Volendam, ms Oosterdam, ms Westerdam, and ms Zuiderdam.

  11. lolane, We are on the Zuiderdam 7 day RT from Vancouver on June 28. Are u on that one too? There's still several SS and SA available on the HAL website and the cabin that was offered to me was not even one of them! I'll cross me finger and hopefully I'll get another email. As it is we got a pretty good deal with our current fare I think (maybe not, but I'd like to think so) since we got the $50 signature beverage package for 2 person/day included :)

  12. Thanks for the reply Dave! This is for a cruise leaving June 28. I guess I should have checked the price listed on their website first to compare. Oh well, here's hoping that the upsell fairy will forgive me and come back with a nicer offer :)

  13. Hi everyone! New to this forum...but have been reading for a while and could spend hours reading infos :) Anyway I just got an upsell offer in my email today and I called back the number since I can't open the attachment that tells me the price, and I was quoted $349pp from SS to SA or SB. This is for a 7 day RT Vancouver Alaska cruise. I thought that was a bit high so I pass and tried to give a counter offer but was told no and that's the lowest that they will take right now. Anyone here also thinks that is a little high or did I just missed a great opportunity?
