Thank you, that is very interesting. If we were cruising without baggage restrictions then we would be happy to take the Tux but we are doing the Greek Islands from Venice and so we have to adhere to quite onerous (for me!) packing limits, so if it is not essential I think it will be left at home for this trip.

It does seem a shame that the elegance factor has been so much diluted though.

I was just reading about the dress code for our upcoming trip and from what I have read Formal night is no more. So is a Tuxedo not required now? It would lighten our luggage load but we do enjoy the dressing for dinner aspect. Do some cruisers still do the full-on formal attire or has it completely gone?

Which line has the most comprehensive itinerary of both places or is it best to do two with a land break between them?

Which are the must see places that the average tourist may not know about?

Any other useful information you think is relevant.

I know these are quite subjective questions but any help/pointers/starting points anyone can give will be really welcome.

I wonder why the cancellation policies are so different between the US and the UK? We lose the deposit if we cancel even the day after booking. That is why we book via a US TA.

I am booked for 12/6/18 and 12/9 in a sky suite that sleeps 4 and there are only two of us. Celebrity didn’t try to push me into another cabin without the sofa sleeper. You should look at the deck plans, select an open cabin that has a sofa sleeper and request that cabin from your TA. ( There are symbols on the deck plans to indicate which rooms have sofa sleepers)

 

I do agree with VT, that booking three now and canceling for your son, before final payment may be the best option. Good luck .

I am in the UK but always book cruises via a US TA which is fortunate as we do not have the option to cancel here without losing the deposit in full.:mad:

I have visited Dubrovnik many times and the city itself is very accessible. A lot of the pavements are a marble type stone which can become quite slippy when wet. The walls are reached by sets of stone steps which I think you may find difficult, they also get quite crowded in high season.

Edit to add, we found the taxi drivers in Dubrovnik great and where the ships dock is a short walk to the bus station and taxi rank. Also, from the harbour, you can get a ferry across to Cavtat which is a lovely place.

If there is a family if 3, they cannot book? That does not make any sense to me.

 

I appreciate them not packing the ship to the maximum, but I am sure they must have rooms that accomodate more than 2 people..maybe a suite? Have you tried a dummy booking on your own?

Sorry, maybe I have worded it badly.

Currently, we are booking as a couple so our TA has been given options for cabins sleeping 2. I went back to her and asked if she could give us an option of a cabin which would sleep 3 if we wanted ( at a later date) to add our son onto the booking.

My TA said that Celebrity would only allocate cabins sleeping the number of people on the booking as Edge was so popular. I can understand that and obviously, will have to accept it if it is correct.

I was just enquiring if anyone on the boards had booked a cabin/been allocated a cabin which slept more people than they had on their booking.

Thank you, we have done it previously without a problem ( I assume taking account of overall ship capacity at the time of the addition) but our TA says that due to the popularity of the Edge Celebrity are only opening up cabins which sleep two to couples/two people and not cabins which have sofa beds/extra bunks in them.

I suppose it may be possible to change/upgrade at a later date, but I just wondered if anyone had booked a cabin on the Edge sleeping more than are currently booked into it. Our booking is for August 2019 so not inaugural or even in the first few months of sailing.

We can’t name it here but if you google cruise price alerts (and the name seems a bit fishy), you will likely get the one I use.

Sorry, but it still takes me to the Uk site. However, I have now be given access to my cruise planner - for July 2019! And it is on the .com site! But try any other link and it is back to .co.uk! Really annoying.

 

The good news is that through my cruise planner I now have access to details of all the dining venues and to sample menus!

 

Not sure how this board works but I have, hopefully, attached one sample menu this post.

We are about to book a cruise on Edge for August 2019.

We may want to add another passenger if our son can get away, but our TA is saying that Celebrity will not allow to passengers to book a room sleeping more than initially book due to the popularity of Edge.

Has anyone any experience of this?

We are hoping the new IV's will be quieter than the standard outside platform verandas. Basically the IV is a cabin with a giant window, so without the outside area, inconsiderate pax yapping loudly at 2 AM outside will be a non issue.

Will people not still sit out on the 'balcony' though just as they would on a normal one? There is an outside area isn't there?

I don't recall that they really locked the doors but you are in a large showroom...wouldn't be any different than locking the doors in your stateroom or at home for that matter. :)

I know, but the stateroom and my doors at home are under my control....:o

I am sure I will be fine, it is not logical at all when I understand and accept that I get to the ship by plane!!

Silly question, but are the doors really locked? Sounds like a fun game but I am claustrophobic and the thoughts of being locked in worries me a little!!

We are staying overnight in Miami so could get to the port as early as necessary but will they let us board? I thought the rule was that boarding was 12 noon or so, is that not correct? If you can go early do you have to have booked that boarding time or can you just show up?

Ah I see, that makes sense as some of the dining times which are open are post 9.30pm which for us is a little too late to be starting eating. I will wait until we are onboard and reserve the first day then....hopefully! Thanks for the help everyone.

Thank you, I will do that, although as we are in the UK I will have to watch the time difference! Strangely, I have managed to book Cucina and Moderno, I am hoping that doesn't mean the other two are booked up for our sailing.

We are 34 days out and I am trying to book dining for my party.

We all have the free dining package but the dining options don't allow us to book Cagneys or Le Bistro unless we do it via the purchasing of the dining package which we already have.

There are only 7 stand alone dining options showing as bookable.

Can anyone help?
