Thanks for the review. We are boarding Jan 18 and will be on for 42 days.
Was it a one time thing that there was no lunch in the MDR on embark day or is that the new normal?
How many Gala nights did you have and when were they?
One last question - if you took any of the Techspert classes were they teaching Windows 10 or Windows 8?
Thanks again for taking time to let us know - we are looking forward to an outstanding 42 days on a DAM ship:D
No Mariners embarkation lunch on the Oosterdam. Don't know about the other ships.
We had two Gala Nights one the second evening after Half Moon Cays and the other was the second last evening of the cruise a sea day.
Windows 10 was what was being taught.

Thanks for posting. I'm glad to hear the food is good.
No Mariner's Embarkation lunch, but did they have the welcome reception?
What's the deal with security screening on Half Moon Cay? Is this after you get off the tender but before you go up the path? Metal detector? Bag check?
The security check is before you are heading back to the tender returning to the ship. Both metal detector and bag check.
They had a suite welcome party to get to know your neighbors with the concierge as host.

Yes it was! We did not go there so I can't give you the hours but we were told it was open.

First off let me say my DH and I had and incredible cruise, as we usually do!
I'm just going to detail some of the differences that we noticed on this cruise compared to others....
A couple of cruises ago we had the pleasure of dining with the Hotel Director and he had mentioned how things were changing by taking away things "a little bit at a time". Here goes...
No Mariners Embarkation Lunch, No Officers party, No VIP party.
You are sent a note as to whether or not you would like a corsage or boutonniere for Gala night.
No more ashtrays on Promenade Deck along with NO Smoking signs everywhere.
There are no more "No Running" signs with either on the Promenade Deck.
Floral decorations have all but diminished throughout the ship replaced with silk ones. In our cabin we had a carnation and some greens.
There are now more non-smoking nights in the casino.
We ourselves did not enjoy the Dive In.
Pinnacle Grill was probably one of the best Pinnacle dinners that we have ever enjoyed.
Service was excellent everywhere all the time and I can honestly say all of our meals in the MDR were wonderful. I believe they have changed the selections on the menu a bit. Portions are definitely smaller.
Northern lights will be going.
There is now a security screener to go through at Hal Moon Cays.
All the staff were incredible!
I hope this is helpful to some and news to others. This is just my and my DH's opinions. I'm sure others may or may not agree ...but each to their own.
Any questions I'd be happy to answer!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Canadians near and far!!! A day to be grateful!

Triple sniff!!! As much as people complained about the wading pools, or whatever you want to call them at the sea view area, she holds some of the dearest memoires made!! I will miss her!!:(

Bon Voyage Trish!!!

Who is on the Oosterdam Oct 16th?

We have sailed in Neptune Suites twice and always had a Pinnacle dinner included. We will sail again in July and a Pinnacle dinner is included with the suite.
We always sail in a NS or an a PS and have never had a Pinnacle Dinner included.
-
Since we are booked in a Neptune suite, I am assuming that we will receive at least 1 complimentary dinner at the Pinnacle.
Thanks.
Don't assume! There are no complimentary dinners at the Pinnacle included with your Neptune Suite.

I'll be the person walking with headphones as it says nothing about not wearing them. It does say no jogging so why do you think it ok to do so?
Thank YOU!!!

Ryndam, Maasdam, Veendam, Statendam 4 laps = 1 mile or 1.7 kms

Sounds like we are in the same boat, so to speak. No children here and I'm an only child. My Mother is 87 and it's just getting tougher all the time...

I'm so very sorry to hear your news about your Father..
We certainly do become our parents parent.
I will be happy to see 2015 gone. Not trying to rush life, just the year.
-
Judy, you are in our thoughts and prayers today. God Bless.

If you have a cell phone, download the AC app and check in there!

Not always do you arrive to your suite and there is a bottle of Champagne, actually it's Sparkling Wine. Our cruise in December of last year and another one we were served the "Champagne" by the glass in the Neptune Lounge.

Hi Jacqui!
Oosterdam, 16 Oct 2015 10 day Southern Caribbean Seafarer or as I like to call it celebrating my birthday albeit belated by 3 days gift from hubby!!!:)

Was that an upsell from a full fare SS cabin? Anyhow, glad you had a great enjoyment from the SA cabin.
I will be spending 15 days very shortly in the SA for 15 days, and so looking forward to it;)
It was an upsell from a full fare SA! We did a Pinnacle Suite upsell for an 18 day Hawaii cruise on the Veendam for $2700 pp
-
Returned from our 7 day Western Caribbean Cruise in Feb, we had a Neptune Suite and were offered an upsell $1269 pp. We didn't even give it a second thought!

I just pulled up our tags to take a look and yes the priority in on the bottom is highlighted in yellow and on the top corner it DOES state the Alcohol Policy. This must be new.

You're more than welcome! BTW, Welcome and I'm sure that you will more than enjoy your first cruise with HAL:)
