  1. This may go without saying, but it never hurts to repeat. Put your phone into airplane mode, then enter the settings and turn the wifi capability back on. Connect to Carnival wifi. Open the HUB app. Enter the information requested on the app for the internet access. You are good to go.

It is good to remind everyone... cell phone service must be off when you leave your home port, or you could be charged a boatload. The exception is if you are in a USA port like St. Thomas or San Juan, but you still need to make sure you don't accidentally connect to the ship's cell tower. You can confiscate the kid's SIM cards before the cruise if they will get to keep their phone.

  2. I had to wait 8 months once, it was hell

Ha! I have been waiting for six plus years. We got this crazy idea that it would be a better idea to have a house than go on a cruise. But after many years of being house poor, we're going back to the sea this year. I have missed it.

  3. Everything seems like an extreme example five to ten years before it becomes reality.

    The buffet serves dinner.

I think those who are presuming that such examples are extreme and can never happen are simply setting themselves up for superlative disappointment when they actually do become reality.

It could happen, but if so, I think it would be an option. For example: you could book a cabin for a 7 day cruise for $799 per person including meals in the MDR and other "free" venues. You may have the option of a fare of $699 per person exclusive of free meals meaning buffet, pizza, and deli are your only free choices. You could still dine in a formerly free venue for $25 pp per visit.

Would that interest me? Nope. But it would attract buffet lovers and the budget conscious cruiser.

  4. I absolutely agree. Charge $770 and include dining room. Or charge $700 and only include buffet but charge $10 each time you use dining room. Those that don’t like the dining room can save with the 2nd option. Doesn’t cost any more for those that use the dining room every night. Opens cruising up to more people. This is kind of an extreme example.

A bit too extreme, I think. The dining room service included is part of the essence of cruising. A third rail issue if ever there was one.

  5. We are headed to Dominica on Fascination in August. I have been twice before.

Last time I did a hike to the Boiling Lake with two friends and a private guide. We barely had enough time to do it.

I love this island. It is the most beautiful in the Caribbean.

We have been watching the Dominica sites since the hurricane. People got hurt badly and the tourism is much needed. I expect the port will not be skipped.

  6. I may be of a minority opinion here, but I think offering the lowest possible base rate and increasing al la carte options are a way to get more potential passengers.

Some people may be willing to pay a lower fare and can actually remain frugal on a cruise. Many people who are normally frugal may let loose on a vacation and splurge, but not everyone will.

  7. You have been sailing on really big NCL ships, so the Pride is going to feel different. I love the smaller ships with fewer venues, but for lots of cruisers bigger means more variety of stuff to do onboard. If you like the big ships you may have a little culture shock with a smaller one.

  8. ... they are checking in separately? Or should she tell them at check in he won’t be able to come?

Tell them he is not coming so they are lot looking for him until the last minute. Just no need to say anything about it before check in.
