  1. Thanks for all the replies, everyone! I was hoping there was some special exception out there but I guess not. It's true the Cheers for two could be used by someone who does not drink alcohol but I don't see how anyone could drink enough diet coke to justify a 50 dollar a day tab.

FWIW this particular cruise has no sea days so the opportunity to have a beverage on board is limited somewhat. Plus it is out of San Juan which practically has a liquor store on the gangway ;p ;p.

  2. We booked directly on Carnival's website, and are having a couple of issues. Thought I'd check here if anyone else has seen these, before I call them for help. I always like to solve a problem myself if I can.

    1) My info was entered when I booked the cabin, but the other guest is listed as "TBA". I get a reminder when I log in to update the name. When I try to update, I get error "An unexpected response condition code has been received"

    2) Although I have the correct VFIP number attached to my new booking, Carnival somehow has created a new VFIP account (with zero cruise history) and attached it to my login. So it appears on the website I am no longer about to be Platinum. I would really like to fix this.

Anyone have anything like this happen to you?

  3. Been to Dominica on a cruise twice before. Did a ship tour the first time. Second time we got a private tour and hiked from Titou Gorge to the Boiling Lake.

This time I'm about 13 years older than last time and not wanting to do a ton of walking. Would like to go to some lesser-traveled scenic spots that are not on a typical ship's tour. Beach / boating trips are probably not what we're looking for on this island. Just some time out in some beautiful surroundings.

    Any ideas?

  4. Been away from the boards for a while... so going to ask a question to show my ignorance.

DW and I have finally booked another cruise (Aug '18) and I would like to get the alcohol package, but she doesn't drink. So the rule that all in the same cabin must buy the same package is a bummer. I understand why they would have the rule, but it just doesn't work for us.

She would like to get the soda package (which of course is not necessary with the Alcohol package).

Is there any way to get 1 Alcohol + 1 Drink package for a couple sharing the same cabin? Or am I going to need to smuggle?

  5. Your ticket contract (available on line) will clear up the booze situation for you - and what could happen.

Feel free to smuggle. The contract is just designed to prevent Carnival from being sued. As others have said, all that happens if you are caught is you lose the booze. Well worth the risk, IMHO.

BTW - I smuggle with RumRunners every cruise, and have never been caught (yet) :D

  6.

You pay the same price either way.

    So....

You can either pay $1.15 for the item or you can pay $1 plus $0.15. Either way you pay the same.

Is it really worth all the hub-bub in the end?

I agree. The OP misses the point that back in Europe, where tips are not customary, the "gratuity" is built into the base price of the item. It is going to be paid either way.

Of course, the drinks on a ship are way overpriced, especially considering the duty-free nature of the ingredients, but that is a separate issue.

  7. will I have my luggage before dinner?

Not about rum runners, but in general, you need not be concerned about getting your luggage before dinner.

Delivery delays happen and not always due to alcohol. Sometimes bags are delivered to the wrong room, or wrong deck.

Because of this, there is no dress code the first night at dinner. You can go in shorts or t-shirt or whatever you have on when you board the ship - it won't raise an eyebrow anywhere.

  8. You know that Carnival DOES offer complimentary burials at sea as part of your cruise?

No, someone who dies on the same cruise is not eligible because of various legalities not to mention the fact that they must be cremated beforehand and the ship has no crematory. But just give it time. Gauging by the rate at which the cruise industry is going, a floating crematory is not far off.

But I digress. To bury a loved one at sea, simply creamate them, and then request permission to have the ceremony.

Carnival's staff will rope off the lowest aft deck and you will have all the time you need to say goodbye before you throw the container of ashes into the deep blue.

  9. took the behind the scenes tour on the Dream. There is a morgue on the Dream. There is room for 3 bodies.

I did that tour on Miracle. They don't show you the morgue but they are willing to discuss it. There is also a brig, where you may end up if you have too much fun and don't die. Basically it is a crew cabin with a door that does not open from the inside.

I once read an article by a person who was employed as a piano player on a cruise ship, and his cabin was next to the morgue. Good place if you ask me... neighbors are usually quiet.
