What is "RSVP"?
Formalwear for me would be okay, but my husband doesn't own a sport jacket. We'd have to bring his suit, dress shirt and dress shoes. And hang it up/pack it carefully. I think we'll probably end up at the Lido and hope it's not too crowded.
Autocorrect made my RS (room service) into RSVP. Go figure!

One set of pics I found has a very "lived-in" look in the cabin but the balcony is perfect :D Can you use balcony-only pics?
Any and all are welcome!

Lido or room service. RSVP offers the full dining room menu.

Especially for Bergen and Alesund it would help if I knew a little about what you like to do. Bergen is a big city, and offers many varied options. Alesund is also a fairly decent size city, with more than a couple of options.
Geiranger and Eidfjord are smaller, and have their own charms.
First, for Geiranger, get up and get outside for the ride up the fjord. Even I, who hates getting up at 9:00 because it's too early, was outside by 7:00 the last time I was there. The ride up, then the ride back down the same day can be two entirely different experiences. Don't miss either one.
This is a tender port, with a little shopping center at the dock, and little else around. Find a tour---either HAL, or private (if possible), and get out of town. There's a nice ride up the mountain that offers some great views.
Remember a few years ago there was an ad on TV for some credit card or other? It involved a son who took his father back to the old country to visit. There was a scene with them standing on a rock, looking way, way down to the head of a fjord. That rock, that view, can be scene from up the mountain tour.
I'm not as familiar with Eidfjord, as I have only been there once. Again, the ride up/down the fjord is gorgeous, and worth the view.
There doesn't seem to be much around the dock---just a small settlement---so I would find a tour to get out in the countryside. I did, and enjoyed it. I was there in early May, and there were still several feet of snow along the roadside, topped off with a few inches of power that had fallen that morning. Take your sunglasses! I had snowblindness on that tour.
Let me know what you might be interested in, and I'll see what hints I can narrow down for Bergen and Alesund.
We go in September, the last sailing up, on Rotterdam. Join us! ;)
Anyway, thank you! We are explorers - like wandering around and blending in. We hate organized tours, but know to get up to Mt Dalsnibba in Geiranger is necessary.
We are on this trip for scenery, don't care about museums unless they're phenomenal. Bergen looks easy, just wander, but Alesund and Eidfjord is throwing me for a loop.

Ruth is great. In fact, Ruth - HELP! (Sorry for the thread hijack)
Any hints/tips on things to do on our up img Norway cruise (I know you love Norway ...).
Here is our itinerary:
Bergen, Norway (08:00 AM - 04:00 PM)
Geiranger, Norway (08:00 AM - 05:00 PM)
Alesund, Norway (07:00 AM - 04:00 PM)
Eidfjord, Norway (10:00 AM - 06:00 PM)

Cabin classes are going on a massive reclassification soon, a cabin booked next week isn't the same as a cruise in Dec 2014. Listing categories isn't a viable option for us unfortunately.
Listing OV, I, L, V might work, good idea Ray.

I don't know how to find your cabin - but I do know how to call shipboard services - they will find you :D
Ha yeah you got my name in those emails so I'm fair game now haha.
-
Thanks for letting us know - I won't be on board - but I know how to find you - there might be a little something in your cabin ;) You deserve more - but I'm not rich
I'm a bit scared how you know where to find our cabin LOL! To be fair, it's one of the four corner aft ones that sorta wraps around. :)

After some MAJOR searching I have been able to find some pics of cabins that I can remember # and ship for :) Will send them along -- happy to contribute to this!
Thank you. :)
I'll make a new thread soon announcing the site is live and ask for submissions. :) Amd yes if we can keep this thread about this site, it will help keep it from being delete. :)

All I'm gonna say i someone owes me a few Wang Wangs for this site. :) We'll be on Rotterdam Sept 6 ... just sayin'.

Thank you for the information. The Holland America itinerary sounds like what we want but I was not going to book with a line that allowed smoking in the cabins. Has anyone been on a verandah next to someone who is smoking??? Can you smell the smoke??? That is still a concern for me.
Yes, and not always as it depends on the wind direction. We've had times where the verandah has been unusable due to smokers but only once out of quite a many cruises on HAL. It's the luck of the draw, though as always we wish HAL would eliminate the option entirely.

OK, all dining room layouts are uploaded. You'll find them by each when you go to the respective class page. Ship info is at the top, cabin photos follow below. Easy-to-read IMO. If you notice any broken links or links that take you somewhere else, let me know please.
I was editing this at the same time I was working on a (paying hahaha) client's site so I might've sent a link to them on accident.

Bug report: The link for the Eurodam menu item goes to /vista-class/ :)
None of the pictures from the old site can be used?
Also: Yes, I wonder if cruisetrail will grant permission to use some of his photos from the "Grand Tour" thread.
Thanks for catching my mistake on the Eurodam link, it now properly links to the Signature Class page. My apologies!
I am soon to place every ship's dining room layout. We will put these on the class pages alongside the name of each ship. It'll make it easy to find ship info on each page and then below the ships will be the, as it is now, links to the cabin photo pages.
We would love to have as many images as possible, so would most welcome cruise trail's permission to use his if he has no objections. We are not using any information from the previous site as we are building this from scratch in a completely different manner. It'll take time to rebuild the picture library but IMO the site will be better for it. :) (Granted I'm partial as I'm building it hahaha)

I swear by Briggs & Riley and the TravelPro pro series.

There was a thread just the other day that said the policy is to try to give you an assigned Pinnacle time similar to your MDR time. If you are Open Seating, they seem to be assigning very late, or very early times.
Wasn't that thread the one that said they received the 9:30 pm slot?

Thanks, wish I new this before I started cutting and pasting in the original version :D
So sorry! I just sent the file to Rich, fwiw.

I have a DR layout if Rotterdam directly from the ship via ship services I can send, I received it 3 weeks ago. It is a PDF that's quite clear and looks different than the ones used currently.

OK, I revamped the navigation a bit. Now the submenus list the ships that fall under the categories (listed by order of introduction). If you click on a ship, it takes you to the main ship class page (since we aren't using individual ship pages for ease in posting/navigation). This should suit everyone's needs - you can view the ship quickly if you don't know the class (like most won't) but saves us a ton of time on the backend.
I have also posted a header image to give the site a little color. I took the photo on our September/October Canada/NE cruise on the Eurodam. Picture is taken from atop Cadillac Mountain outside Bar Harbor, Maine.
Let me know any feedback. The home page will be tweaked still, and adding contact info is definitely going on it WayneFougere.
-
Love the ease of navigation. I can go straight to the cabin number I am interested in looking at, without scrolling for what seems like forever.
Thanks for that! :)
Plus by not putting images on the main pages the page load time is drastically reduced. It's a win-win-win. Tonight I'll be cleaning up some areas and probably adding some type of banner.

Wait the satellite blocks commercials? I'm going to have to start cruising to watch the Super Bowl!
-
I ended up having to travel to NYC for the night for a last minute meeting so can't do any nav work tonight. Sorry guys but my real job pays more LOL. :)

Nope; one of the junior Deck officers is responsible for obtaining the port, weather, long and lat and nautical mileage info from the Bridge log and transfer that to what will eventually become the cruise log which is distributed by HK
Our Junior officer must've not graduated from the "this is a sunny day, this is a rainy day, this is a day in the 40s, this is a day in the 70s" class at that time then. :)

There are too many ships to have as individual menu items and since cabins by category are nearly identical it saves a ton of sorting time to go with the current approach to generalize by class.
We could on the homepage list the classes and respective ships, as a solution for those on mobile devices. This evening I'll be making the drop downs non-clickable so they are only informative.
Unfortunately there can't be a perfect nab solution with a fleet as large and varied as HAL.
I'm thankful I'm not doing construction on a Carnival cabin picture site. I'd explode!

Looking good Rich
Perhaps consider putting S class behind PRDM and in front of R class if you're going by age - Same with reversing Vista and Signature - or I could be super anal ;)
That's how I entered it but didn't set the ordering preferences so it defaulted to alphabetical. I'll get that rearranged, no worries.
New HAL cabin picture/review site: what do you want it to be?

I'll make a new thread soon - since this is more about the site creation it makes sense to have one dedicated to its existence.
