I would have killed to have the luxury of either of these hay bales. On the farm where I grew up, we eschewed such conveniences and did it the old-fashioned way, with regular hay bales. About 12-14,000 per year, 50-60# each. Every freakin' year! And I had to handle each one at least twice. At least once while going into the haymow. And once more, taking it out to feed it to the cows. I guess it was a good core workout, before that kind of thing got popular?

Well we got home from Finland Thursday night after a really great trip. Flights worked well and no major delays. Schipol was a cakewalk; we went from gate to gate in 20 minutes, even though we had to go through passport control in between. Very smooth.

Unfortunately there were some "cat"astrophes awaiting us at home. One of the fish bit it and that made a bit of a mess in the aquarium. Nothing more fun than digging a rotten dead fish carcass out of the aquarium after a few days' worth of decomposition... While being utterly exhausted after traveling for 18+ hours!

But the worst part is that the cat almost didn't survive our absence. She had a surgical procedure while we were away and that had gone well, and she came back home seemingly doing very well. But inexplicably, she stopped eating a few days before we got home and the pet sitter didn't find her until Wednesday, after probably 3 days with no intake at all.

Sounded like she was on her last legs at that point and we are very lucky that our emergency contact is a vet tech. So she pulled out all the stops, on Thanksgiving Eve no less, and nursed the ill kitty back to health over the next 36 hours. Miraculous that this 21-year-old cat seems to be out of the woods now but I don't think she would have made it without our friend's help. We owe her big time.

Today we put up a few Christmas lights outside, and bought a really nice tree to decorate tomorrow! Funny, after being up in the far north of Finland, it seems really light here! Sunset at 4:30? Wow - that's a lot of daylight! 😄

Just got back from 2 weeks in the Galápagos and have discovered the joys of Ecuadorean chocolate and coffee.  So glad I was able to bring some home.

My thoughts are with all those who mourn the Queen.

Has anyone heard from Cruising Pashmina who lives in Sanibel?

I just heard from her daughter who said her house is uninhabitable and she is staying with a friend but she's OK.  I've tried to contact her directly but of course no luck.  Will keep you informed Victoria if I hear more.

  4. Years and years ago-- early 70s - DH and I were in Scotland near the railroad station.  We saw a beautiful black train on the tracks -- THE ROYAL TRAIN.  We asked the guard what gives?  About that time a Bentley drove up right past us, could have reached out to touch her. She was with a lady in waiting on the other side.  I do remember her complexion was radiant.  My DH said "She looks just like the stamps."

I think it will be a real shame if things go completely casual.  Because it is a never ending slippery slope.

Let's not require black tie, they can wear dark suits.  Then it becomes blazers and ties instead; then just blazers.  Forget blazers, just let men wear trousers and shirts with collars.  Then it slips to jeans and nice shirts, who cares if there is a collar?  Then nice shorts; nice dressy t-shirts.  Hey, why dress up - I'm on vacation.  My bathing suit is nice, and its expensive.  That baseball hat was from Pebble Beach - its classy.  The cabin is so far away, I don't want to go and change. It's my money, my vacation, so I'll wear whatever I like, and I don't care what anyone thinks anyways.

I am so effing tired of men (little boys) rebelling against the "rules" just because they can !   They are destroying a big part of what makes Silversea special, and are doing a great deal to reduce it to just another mass market mosh.  Please please grow up.  Respect rules.  Management  - please please ENFORCE the codes,  Guests - protest nicely when violations occur.  Everyone - let's act like ladies and gentlemen and we'll all enjoy it more.

We sailed from Copenhagen at 1:00 pm for Gdansk, Poland.

Back in the day on Silversea, I shopped from St. Petersburg all across the Baltic searching for a fine necklace of amber.  Found the perfect one I was looking for in a jewelry shop in Gdansk.

Thanks, ZQT. I should have know that.  Reading to quickly, I guess. Stay healthy.

You’ve been lucky to go as much as you have during this time.  Although we don’t have a voyage booked until 2024, it still saddens me to think it’ll have been four years since our last in 2020.

Me too Stumble.....last voyage was 2019 .....could be the last.  So sad.

Sorry! It was a hectic weekend and I forgot to drool over this properly. It does look delicious! What have you tried it on? I'm thinking it would be amazing on hot crispy fries.

Agree -- I'm planning on top of oven baked salmon steak.  Too much ???  Dip for artichokes?  And of course chicken.  Multitude of opportunities......

You are all making me very hungry for fish and chips! I will have to settle for burgers on the grill tonight, served with air-fried chips.

I was supposed to be off for the long weekend but unfortunately my coworker got covid so he's out until Tuesday. It's remarkable that it has been two years plus with this pandemic and this is the first time one of us has caught it. Since there is no alternative, I've been covering ICU all week and will continue until Tuesday morning. Hopefully he will be well and able to take over then. He's doing fine so we are fortunate there.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

JP you need Trader Joe's latest delicacy.

Today I sat next to a superwoman. She could talk, eat , swallow, breathe, and not stop

for the twenty five minutes we were near there. All stored in a large frame from a large well known city on the US east coast north of the Mason-Dixon Line.

Also this is the first time ever I saw the F& B manager remove dirty dishes in the Alantide.

Had HH cocktails with M&M’s to toast their anniversary.
At least one couple from sailing Carnival didn’t like it here because of the dress code so they are going back. Looks like there are a lot of those here. There must have been a fire sale on fares here.

    whatever it takes.....

Our local TJs was too hard to get to during the pandemic so we started going to Aldi instead. So the everything bagel seasoning is from there. Very interested in a report on the aioli though!

I have just discovered all the positives at Aldi -- the German chocolate !  the thin sliced seed bread - so fortunate I have both sources within one mile of each other.

I love listening to accents. And I always know that someone who speaks with a foreign accent and trips up on an occasional English word is still speaking their second language far better than I speak mine. Nothing but respect there.

Missed you @Camillus112! Nice to see you here again.

And just to stir the pot, I prefer aioli. 😉 It's Hellman's here (Best Foods, west of the Rockies). But the closest we get to aioli at home is grating some garlic into mayo.

Did an experiment tonight. Love sesame crusted ahi tuna but when I sear it in the pan the seeds fall off.

So I coated the ahi with some olive oil and sprinkled them with everything bagel mix. Then I put them in the air fryer for about 7 minutes.

The seeds didn't fall off because I never had to flip the fish. Sliced over greens with some couscous and a honey-mustard vinaigrette. Dinner took about 10 minutes. I could have cooked the fish a touch less.

jp  --You mention "everything but the bagel" indicating perhaps a Trader Joe's?   Was in there yesterday and they have a new product jar -- garlic aioli.  Looks great-- I'll get some and report.
