  1. DCThunder has offered good advice on 3 ports. Get familiar with the others. You can always hold off booking excursions until onboard, although some may sell out in advance. We found great differences between Caribbean ports and some European. Rome was a trip - it involved 2 trains and a bus from the port. We did it on our own but I’m not sure I would recommend it. Whereas Nassau or Cannes, for what it’s worth, are a short walk from the pier to the town. If possible, suggest an independent tour on your roll call and see if you get sufficient interest. It may cost less and you will see and do more in a van with 8 than a bus with 50. We did that for Florence and had the time of our lives.
  2. I have made MDR reservations for 6:00 PM on our upcoming Caribbean Princess cruise. It sounds like 6:00 PM may not be compatible with a 7:30 start time for a show. I have requested a 2 top each night and in the Palm, which is the aft MDR. We will probably order a glass of wine to start and won’t order dessert or linger over a cup of “coffee”. I’m a quick eater but Mrs BV doesn’t usually finish an entree and might not appear to be finished. Should I change the reservations to an earlier time?
  3. Excellent suggestion. Until I read this, I was planning Speedo and a crop top. 😆

    Welcome!

    Call me anything but “elderly”.
  5. I might be tempted by the 20% off liquor. I’ll have to check port prices first.
  6. I don’t qualify for a discount but I’m glad I checked this thread. It had not occurred to me that I could switch devices. I was a little bummed thinking I would have to choose between my phone and tablet. Thanks to those who mentioned switching and how easily and quickly it can be accomplished.
  7. I’m pretty sure it’s the turning off that many don’t remember. It sounds like the timer was all they needed.
  8. …….. get off the ship in Nassau. I get it. It’s close, it’s foreign, dock fees are probably low. But my first visit was enough. Been there 3 more times and didn’t bother the last time.
  9. I looked. It’s broken. I can no longer get to Cruise Personalizer. I sign in and the (continue) button is greyed out.
  10. I got an iOS update for the app today. I’m afraid to look.
  11. I like the idea that the Palm is quieter. I have booked all our dinners there, but one.
  12. I don’t know if I could find it again, but I googled “spring break” and found a website that tracks thousands of US schools’ spring break dates. I had the same concern, having booked a March 2 departure. It turns out not a single school was taking their break until March 10 at the earliest.
  13. It showed up yesterday @ 54 days out. 👍🏻
  14. I have climbed a lighthouse in the last year. No pain. No weakness.
  15. I had both knees replaced 3.5 and 4.5 years ago. A couple months after the first, I experienced pain and weakness. Doc did an endoscopic procedure and removed scar tissue that was interfering with the knee. Been fine ever since. Have been walking 5 miles a day since retirement 3 years ago.
  16. I didn’t fill that in and am green lane.
  17. Mine updated a couple days ago. I haven’t noticed any differences. But I’m not likely to unless something stops working.
  18. Thanks for your clear instructions. I found what I needed to alert Princess that I cannot be served dairy products. Of course, it remains to be seen what they do with this information.
  19. I had planned to work until 70. But then a hurricane destroyed my home, work became a nightmare, 2 deaths in the family, and I realized life could be over with little or no warning. Plan B - retire at 66 (as soon as my wife qualified for Medicare). I made the decision 8 months in advance, but didn’t tell my boss until about 2 months beforehand. We moved to a secure 55+ community where my father in law has lived for the last 22 years. He enjoys our company. I walk 5 miles a day. I play (a form of) golf twice a week, volunteer with meals on wheels, watch my wife play softball, paddle a kayak and dragon boat, garden and was elected Director/Treasurer for my 1200 home cooperative community. I’m as busy as I was when working. We spend a month in the NC mountains every summer. We spend a week with our grandkids at the beach every summer. We travel to see our kids and the things in Florida we never got around to seeing when work took up all my time. First post-retirement cruise coming up in March.
  20. Really no different from making free international calls via wifi from a hotel room. I’ve done that many times.
  21. Me 3. Actually, my wife would. I’m pretty sure I’ll still be able to find a drinkable beer under $15.
  22. A lot of FTL hotels near the port offer a shuttle. The current going rate is $15 pp. not sure about the Avid. We are staying at the Crowne Plaza in March and the IHG website lists a shuttle. I believe you must schedule it.
  23. I will get good value from the beverages. That makes Plus worthwhile for me. But dessert means nothing to me. In the best of all possible worlds, everything would be free. Next best would be a cafeteria plan that allows me to purchase extra fitness classes and not pay for the desserts.
  24. I would be willing trade my premium desserts with someone who doesn’t want their fitness classes. But I don’t imagine that could be arranged.
