I shop on price when it comes to cruises so I have been in just about every cabin type from interior to a 2 bed/2 bath Haven Villa with swipe card access to a private floor and pool with retractable roof on NCL (by calling NCL and offering them $900 to upsell myself).

Some people on this forum may even remember me from a few years ago when I took advantage of a "dropped digit" price error for 8 family members and we enjoyed 4 aft-facing full suites on the Emerald Princess for 12 nights at a total saving of more than $48,000 off the price at the time. My next Princess cruise was in an inside triple.

My preference is to at least have an oceanview cabin, but in January I'm sailing 11 nights to PNG in an inside cabin because the price was too good to resist. Any day on a ship is better than a day at work for me 😁, and I quite like my job.

Your dropped digit story often comes up in our house, we can only dream of such a thing.

  2. Honestly, my least favourite ship that I've been on. It just didn't have the atmosphere that I find on every other Princess ship. And the buffet was woeful, sure it was huge but it was the same 6 or so dishes repeated over and over (as as a buffet girl it does matter to me).

Is the sanctuary worth it? We will be on the Saphire on a b2b cruise in Australia in February.

I enjoy doing the sanctuary for an afternoon. They deliver afternoon tea to your lounger in the cost. There is also a small menu of other items that can be delivered for a small fee.

@Maple30 I'm on the same cruise with you, different tour provider and our guide is doing a picnic lunch for us.  Try asking your tour provider if they will be able to do the same for you.

and what a great tour this is going to be. Although, I'll probably still have a chocolate bar or two in my bag (you never can be too sure).

We sail on Sapphire 12 days out of Southampton this fall so I guess there will be a kettle. We sail Sapphire 33 days out of Melbourne next fall. Do they provide a kettle for the Australian itineraries?

Not for the Australian based cruises. Which is strange as us Aussies like a cuppa as much as our UK counterparts.

  6. I saw the Sun docked in Sydney last month. I was surprised how rusty she looked. When looking at her from the viewing deck at OPT you could see how badly the rails needed a new coat of varnish which seemed really strange as this is something that is usually done on an ongoing basis. She just looked like they've stopped caring.

  7. I'm the opposite. I love the Princess all inclusive photo package. Sure, the photos are somewhat corny and staged but they are great memories of my cruise. I love the port photos especially. As a solo traveller I've always come back with group photos with people I've met on the cruise, again, great for the memory book.

  8. I had troubles with buying OBC for my cruise on the Diamond, an Aussie cruise in Aussie dollars purchased on the Aussie website. Once on the ship they insisted I'd purchased US$ despite all my paperwork saying otherwise. The amount of OBC was less than I'd purchased. Couldn't get it fixed onboard but did get the difference credited to my next cruise once I got home. I learnt never to pre purchase on the Princess website, they just can't work out Aussie dollars. I hope yours is sorted but please don't let it put a dampener on your cruise. It will be fabulous and you will (at some stage) get your money sorted.

  9. I love them. I carry a couple of days worth of clothes in my hand luggage in one (twice now I've made flights that my luggage hasn't, being without at least one change of undies etc is not a risk I'm willing to take.). I flat pack the rest of my stuff in the others in my suitcase. I have more expensive Kathmandu ones but found the best (and most light weight) were about $8 from wish.

  10. I've been offered a "move over" before. If they contact you a second (or third) time you really do hold all the power when it comes to bargaining with them. I didn't take my offer due to work commitments but what was on offer when they were desperate near the end was pretty tempting.
